Nice to finally get some clearance, being in the dark for the last couple of weeks has crippled me.

We finally have a game developer with morals, values, and honor and what does the community do?

They cry and whine to get an unfinished buggy pre-alpha...

This is what happens when you give 12-year-old boys access to a keyboard.

"i wantz it nowz!"

"LOLZ, what is this buggy crapzorz!?!?"

take your time and do it right, Rocket.

Hello there

Don't forget  that when we do get out hands on the game it *may* be a "rough and unpolished" and *will* be an alpha not a final game.

Many changes will not be instantly noticeable as they are "behind the scenes". Just manage your expectations when the game is released and I'm sure we will love it.

I'm looking forward to the Alpha being publicly released but I'd rather the chaps take far longer and release a decent solid build rather than bend to "expectation" or whining and release something flawed.

But I have faith in R and the team to stick to their guns.

Dont listen to rumour (not even from me when I talk about the SA, I do so as a normal forum member) wait until R gives the thumbs up before you believe any release date.

Rgds

It's supposed to be shit now, not when it's released.

Not sure how many times Dean needs to say it but the fact is it's not ready to be released.  It needs to be secure and stable, when it is it will be released.  Until then there's no harm using their other resources to add content etc.

@Victus Mortuus They can't even understand that simple fact! Every single "clever" guy is saying to kids that they shouldn't cry while saying the Alpha is going to be perfect haha I mean how stupid is that? The Alpha stage is unstable and full of problems! If they can't understand that one they shouldn't criticise other people for their justified lack of anticipation because they are just as (if not more) immature.

Yea, and that's why it's not released yet.  As Rocket has said time and time again they aren't going to release the Alpha till it has a bare minimum level of functionality.  There is no point in releasing it in pre-alpha if the core functions are still unstable or needing to be replaced/changed in the first place.  It's like asking someone to review a piece of writing when you haven't finished the rough draft yet, no point in it.  He want's the final core functionality that will be in the final game to be finished and ready for mass testing before that testing takes place.  Otherwise there will be swarms of people bitching about how they can't run the game because of a certain bug and how core functions keep getting changed and they liked the original old system more.

I think a perfect example of this is the weapons system.  If he gave everyone access to the pre-alpha a month ago and then removed all the weapons that everyone had could you imagine how much shit would have hit the fan?

Everyone else, rather than sit around doing nothing, are continuing on the backlog of features. Things like DX11 and features from ArmA3 are reviewed to see if they can be ported across to DayZ.

DX11 for dayz? Sounds pornographic.

Actually, that's a good point and something that hadn't crossed my mind.  Can you imagine the tears if they had to wipe the database, Jesus Christ it doesn't bare thinking about.

i think you misunderstood my post.

  • I know its pre alpha
  • You know its pre alpha
  • Whining 12-year-olds don't won't care if its pre-alpha;

They will cry for it the loudest then bash it anyway and then say "they shouldn't have released it so early."

Yea, so until everything that's bare minimum is finished and ready for mass testing there isn't any reason to even try testing.  Now imagine that this happened for each major component of the game, weapons, clothing, vehicles ( thankfully they are leaving these out till they are completely reworked).  Each and every time there would be a major outcry from every person that doesn't understand the development process.

How quickly we forget.  Am I the only one around here who remembers how cheats almost killed the mod?  And the mod, for the most part, was in a functional and playable state.

In fact, I'm surprised so few people have mentioned the "Client Bubble".  This is so great, a huge blow to script-kiddies who were planning to use ESP or Aimbot.  I don't care how long it takes, I want those kiddies to rage so hard they foam at the mouth.  Well worth an extra month or two if you ask me.

Yeah, hackers did ruin the mod. Hopefully at least they can resolve some of the more insane stuff, but I wouldn't count on the elimination of all hacks. Once the client is untrusted, it's still reasonable to expect people to develop ESP and even aimbot. You just won't be turned into a goat or teleported to a thunderdome in the middle of the game.

Scripting literally won't be possible and that's the "hacking" that caused the most issues and nearly killed the mod at one point.  I'd still expect to see some of the usual hacks we see in other games (Aimbot's etc) but measures are being taken to try to limit that too.

The "client bubble" thing sounds interesting, I won't pretend I understand it though :/

I simply assumed that it referred to the idea that the server wouldn't accept any unusual commands from the client. For example, teleportation or spawning in items.

Thats part of the new server structure but thats not what he's talking about regarding the client bubble,

The basic system is that all information sent from the server to the client is currently sent to all clients, even if they are opposite ends of the map, not only is that a waste in terms of data being sent but that info could also be used by hacked clients for esp cheats.

Say for example someone accesses a tent in Skalka, the client sends a request to the server and the server responds, that response from the server will also be received by all other clients on the server which means someone with esp could detect this action from Skalisky..

The client bubble as i understand it basically means that the client will only receive info from within a certain area around them, maybe 1.5-2km radius at a guess, drastically reducing the amount of info that esp hacks can see in one go.

Its not an end to esp by any means but it will certainly help.

Actually, if that's the case, it'll not only reduce server load (Or at least the required bandwidth of the server), but also improve some preformance and reduce lag, on top of inhibiting hackers. Hope I can still snipe across the fields though. A 2km kill is not unrealisic for some people.
