Spawn in random buildings/houses around the map

Recommended Posts

One of the things that completely ruins the disorientation when spawning is the ocean. You always know that when you spawn the ocean is south and from there you can always figure out your bearings.

Wouldn't it be better if that you spawned in completely random buildings around the map? Say you wake up in a hospital room, wearing nothing but a hospital gown. Or wake up in a prison cell wearing a inmate jumpsuit. Or wake up in a fire station wearing "firefighter" related clothing. Even waking up in military barracks wearing fatigues. The possibilities are endless of where people could spawn; why limit it to the south coast on the shoreline wearing generic clothing?

Not only would this add to the immersion of the game but also would increase disorientation for even the most seasoned survivors. You could potentially wake up in the middle of nowhere with no visible landmarks around, no compass, no map. Could you tell the difference between Guglovo and Pulkovo?

No man. I watched 28 days later and people end up seeing your penis that way.

Yes.....

Spent alot of time in Guglovo in the last few months....

Infact... spend enough time playing this ( or wasteland etc ) and eventually you end up like some of the more seasoned players i have met...

They know the playable area so well they dont need maps anymore

Assuming that dayz standalone will continue to say what town you are closest to, then people could just use an online map.

Still it will take more time before you get your bearings... Also no "pop-up" sign what is telling you where you spawned would benefit this imo

Honestly, I hope they'll remove the text that shows where you spawn. You'll need to recognize stuff that you see around you to figure out where you are. Simple!

I think you have a point there voddler, but theres r some towns/cities that look exactly the same. personally i have no problem getting my bearings, im quite the navigator, but then there are other people who dont know whether theyre in cherno or elektro

There's a big difference between Cherno and Elektro. Cherno is more of an industrial city with tons of industrial buildings. Also, there are roadsigns in outside of every city.

That was for the sake of argument, I didn't meant it as a way of saying "If you have two small cities, and you aren't sure which you are in, it is going to be hard to get your bearings."

Currently the idea is that you washed up on the shore. Spawning in a random building with no idea how you got there or why you have nothing with you would be a bit strange.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic but waking up on a shore with no idea how you got there and with nothing is a bit strange.

I like the idea of spawning in different places and being dressed accordingly.

It would be cool if it wasn't in buildings specifically, but maybe spawning near a crashed car in civilian clothing, or spawning near a ruined boat in...whatever sailors wear now.

Isnt that like, one of the biggest cliche's of all time?

The magic of an amnesia story line :D, I would like to see different spawns.

I really like this idea! If they are adding in a bunch of different ways to customize your player's gear they could use this mechanic as the way to have a lot of different options floating around out there. I think they should limit starting customization to face and hair/facial hair then let you find other things to look the way you want instead of just granting you this look as you spawn. Since you have amnesia and have no idea where you are or how you got there it would also work having the server randomly decide those two things for you. It would also make it so there are way too many spots to camp with your sniper rifle in an attempt to kill someone who just spawned into the game. Been on a couple servers where bigger bandit clans just drive up and down the beach looking for fresh spawns to run down and would love to see this implemented just to lower the ability to grief new players.

I like this idea more then the idea of spawning in random houses, and I think it's better to let the most spawns at the coast. Maybe on the rode from Kamenka to Balota, just near a crashed car next to the street. Would be much cooler then just spawn at the coast.

I like this idea, because the routine of spawning on the shore, then going to elektro/cherno gets old after a while.

Not for me as I had this experience at least once a week during the mid 1990s..

I think the idea of Respawning on the coast is too ingrained into the DayZ experience now. It is a DayZ institution - you spawn on the beach without a clue where you are (get rid of the pop up locater as well).

I think Rocket said it in a recent interview - his idea is that you spawn and inland is the great unknown, a lure.

Good idea. I really like to be disorientated and have to figure out where I am. Especially if you travel at night time it will make it quite difficult. It might also reduce the player clutter at Cherno and Electro. Most people that spawn with a new character (I assume) will first travel to Cherno or Electro as it has a lot of loot and is relatively close by and many stay there. And as for the town name signs, they are easily covered with a bigger object so that you can't read the town names anymore.

Scenario.

You spawn.

A guy is looting the building/house you just spawned in.

Killed.

Perhaps after a first spawn on the beach, you could Spawn in one of the many forests?

that would confuse most of the players. All spawns around the edge of a map.

After a while though, once you have memorised the map, Spawns won't matter at all.

I'd love to see a jigsaw Chernarus which changes every server restart, NWAF becomes SEAF. It would keep the game fresh. Military bases change location, Woods and forests would be lines or boundaries of the jigsaw.
