whatup2003 67 Posted January 4, 2013 Nice to see Rocket is back on track. He doesn't need to right a long post every time either. Just drop a line every now and then to keep everyone assured.
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted January 4, 2013 Agreed, it doesn't need to be a grand affair each time, just a quick heads up will do. Now they're back at work (well nearly) I think we can expect more frequent news.
Rick bon Dock 5 Posted January 4, 2013 If people would stop buying Arma 2 then we might already have the SA =p. There has been over 50,000 new players to DayZ in a little less than 2 weeks. The SA is definately not coming out with those sales still coming in, it would be stupid on their part.

Once DayZ SA goes live, there will be much more sales than that.

englisharcher 0 Posted January 4, 2013 I have a doubt, is dean hall a indie developer or not? He's stil an indie developer. as of yet he isn't an employee of BIS but merely being backed by a studio to create a game.
Vincenzo (DayZ) 97 Posted January 4, 2013 I bet sunday or monday it will be released.I just know it. (ending of arma sales)

zombie123 (DayZ) 18 Posted January 4, 2013 It's possible, but He just arrived on Prague, He and all dev team are going to work maybe a week or two to prepare the release date! But, like I always says, It's possible that He has the complete game since He've left New Zeland!
Mos1ey 6301 Posted January 4, 2013 I think he was back in NZ for the holidays, lol. This isn't his first time in the Czech Republic. xDAFAIK the game isn't ready for release yet, as nice as that would be. We're all just gonna have to be patient and rest assured that the extra time in development will leave us with a better end product. :)
zombie123 (DayZ) 18 Posted January 4, 2013 I meant that, but I don't know if He worked on New Zeland...
Teo3201 6 Posted January 4, 2013 Ok, i just want to make a simple point clear to a few of the people here. (The readers, not the other posters) Now that the release is closing in, i would just like to say that the first version to be released might still be pretty buggy. It has come to my understanding that some of the people here think that the game will be released as a brand new game with new features and better gameplay, but this is not necessarily the case. The first version will be an alpha, maybe even a pre-alpha. This means that most of the features rocket has previously mentioned (like (underground) bases), will NOT be included in the game at release. These will come later.I simply say this because i am afraid that some people at release will rage because of lack of new content, and maybe even create a bad reputation for the game. The only things we can expect at release are these things:- New inventory system (guaranteed).- Major bugs from DayZ mod fixed.- Some new areas (Chernarus+) and maybe terrain(?).- Mostly similar gameplay to the mod. Please understand that what we are getting an release in an alpha version.DO NOT EXPECT MANY NEW FEATURES. DO NOT THINK IT WILL BE 100% POLISHED.It WILL be buggy.
Diggydug (DayZ) 331 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) If people expect this miraculous new game from the standalone then they're lying to themselves.EDIT: Lol as soon as I re-read that I saw how negative it seems.I'm saying that the standalone is just the beginning of DayZ's road to optimization and new content, something it can't really do while remaining a mod. It'll be great, definitely, but not this mass revamp some people seem to anticipate. Edited January 4, 2013 by Diggydug
dallas 5195 Posted January 5, 2013 He's stil an indie developer. as of yet he isn't an employee of BIS but merely being backed by a studio to create a game.He was under contract working on ArmA 3, working on DayZ in his spare time. When DayZ went viral, ArmA 2 started selling like crazy, BI allowed him to work on DayZ full time. In August be BI and Rocket tied the knot and began working on the Standalone together, with him lead.
Menny 116 Posted January 5, 2013 I wonder what the relation between the release of DayZ SA and ArmA3 is. They can't release them close to eachother, can they? A big part of the DayZ community is also part of the ArmA community and vice versa, so they would practically be competing with themselves.
rainf 76 Posted January 5, 2013 Well in any case SA will sate many of us while we wait for a3. I have quite high hopes for Dayz in any case.
dallas 5195 Posted January 5, 2013 Two different products, engine versions and audiences. While DayZ is locked down, ArmA 3 will still be open and easily accessible for user content. While I'm sure many are interested in both, DayZ will continue down the survival route and ArmA 3 will focus on moddable milsim. ArmA 3 will be the next generation of the RV engine, DayZ will be an upgrate based on ArmA 2, AO, TOH and go it's own way. DayZ will look more like ArmA 2, than ArmA 3, but there's a good chance some of lessons from optimizing can be used in between DayZ and ArmA 3.DayZ can be released as soon as Rocket and Steam agree they had a stable and defined build, while ArmA 3 is at least going to be held back until the situation in Greece had been resolved. Predictable Platypus 3 Posted January 5, 2013 There's just one thing I'm not as clear on for the standalone, what do you guys think the customization will be like? I know rocket wants to add in different coats and stuff, but I'm talking about the actual person customization. Do you think it'll be the same as in the mod (which actually wasn't too bad, it's just that I like to be able to have some more variety then set faces and glasses) or will it be a completely different system? And good to know Rocket is still kickin, have some beans good sir :beans:

OrLoK 16185 Posted January 5, 2013 This is a discussion. The topic in annoucements wasn't. I support their actions of closing it.It's much better to keep the "arguments" (if we have to have them) in one place.Onwards and upwards!I wonder how much the avatar control has been altered, as for many that's one thing that blocks enjoyment in Arma/Dayz etc.L
