Dear community of Dayz,

 

I am strideynet and am 12 nearly 13, I have been lurking this game for some time and 1. would quite like to play. I 2. decided to consult my Dad as the Arma engine is 15 rated. He has told me that he would like to look into it. My teachers say I am mature and 3. my vocal pitch has never been complained about on Garrys Mod servers and other VOIP applications. Basically, 4. do you want my kind in your game and if so would you say this game is suitable (Not too gory).

dude a couple of months into playing this game with a good friend of mine, his 8 year old son started joining in with us. he was better at the game and more mature than most people we met at random

In terms of the on screen violence and any graphic scenes, I personally don't think you have anything to worry about. It's really no more gory than some cartoons these days. The ONLY thing that can be a bit of a concern is the attitude / language of some players you will meet. That said, it's pretty much the case with any online game. You will meet these kind of idiots. 

 

However, that can easily be avoided by joining a server with no side chat (my preference, this also helps with immersion), join a good clan and use their Teamspeak instead of the public ones.

If people didn't bother you about your voice on games like Garrys Mod, then you'll be fine. As long as you don't act like a "kid" then people will actually enjoy your presence I think :)

 

Even DevilDogGamer plays with kids who have somewhat squeaky voices and they get along fine, DDG is the kind of person I'd expect to be completely annoyed by that

I really would advise you to grab Arma2 Combined ops as there's so much more than just the DAYZ mod.

 

Its a superb military sim/game.

I will second Orlok's statement.  There is a lot of really great content to be had with ARMAII Combined Ops.  I wouldn't wait if I were you, it will likely be quite a while before the Stand Alone is completed (post-beta).

 

Pretty clear from your posts that you would make a capable and effective team mate.

 

Edit: As far as military/shooter/survival games go, this one is very tame.  There is a lot of intensity that can give me an adrenaline spike and leave my hands shaking for a minute, but that's just the immersion and attachment to my character when he gets in to a dangerous situation.

 

The only real issue here is unintelligent and immature people typing egregious things over side-chat.  This will vary widely depending on what servers you play on.  If other, immature players are your father's concern, there are servers that have side-chat disabled.

 

Edit #2:  It's refreshing to come across a young person as mature and well spoken as you.  Welcome addition to the community in my book.

Ah, the days of saying, "I am 12 but I am almost 13. I'm 12 and 3/4, actually!" Now, I'm almost to the point where I have to claim to be younger than I am.

 

Anyway, on-topic, hundreds other 12 year olds play this game, so why shouldn't you be able to? Just don't be one of those kids that follows a player nice enough to not shoot you on sight and constantly ask him for guns and gear and you won't be messed with.

Well To the appropriateness oft he game? If you've played CoD, Battlefield, or counterstrike you seen worse gore/violence then in dayZ. and if you've played them online probably heard worse things in chat then most servers on dayZ would allow when an admin is around.

 

you know all those games say "online interactions not rated by ESRB" for a reason. No one can rate that as it varies drasticly from one community to another. There are some very PG-13 clans that enforce a reasonable code of conduct. Then there are others where every other sentence someone is droppin' the F-Bomb. with "open-world" games/mods like this much of  the "content" is generated by who you meet, and those interactions.
