What if we removed the crosshair?

Recommended Posts

Remove it.

The chance of getting rid of esp is way to great to risk vs helping noobs.

It is likely that the people that play dayz standalone are already familiar with basic dayz mechanics, or even other shooters. Its nothing the community can't handle, nobody will "not play the game" because there is no crosshairs, and most players will prefer it as it shows true accuracy and precision rather then putting a dot on somebody....I mean, its essentially a blindfire.

The chance to get rid of esp, which i might mention is the HARDEST (as far as i know) hack to detect. Not only that, but in a game like dayz it is also the best hack, second to god mode. So i say, remove that ho :P

I'm gonna be honest.

I could live without it, but tbh, i really think this is gonna make new players go dumb by screaming.

Let this be a option that the server can choose.

Rocket, people are anyway going to put a sticker in the middle of the screen. Some atleast. It will be a cheat no cheat-detector can see.

(provided that rocket does not change his work schedule)

Then they should ruin their monitors if they want to.

If new players never ever had contact with crosshairs in game they will never miss them at any time. For vets having any visual obstacle removed should be great thing, finally you can see a lot more of the game.

Ruin a monitor by putting a Hello Kitty sticker on the screen?

lol.

Leave it up to the servers.

I like how it is now; people who don't like them play on servers without them. People who do play on servers with them.

That's a cop out , and an argument for putting anything and everything in the game .

Personally , I don't give a rat's tossbag about noobs or people learning the game . If they can't handle the learning curve , go elsewhere , it's not that tough to work out .

Put in a bit of forced aiming deadzone, similar to Red Orchestra 2, so the gun is rarely in the center of the screen. Also a way to make the .50 cal snipers less devastating in close quarters.

I support this idea because:

Many people don't hipfire and usually this is done in panic situations when using ironsight takes too much time.

Even when hipfiring, merely watching where your rounds go and correcting your aim should do the trick

In my whole Dayz experience I never really hipfired anyways so I full support this!

Giving players a choice is hardly a cop-out, and it's a solution that at least doesn't completely disregard either side of the argument.

Whether or not crosshairs exist does not change the core feel of the game, and in my opinion that is the (somewhat flexible) line for what should be implemented.

Hipfire is a legitimate tactic when im turning a corner and get surprised by some dude who is just as surprised as I am. And we both open up on each other, the cross hair makes this currently to easy and viable. I'm all for it it. They're already kind of wonky anyways.

Make it an option.

I think if someone has a good enough computer and figured out how to install DayZ then they have some Gaming/FPS experience and no cross hairs shouldn't be too bad.

The only issue i may have is melee weapons, melee weapons are kinda difficult to use without a crosshair. Tried myself and since im a man of the hatchet i prefer regular servers so it's easier to hit the zombies. For guns i always doubble click the aim button to go into ironsight/scope anyways.

Although if the melee system is significantly improved in the Standalone i may personally may lean more towards having it off, but i prefer having the option.

But why remove it? Give the players a chance to choose what they want themselves i say.

Melee does well without crosshairs. You get a feeling for the point of impact with some practice. You also will be close range anyway.

I like more realism and difficulty through it. But I want the bullet going exactly where the barrel is pointing! In real life you can aim pretty well from the hip with some practice. Good enough at least to be serious threat to everything in close range.

I say remove it.

Its worked in so many other games before so i cant see how this can ruin DayZ at all. As Rocket said, the CH is not centered anyway, its all over the place so might aswell remove it and force people to learn the mechanics, insted of relying on a CH.

It would also make hip firing alot more interesting, as one would need skill to hit like that. Nobody needs skills to hit with a CH.

And i dont think new people will have a harder time, except for the melee weapons, they are abit tricky, but hey, thats what a learning curve if for.

The fact that it might have a serious impact on ESP, is enough for me to say remove it straight away. End of discussion hehe.

Anticheat can only be prioritised higher then a CH hehe.

We dont want it all handed to us hehe.

Still no reason to remove it, servers that want to have it off can do so while others do as they wish, if you keep removing functions you loose player base as well, im not saying you want 9 year olds to play on servers with ponies and flowerhrowers (yes pyro TF2 reference) But im saying that giving the players a choice on the matter will have you better feedback. Look at BF 3, there is no way in hell i will play on normal servers, if my friends want me to play on normal servers i refuse, simply because i think those servers give little challenge when you can see someone at the other side of the map by pressing "Q" where ever you go, regardless of my opinion on the matter the servers excist, i hate them, i avoid them, problem solved.

Having the crosshairs there doesn't really DO anything. They're terribly inaccurate at any rate. The only time you even use the crosshairs is if you're spraying (not accurate anyhow), or if you're using the .50 cal sniper rifles at close range.

So for both of those types of players, f- em. Learn to aim properly.

Either way, shooting with the crosshairs is really terrible for accurate fire. It's better that these people learn to use iron sights early on. They'll get better that way. Don't believe me? Try to headshot a zombie at close range with the crosshairs. Impossible.

If you use 3P you will have a slight misallignment, 1P virtually none you just have to watch that you don't point your muzzle into a wall while your head is above it and shoot. The best way to let them learn is not to give them the option for crosshairs or any kind of help that makes the game a walk in the park or they will always use the easy way just like every other exploit one can abuse. If you can't hit a zombie with crosshairs at close range i would visit an eye specialist. ;) Even i can hit them in 3P no crosshairs without aiming, "hip firing" with the camera "aiming" alongside the barrel of my gun because i always had to carry the scoped rifles.

For me personally i would say remove it even though for some people it would feel werid or they dont like it because it would be harder or just dont like the idea in general i would say remove it if makes the game hard thats fine with me i like dayz for it being hard and balance of dayz loving you then suddenly kicking you in the balls while your looting but on the con side there will be alot of people who would hate if it got removed or got into a server side option so i guess it would have to be voted out by the entire dayz community

Even though I almost always use iron sights, sometimes (quite a lot of times really) when tackling groups of infected, it's handy to be able to have the option of firing from the hip. Removing it might make some encounters unnecessarily difficult.

In my experience, most murders happen when you are looking at your map, fiddling with inventory, gutting an animal...basically any time you are completely vulnerable and the cowardly fucks can kill you without fear of retaliation.

I like the idea because it would have a less competitive fps feel and more gritty survial game feel. You could sorta tell i think if someone is hostile if there aiming at you down there sights because they wouldn't risk unaimed fireing at you with no corsshairs. They would want a accruate kill shot as they would get by aiming down the sights.
