I can't stand third person after playing some hardcore servers and ACE mod for a while, checking round corners etc with third person just seems so cheap. I edited my FOV in the config and that makes 1st person perfectly viable, since the normal FOV is a little on the low side.

There are wellvisited First-Person-Only-Servers out there. They're crowded because there aren't many that do it. And as soon as a Server has 3rd enabled you can't not use it, because you've got a massive disadvantage. I wouldn't worry about using 3rd in general if it's enabled - still we need more 1st-Person-Servers.

We still need 3rd person servers. Not all people are as hardcore as some of you are. I'm fine with people using 3rd person.

I know narkoman14 and I understand you. And I believe there will be 3rd person in SA, so you probably don't need to worry^^.

 

But if it is stated multiple times, that DayZ is hardcore survival game, than it should be all the way. Counter strike is also hardcore game, that only has 1st person view. If you have ever play that game, than you can imagine how would it be, if there was 3rd person option. And still, thousands of people still play it every day.

It is also I believe, that people become lazy, because 3rd person was there at the beginning. If there was only 1st person, very few would care about it because of unknown. I had a patient that he was playing DayZ for only a day or two. After operation I gave him a lift. Now he is seeking a lift almost every day. And If can't give it, he is just not going to play that day.

 

TL;DR

 

People get used to luxury quite easy and leave or forget about it very hard.

If someone choose 3rd, that means it will be just as it is in mod. If you play on 3rd person view server, you can still press "enter" to go in 1st person view in situations you need to. On the other side, if you choose/vote for 1st person, that means we'll only have that one w/o ability to have 3rd person servers.

 

I am sorry for not putting that out more clearly. I hope I didn't confuse you all.

I cant decide which one to choose. I like third person, because I get more fps, plus its not making me dizzy after running for a while. On the other hand, I like first person for the feeling it provides. And more realistic aswell. So I wont vote (I dont want to hurt any of the persons feelings :p).

This, I play on 1st person hardcore servers, but only because I modified my config to increase my fov to 110.

If that poll is representative for the community its really weird how 80-90% of the dayz servers have 3rd person enabled...

 

My guess is that alot of players voting 1st person really doesnt mind playing on a 3rd person server because they either use 3rd sometimes or havent really thought about the huge advantage 3rd person players have over 1st.

We are running 4 servers and all of them have 3rd enabled, just because it pleases the playerbase. I personally don't like it and I'd enjoy it way more if there would be no possibility to even do that, as many other games don't have it and people don't mind. The reason they don't want it disabled alltogether all of a sudden is because they are used to abusing it.

I prefer to use both actually, most of the time I'm in third person, when I'm shooting or driving I prefer first (I just seam to do better in first for both).  I'll probably be playing a lot more in first when SA comes out (I'm a loot monkey)

Third person has no reason for existing, it does not provide any gameplay improvements while simultaneously providing exploits for players to use. It's understandable that people want an easy game, but starting pistols were removed as well.

First vs Third is the kind of poll we need though. Third person is objectively better than first person in all situations due to the ability to exploit it. People who join a third person server and play in first person are putting themselves at a disadvantage.

There is no 'both' because the ability to exploit one precludes any rational player from using the other.

There is talk of a new modified 3rd person view but it is early in debate so now is not the time for a poll including that.

Lets wait until  (if and when) some solid propositions are put forward.

Actually... I prefer first person. I use 3rd because not doing so leaves me at a huge disadvantage when dealing with those that use it. They can literally see me through low walls. It's not a preference, it is a "I have to." Their preference is that they "prefer" to be able to see over and around objects without exposing themselves, just like some people "prefer" to see through walls with wallhacks. I would "prefer" to get paid twice as much for half the work I do right now but my boss disagrees with that preference.

I think this poll is pretty telling so far. It's a common thread of humanity, something is wrong and the majority of people know it is, but it's easier to not pay any attention to the problem than deal with it. Of course, when that happens, people get ingrained in their ways; and then, when its finally time for change (thanks Dslyecxi!), a vocal minority arises.
