Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted August 16, 2013 I'd even go a step further: No Mic, no communication. In days where every laptop has a mic, there is software for mobilephones to communicate with games and stuff like that. Not having a Mic is like not having a Mouse. And if someone dos not have a mic installed, his character should randomly "talk" so people become aware of his position. Just to make sure people don't deactivate the mic for dayZ to talk just in TS/skype/.... And i'm totally against this because, if i had my way, most of you guys would not be allowed to speak ever:The guy who bought the cheapest microphone in the world. The guy who think that speakers and microphones are just fine and send a ton fo feedback. The "always on" mic user that refuse to put his computer in a quiet room and/or watch tv while playing. The mouth breathers. Those who are either loud or can't setup their recording levels at a reasonable volume.Bad integrated soundcard that leak noise back to input.100 mile long unshielded extension cords. Wayze 549 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) I like it. kind of :/ It's more like a traditional MMO system with "speech bubbles" I guess one issue I could see with it is that when moving around as a group you'd have to be constantly moving your view to see what peeps are saying whereas atm you can just chat as long as you're near enough. I'm not sure peeps would like it for basic communication because to hear people IRL you don't actually have to look at them to hear them, they just need to be near by. It's hard for me to sympathise really because I've always played with a mic so I'm just used to chatting to whoever I want without too much thought. If you moving around with a group it would be no problem. Like I said there could be something like a marker on the screen. So if someone is behind you, the text will pop up down the screen, you could read the text but you would have to turn around to know where it comes from.Chatting to whoever you want without much thought is working in DayZ Mod because you have simply nothing to lose. Run around with a DMR, who cares if you lose it? You can get another one in 30-60 mins. But, if you run around in Standalone with a M4 which took you days to find, and you know exactly this weapon is rare as hell, you would think twice about talking to someone without much thought. Standalone will change the core gameplay of DayZ, right know DayZ Mod is simply a deathmatch. Standalone however will go back to the roots and will be even harder than DayZ Mod when it came first out. There won't be a M4 in every building, like Dean said, weapons will be very, very rare. Ammo will be very, very rare. So that will bring a totally new kind of bandits, who will actually kill you because of you gear, which is not working in the mod simply because your gear is nothing worth. Nice idea, but that would imo cause a disadvantage for those who use headsets. If you would talk via mic, enemies around would probably hear it as well.. If you would write something and what you write would pop up as a text above your character and if your char is between tight woodeds or sorta, no one other than you and the one you mean to talk would know what you write. The texts that are written will be visible through the objects and environments ?Yes, I meant that the text would be visible through objects. Side chat being got away would make the game boring.. May I ask in how many servers you saw people constantly talk in side-chat? How often do you use it in personal? Just being curious..It is not really about the constant talk in side channel, it is the fact that side channel is breaking a core element of DayZ. Sure, you are used to it, probably you never played the real DayZ Mod like it was supposed to be, but I can tell you without side channel there was way more immersion. The worst thing about side chat is that people can team up and talk to another whenever they want. DayZ is not about social communication and teaming up, DayZ is about surviving in a world. So, if you can team up every moment you want, just by asking someone in side channel, you simply don't need to let anyone alife. However, if you play alone without side channel and see someone walking near you after 2 hours playing alone, you will maybe be greatful about the company. You ask him to team up and then you got a not scripted situation. If you ask someone in side channel "hey I am unarmend lets team up" you go find each other and team up. You won't kill each other because you have no gear anyway. But if the situation is not scripted like that, teams will be way more rare and most importantly, for you your team mate will be way more important. If he dies, and you did not give him you skype ID or something, he is dead for you. Probably you will never find him again and you will feel even sad about losing a companion. So, this is actually what dayz was always about. The fear of losing something. And I can tell you, losing a good person is sometimes even worse than losing all your gear. harley001 315 Posted August 16, 2013 Side chat being got away would make the game boring.. May I ask in how many servers you saw people constantly talk in side-chat? How often do you use it in personal? Just being curious..I tend to use it a lot. I edited the game a bit so i can type while moving. I find when I am on a long walk that will take me half a hour to get to my destination side chat is the only thing keeping me from shift tabbing into the steam web browser... Also I don't know why I find side chat tends to encourage friendly behavior. Maybe its just me. Also on a well admined server you tend not to get a lot of people using their mic in side. I guess a easy fix for this in standalone would be to just disable mics in side.

geogeorgegeo@hotmail.co.uk 50 Posted August 16, 2013 Aren't they going to implement radios with different frequencies anyway? This would a far more immersive way of communication in game.

One should not be penalised for not being in a situation where they are able to use one. Not everyone's life is similar. Laptops may be roughly equal, people are not. AP_Norris 1018 Posted August 16, 2013 voice is really important..it really saves your life in a lot of situations..some where you cannot trust a player enough to stop moving or putting your weapon down..push a button and explain yourself..I've been shot so many times typing things on side hat while trusting another player said they're friendly... LolThe mod was ruined before I got the chance to play the game without bandits being the norm.

harley001 315 Posted August 17, 2013 I hope its not true that side chat is being removed... Don't like it then play on a server without it. Is it that hard to find one?
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted August 17, 2013 It is true, to be 'replaced' by radios. which you will have to find, loot, and tune to the right frequency. They will be both VOIP and text chat.

Why do you feel the need having the opportunity to communicate with everyone on the world instantly in an apocalypse whenever desired? It makes the game somehow more immersive? rpatto92@hotmail.com 26 Posted August 17, 2013 I see what you're saying but just get a mic; the direct text chat isn't supposed to be a substitute for mic's. Plus DayZ is supposed to be a more authentic game, than traditional MMO's; they'll most likely have the direct text chat working via the radio system anyway, with text appearing on whatever communication device you have. You could use a "blablablabalba" kind of sound that plays every time you "talk bubbles" then again...is this a surviving simulator or a chat??? Damnit get a mike folks we live in the 21st century and they only cost as much as a pack of cigarattes and i bet you waste a lot more during a day even if you don't smoke. It would be funny if two guys were hiding from you behind a wall and you knew where they were by seeing the bubbles

So we would see bubbles everywhere. Someone would lay down as you try to aim to shoot someone else and he would then write something. A magical bubble would pop up and block your view so the enemy could flee. There could be dozens of such example made up easily considering the case is about bubbles that are visible no matter whats in front of it.. -Gews- 7443 Posted August 18, 2013 Communication is just so important in DayZ I honestly couldn't imagine playing it without a mic.It kinda makes you shoot everyone. Side chat being got away would make the game boring..When side chat is enabled I kinda hate it. When it's gone I kinda miss it. I hope they allow you to hide it in SA. Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted August 18, 2013 Side chat doesn't encourage to be in character. I do endorse bubbles over your head instead of a chat area.
