I was hoping we get to do things like drag dead bodies around and make piles like the one near Cherno , as long as they are a bit more persistent, i don't want to have to make a new pile every restart. But yes...atmosphere, atmosphere, atmosphere. No need to overdo it of course either, it's a fine line.

I've never heard a dev say there will be no choppers. In fact when I asked Matt directly about it during a Q&A he said they were considering using the TOH flight mechanics for added complexity/realism.

and again... like rocket said 1000 times before, its the dayz engine! not the arma 2 engine, not the take on helicopters engine or the arma 3 engine!

If they make them a REAL challenge to fly then I'm all for it, however a Dayz game without helicopters just doesn't feel right.

What makes you say that?

I think there's always going to be some confusion when discussing what we can expect from the initial alpha release (limited content) and what the plans are for the finished product. A good example is cars. For the initial release they may just port in the cars/mechanics we all know and love/hate, they've also discussed leaving them out all together. Further down the line they will be removing those and giving them a complete overhaul to allow for customisation, damage of separate body parts and so on to better suit DayZ.

Will there be helicopters?

Again, all that stuff comes after. The first thing we want you to be able to do is run around, find a weapon, find some gear, craft some stuff etc. Basically the idea of the Dayzmod when I first had the idea, all the stuff I thought was important in a survival gear. From there we will follow the Minecraft approach and pump out weekly updates that add new weapons, LOS only radios, battery usage etc. I think that point is really important and I need to manage peoples expectations.

your assuming the game will flurish and do well. what if it struggles. so for now the basic amount needed to sell the game will be added. they will sell the game even if heli are added or not at moment if the want to continue to selling and it is popular then it maybe worth investing more time and effort for rewards. all about the dollar at end of day.

I'm not assuming anything, I have no idea the if the game will do well or not although of course I hope it does. BIS have promised to develop the SA for many months after release (12 months I think) and they have a good track record of supporting/developing their games for long periods after the initial release. That's why many Arma fans hold them in high regard as a developer and have done for over a decade. They've yet to just release a game and drop it due to poor sales.

Yep Bohemia supported Arma 2 very much to the release of Arma 3 Alpha. Anyone remember when Bohemia fixed warping in multiplayer? That happened in 1.55 if I remember correct and without that multiplayer was pretty much broken. You really couldn't play DayZ without that patch.

That doesn't speak well for Bohemia's track record :(

They patched Arma 2 to support the multiplayer aspect of DayZ. As far as Arma 2 was concerned there were no issues and multiplayer was always the main reason people played it.

They've done this in the past too in order to support other popular free mods and their specific requirements.

I see, then. His post made it sound like a preexisting issue before DayZ.

There was the introduction of interpolation around the time PR became popular, warping issues were identified by the large amounts of PvP players new to the community and not long after BIS had a solution, wasn't really a problem before then as most the online communities were tactical/coop based.

I don't think so, I was probably called Capt. Frag or basically anything with Frag in it :P(long story). If you could find a well organised server (and manage to enter it when a position came up) it was honestly one of the best mil-sim experiences you could ever have.

The fact that BIS patched Arma 2 to support it (as well as other mods) is one of the reasons their core mil-sim fans hold them in such high regard. It's a shame that being a responsible developer for over a decade isn't enough to prove to many people that they're not in it purely for the money. Of course they need to make money as a business but history shows that it is not their sole focus, they've always been passionate developers.

Hope it doesn't end up looking all bright and shiny like ArmA 3.

Needs a more dark theme to it. Cloudy skies often, rain, fog, etc.

So does anyone really know how this vicinity thing will work with the item pickup system? to me it seems to counteract the idea of having to search around and individually pick up and find cans, I was looking forward to really having to spend that extra bit of time searching and storing things, also makes it more interesting timing engagements with other players knowing they've just entered a fresh building and will be a little longer than it took to search in the mod. I get that it works off of LoS, and also if its only like a 1ft radius that comes up in the vicinity box, I guess that makes sense if you had say, 2 clips and a gun stored on top of eachother, for sorting out said piles sake. However if its like, a 5-6 ft radius, it seems to take away from the initial idea of spreading the loot around. Thats my 2 cents anyway.

The new volumetric clouds do honestly look awesome so far and really step-up the feel of the envoiroment. I'd love to see more weather variation though and foggy/misty nights would be amazing.

Regarding the vicinity part of the inventory I share your concerns, apparently only items that you have a direct line of site to will show in that part of the inventory so hopefully it doesn't negate completely having to scavenge/search an area properly.

If you can just stand in an area and use that part of the inventory to search it basically seems to undo all of the work they've put into changing the way loot spawns.

Stormy weather is looking really good, in fact, excellent imho.

Do we get more violent storms with thicker rain and wind? Or is it still in heavy development.
