EA...for example...you do the casual stuff they want or your studio will be closed...speaking of Saboteur for example which was an awsome game...studio was closed directly after release...

but it allows us the ability to continue each week to release content updates with new weapons and items.

it this going to be free or charged content ?

hoping this doesnt become a buy blahblah weapon each week or magic shoes for 2 quid. alo of devs are doing this at moment and it is annoying.

great blog but please dont rape us with dlc or extras in costs.

Yeah, every weekly update is 5 dollars, along with the monthly fee of 35 dollars. My sources are 300% legit.

All this NPC/Quest talk that's been going on....

Do people forget that's why they make mods. Leave Rocket to do the game he wants, and when SA supports modding anyone can make it different.

Based on my early warnings taken without heed, I wish to say in advance "I told you so".

i will try to give you a serious answer by responding to a previous post you made

Best case scenario, you have continuous 100% player cooperation, and everything works as expected. (putting your emotions aside for a minute, when have you ever seen this happen continuously in any online game?)

Worse case scenario, players do not work together and the entire 'experiment' is an epic failure.

to me this says that you do not fully understand what, in my eyes, makes dayz special, your viewpoint is so limited.

you are defining success on the basis of cooperation, in theory this sounds warm and fuzzy, but it ignores reality, human beings are unpredictable, irrational, and dangerous, it does not matter what you do to constrain people it will never change that fact.

so while i am a person who loves to cooperate, it is the fact that dayz exposes people for what they really are that makes this game thrilling, the fact that you dont know if the person you run into is going to be a complete lunatic or just another friendly person. with AI/NPC everything is completely predictable, there is no reason to fear, there is no confusion, everything is set in stone. there are so many games that offer only this, or only limited scope for human interactions on set paths limited by the developers views.

there is nothing one can do with AI/NPC that would make me see them as anything other than window dressing, moving scenery.

even if you never kill or act agressively towards another player dayz is defined by PvP, it is all about PvP, it is 100% pure PvP, and if you cant see that you are missing something.

if dayz fails in the future i doubt it will be because of a lack of a endgame or missions or npc action, it will be because of human nature (ignoring dealing with cheating for a moment).

for me dayz is the experiences i have now, and not some mythical end game i am working towards.

I'm confused as to why no one seems excited about the limited testing beginning. Does this not mean we can expect more videos soon and a wider release soon? Why the hell is everyone arguing about endgame hypotheticals?

Because everyone agrees that the limited testing is awesome, and disagreeing is way more fun.

What's sad about this statement is that it's sarcastic yet true, yet still sarcastic. Well written.

And as for the rest of you, shut up. Thanks!

I can not see a sooner release just because of a first limited test....they are testing mainly the new server client structure and the new inventory system...still along long way to go ...we should keep in mind that they are doing all weapons and all anims etc from the scratch....good news though :)

Yeah, although it is a good step seeing as Rocket did not know when this testing would start last week. At least the pace of work is encouraging.

I would think that inventory works regardless of the amount of players, animations as well; from what rocket wrote on reddit, it seems the issues are:

Honestly, I don't have a gut feeling. All I need is for loot spawning to be sorted, for zombies to be sorted, and the server-client architecture. Each of them, on their own, appear to be "nearly any day now".

But getting all three working at once, I just don't have a gut feeling with it. And I don't want too, I want to take the time to do them right. If those three aren't right, it's all fucked.

So these could be sorted in 3-6 weeks?

I don't really care if we initially have 15 or 30 weapons etc, those will get into the game in time...

Rocket's leaving in 40 days for Everest , 6 weeks is 36 days so hopefully yeah, around the end of March/beginning of April.

This is kind of cool, they mentioned DayZ. Nothing crazy, but describe what kind of FPS the game will be.

http://kotaku.com/5984648/everything-i-know-about-bungies-next-first+person-shooter-destiny

A "Shared World Shooter," Not An MMO

Bungie's engineering lead, Chris Butcher, immediately debunked the MMO theory when he took the stage on Wednesday afternoon to tell us about all the new technology used in the game. In fact, it's so far from an MMO, he implied, that they've coined a new term for this game. You can call it "the world's first shared world shooter," to the crying protest of games like DayZ.

I'm thinking they will try to get the standalone out before PAX East so Rocket has something to show during PAX.

Here is my reasoning: Rocket has said he will be attending PAX East and has asked what he should do there. He implied a release before his trip to everest.

PAX East is in late March (March 22-24) and his Everest trip is in April.

NPCs ? If I was to spot a NPC I would kill it straight away and loot it's corpse. Or another player would do it before anyone could even have access to the quest menu lol. Pretty useless stuff IMO.

They'll be bullet proof and they'll stand in one place all day long handing out the same quest to every person that comes by. Super awesome!

thx m8...but where to post about a new map planned for the SA later on ;) I am looking for people willing to team up...(finished the heightmap today)

Haven't seen a thread like that around here. There's bits and pieces spread out in other unrelated threads though. BIforums is your best bet but I have a feeling you've been there (ssshhhh, don't mention DayZ to those guys). :) The SA might not support community made maps for quite a while.

but it allows us the ability to continue each week to release content updates with new weapons and items.

it this going to be free or charged content ?

Free, unless rocket gets kidnapped by EA.

Pssssh, as if Rocket would be lured into a big gaming company by the promise of naked woman snorting coke off his chest while swimming in a collection of dc shoes on top of a resort, in tibet..with nekkid sheep serving pretzels and the beer of the gods.

All of the above happen to be on my bucket list. Chocolate covered pretzels though.
