Don't even make third-person an option for DayZ standalone

Recommended Posts

well of course i did not mean that we should have a FOV up to 200 in dayZ, thats ridiculous... its just an example showing how FOV affects the game, and that a low FOV is bad, especially for dayZ...

making a slider going from 70 to 120 degrees would be optimal and realistic.

Yeah, some of us get motion sickness with first person after 30 minutes of playing. We like our third person, thanks.

That is the FOV settings. You can use BF3 FOV changer to fix this and make it less sickening.

Like I said, I like and want sliders also. I prefer up to 200, why? It´s only a formula, not hard to insert. (I think so...)

No facts now, but I belive the standart fow was 75 in dayz, if u togel to "zoom out" it was 90.

So if i´m right, it is like in all other games and you can change it like in all other games youself in config.

Like all other games...

+ change fov ingame

+ move head

fov is no argument in this discusion.

Arguments are, prefer third person or you get ill.

I accept these points. I don t force someone for first person only.

according to you a very big part of the dayZ community has some kind of inexplainable sickness, only caused by the game DayZ, and by no other game around!

well sherlock, what a suggestion!

instead of asking about the problem which causes these symptoms (which can be easily fixed by just increasing the FOV or activating third person) you question the physical condition of thousands of players.... great job...

i surely am sick like all the other people, it also deserves a new name, because it only appears in that game under certain circumstances... you are the medical genious here, so please suggest a new name for this pandemic disease which affects so many people!

i actually wanted to stop posting stuff about "options menu enhancement", because i made myself clear, and most people accept the fact that some people can not stand the current state of the first person, which currently can only be fixed by manually manipulating the config file, or using numpad for a slightly increased FOV, but is far away from "custom and easy".

All the standalone needs is some graphical options (such as FOV and more) to customize the player's preferences.

i do not understand in any way why the heck someone should be concerned about having some standard features which belong in a normal game.

this is a totally harmless, small, humble feature, which is desired by most people.

If you can live with your standard settings that is fine, now be a good man and accept the fact that people may have different eyes and brains and screensizes and aspect ratio and color display...

a neat graphical option display was suggested as a feature to aid people who cannot stand the way first person is displayed or find it outright broken, and added this as a reason why they prefer to be in third person. it doesnt harm anyone, at all!

why cant we just put that discussion in terms of "we want more graphical options" aside, and focus on the actual subject, third person vs first person.

sorry for that wall of text over something basic, dull and obvious just to state the simple fact that a "basic graphical options menu" is good and harmless.

for people who are sick of such a basic statement, just move along and bring the thread forward with some new fresh constructive idea on the actual subject!

Third-person ruins a lot of gameplay in DayZ. Here's how to win in a gunfight:

1. Turn on third person

2. Hide in a tree

3. Wait until you see somebody run past you, while they can't even see you

4. ????

5. PROFIT!!!!

Broken glass is supposed to be a nuisance while driving a car, but now with third person, nobody gives a shit about it.

Want to scout out any area, but don't want to give away your location? That's fine! Just go prone on top of a roof!

Prone while sniping but still want to be aware of your surroundings? That's fine, just use third person and you can see people sneaking up on you easily!

Want to ambush somebody when they go into a room without them seeing you? Just use third person and look around a corner! (especially in Elektro church)

this is what makes dayz unique and awesome and most importantly "playable" I enjoy only using third person.

well i do not think that any kind of exploit which gives people an unfair advantage should make dayZ awesome...

its more the natural feeling of surrounding and player body which makes it so popular among people.

Edit: after reading it again i suddenly taste the obvious sarcasm which i was too stupid to understand.

Who the fuck cares about casual majority in a hardcore survival game? You all are the reason why we can't have nice things.
Does it matter what anyones opinion is on the situation?

I have no doubt, whatever insults and arguments fly around the forum, Rocket will make the game he wants to.

I had lost interest in this discussion entirely, but I'd like to point out, FPS motion sickness equates to a sensory handicap.

I don't know about you, but where I'm from, attacking people who suffer ANY disability isn't cool.

Has anybody who suffers from the condition given confirmation that increased FOV is the solution?

Maybe I just can't find that part, but I see everyone moving on, and would like to be directed to that area of the discussion.

I remember many of you backing the "head-bob" solution, until that was debunked.

Forgive me for not trusting in mob-diagnosis.

Heres the thing though... even though 3rd person is a bit of a nuisance sometimes, there are things you can't exactly do in dayz that you can do in real life. For example, you can poke your head over a wall by jumping up to it to quickly peek over. You can also more sneakly peek around corners and stuff. Also, if you have broken glass in dayz, you cant' exactly quickly just break the glass so you can see better. A big thing though is that in real life, you have a much wider field of view. In 1st person in dayz, you don't have that, and you get some of it by zooming out, but better by going into 3rd person. Personally, I think that 1st person servers would be a lot more populated if they made some changes in it that made it better. They should keep 3rd person, but try to influence 1st person and make it better and add some 1st person benefits.

Duh, of course not. I was just throwing random insults at some random guy who doesn't share my opinion. Aren't forums entirely for this?

In all seriousness, I answered the wrong post, I didn't mean to insult motion sick people.

But really, it's like if someone would demand to cease production of sugar because it's bad for people with diabetes, or make Quake look like chess just because people with motion sickness can't play it. Sugar is sugar, Quake is a fast-paced shooter, they both are bad for disabled people by definition. You can tweak some colors to make things more contrast for colorblind people, but breaking the game with cheat-like mechanics is just too much. This game is not for everyone by its nature, deal with it. There are plenty of other carefully designed games. Let us have some fun in our way.

And yes, vision is what really matters, we are just milling the wind there, you're absolutely right.

You should do a poll to make it easier for the devs to figure out if its a good idea.

Personally I do agree but I also disagree. I agree with having only 1st person when walking/running/hunting but when in a vehicle, it can be changed to 3rd person

Ah yes, another everyone has to play the way I want to play thread. There is a reason the first person only servers aren't very populated all the time, the majority of the player base do not like them.

I agree, just keep it how it is, I hate first person shooter they make new nauseous.

i like third person and play the game in it because i like to know if my character is in shadow etc.. but this does give a unfair advantage true. and it is a shame because the first person view gives such a added realistic affect to you living this life through his/her eyes.

i play in third but i can live without it, use crosshairs if your ill :)

So Matt says server side options for Both 1st and 3rd person, argument / discussion solved.

Unless there is a major turn of events this thread is irrelevent.

look, the SA will be 1st person only, deal with it.

P.S. 'yard this thread. it's pointless.

on what account can you claim that the game will be FPV only? it does not say that you are part of the team. stop making assumptions and treating them as fact!

If you get headaches from playing in first person , you should see a doctor as soon as possible , and ask him if playing computer games for 10 hours straight is right for you .

You just need to apply consistent logic to the FPV vs TPV argument , and if you want to be able to magically look over walls and around corners , is there a good argument for me not to be able to jump 20 feet in the air and leap buildings with a single bound ? Perhaps even be able to sprint faster than a speeding car , that would make the game more fun for me too , but it's absurdly unrealistic .

There is nothing wrong with the FPV at all , it just feels that way to you because you have used TPV so much for its obvious advantages and exploits .

you do obviously not suffer from this, you have no facts about it, and you are treating assumptions as fact. three reasons not to give a wee wee about what you are saying.

Do we change roller coaster rides so people who feel ill can ride on them ?

Do we change strobe lights in clubs because they can adversely affect some people ?

Do we turn the music down at a rock concert because it's too loud for some people ?

Do we pander to every whim of every person who has a real or perceived problem with something ?

Fucking hell no .

But in saying that , a game is defined by its rules , and if you want magical powers ( at the end of the day , this is what 3rd person view offers ) , I wouldn't have thought this was the game for you .

I am quite certain that bottom line sales and peoples "fun" will result in this game still not quite being all that it could , even as awesome as it is .

I really like the awareness the 3rd person gives me. The 1st person is not good in the mod but hopefully works nice in the standalone. Servers should have the option to choose which one it uses.

that has just been confirmed today. both options will be available for the servers to choose from.

We should have the freedom of choice. If you think its unfair, then use third person so no one is at a disadvantage. Besides I get a little motion sick from the headbob in first person view. And sometimes I just like being able to see whats around my character.

You still don't get it..there is a difference in how a fight develops in both modes.

In 1st person everyone has to show themselves when they want to see anything.

In 3rd person the one who keeps hiding and waits for his opponent to make a move often wins. Why? Example: I shoot you but you go into hiding and so do i. We both peek around the wall to see what the other one will do. Normally we could just take a guess at best what is happeing behind the walls. Now the first one to move in order to flank the other one would normally have the upper hand but not in 3rd person because the one who is hiding has the benefit of a let's say hack which shows him what he shouldn't be seeing. This way i can plan my attack so the one hiding waits for the best moment to attack ( usually when the actually attacking person is the most vulnerable )...

There is no element of surprise. That's what makes 1st person fights more intense compared to camera camping ignoring the fact that the fov is always the same in every mode and for every player.

I don't really care about motion sickness, limited FOV, I just prefer playing on veteran servers with 3rd person enabled.

BI has explained why they have included 3rd person view as a feature in the game, so since it's an actual feature, it's not actually a hack, cheat or exploit, despite your best efforts to label it as such. It's an feature that's been part of their engine from 2001, it's fair feature, because everyone can use it and it's an avoidable feature, because you can select a server, where 1st person view is enforced.
