Dayz for Laptops

Can a Laptop run DayZ perfectly? Or is a desktop computer the only way to run DayZ without any lag?

I play it on a Lenovo Y560 ... a low end gaming rig (still waiting for my Alienware one to arrive). So yes it is possible ... the trick is to find a laptop with a dedicated graphics card and not one that uses shared memory.

Obviously a PC is preferred to most, good luck.

I wouldn't recommend it. You pay roughly double the money for the same specs that you'd get in a desktop, they're prone to overheating and you pretty much have to buy an entire new machine when you want to upgrade one or two components.

In general, Mobile Graphics are weaker than the regular Versions. The strongest Cards therefor are not avaliable for notebooks (too big, too much power needed).

I'd say the best notebook graphics are comparable to good pc cards. So if you have a laptop that is strong enough, it is playable, but If you consider buying a computer just or mainly for gaming, always go for the real thing. If you want to go as cheap as possible, forget gaming on laptops.

I play on a Laptop as well, I get about 30-40 FPS, I'm happy with what I can get, not to mention I only have 4 GB Ram .. :P

Toshiba Satellite Pro seems to do the trick for me, no issues whatsoever. But I'm thinking of saving up for a decent game friendly pc.

I absolutely hate how much CPU this mod needs... My laptop has an i7 running 2.4-3.3 GHz (mostly at all cores 3.1) and still there's awful CPU lag in cities.

Just be sure to buy a laptop with i5 or i7, I have an i3 my laptop is using almost all the CPU when playing.

Similar experience. Asus laptop, 8Gb RAM, i5 2.4Ghz, GeForce GT540M. 14 FPS @ 1280x720 in the countryside. Down to 9 FPS in the cities. The game looks like crap at that resolution, so I'm not willing to go any lower. Definitely a huge disadvantage when trying to spot & shoot players/zombies. I try to avoid PvP whenever possible, unless I see them first and they remain stationary.

The frustrating thing is that the monitoring software shows my CPU at about 75% and the GPU at about 60%. I wish the game would use all the resources available to it.

CPU: i3-3110m @ 2.4Ghz (Dualcore Multithread) Quadcore

RAM: 8gb DDR3-1633Mhz

GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT 635m @ 4gb DDR3-1800Mhz (2gb shared, 2gb dedicated)

Interface Resolution: 1600x900

3D Resolution: 150%

FPS: 40 (city) - 50 (open country)

I figured out if you set everything to low and off, and then change the 3D resolution to 125-200% it looks amazing (compared to before) and uses nowhere near what it uses with AA and PPE.

Its really difficult to find a spot where you are happy with looks vs performance, when you dont have a super rig to run all on max XD

But i found that AA, PPE and Object Detail is what sucks the life out of the CPU and GPU, everything else didnt have a big impact on performance, so i think thoose would be the ones to get performance on.

But try setting 3D resolution higher then Interface Resolution, it might give you more FPS and still look good, even though all other settings are on "ive got a crap rig" ;)

Currently playing with a laptop too. I get a nice 40 FPS with medium settings on, but my FPS goes to shit when I look at those thick, orange trees. :P

My advice: avoid laptops at all costs if you're a gamer. They're expensive and tend to overheat a lot.

I've a MSI GE70. I play on mostly high with 30-40FPS, occasionally dips below 30 but not often and not much below 30. Sometimes get higher than 40 but usually in that range. Only problem is yea it can get hot if I use intel turboboost but never gets hot if I disable it. And of course I'm at a bit of a disadvantage using only a 17' screen but if there are reasons why a laptop is your only option, you can have a great time playing DayZ.

As others have said, make sure it has a dedicated GPU (I prefer nvidia). Get a good temperature monitoring program and use it. Lastly, check out this thread http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/28160-how-to-set-up-your-graphics-properly/ for best performance.

Yes a Laptop can run it, my friend has a crappy laptop and somehow managed to run it, I have no idea how. Just don't go with an alien ware. your paying for an overpriced dell if you go with one of those (you get crap specs for twice the price)

It depends on your laptops specs. If you do get a laptop then try to get one with an i5 core processor or higher because when you run into cities, even if you have a super beasty processor, your GPU just fries.

Anyway, I would recommend a desktop PC overall, I don't think ARMA II is the type of game you should be running on a notepad.
