Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted December 26, 2012 Agreed. Although I did see someone post a possible solution posted that could keep both camps happy. It suggested that when prone or against a wall the 3rd person view zooms in to the player meaning they can't use it (as much) too look over walls/bushes ect. I quite liked the idea.
Mr Nasty 1023 Posted December 26, 2012 Dont get me wrong im all for a 'tweaked' 3rd person solution to appease both sides. I dont know how easy it is to implement something like that. IMO having the camera position itself to limit view while prone or in proximity of a wall or bush could cause more stress than its worth. You know how it goes, someone will always complain about it LOL.
Regicide 111 Posted December 26, 2012 Fix first person and I may support you. As it is now, no, first person is terrible. You situational awareness is horrible, and even with head-bob turned off, it's still annoying to me.For now, it's best to find a server that has first person only if that's how you want to play. Jars (DayZ) 63 Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) If it's acceptable to have third person because people like it , then every other single suggestion ever , should be on the table also .Third person can not in any logical way , be appropriate for this game .Do I get to have my radar so I can see zombies and players , in the top left of my screen ? Because I would "like" that , it would make the game "better" for "me" .Of course I shouldn't because it's inconsistent and dumb .If it's a game feature to able to look around corners , and over walls without actually doing it and being completely devoid of risk , then the bar is being set extremely low .Where is James Cameron when you need him . rossums 2190 Posted December 26, 2012 The reason 3rd-person is used so much is because it gives you an advantage, it's as easy as that.I prefer 1st-person but I use 3rd person because it makes life easier and everyone else will be doing it too.I hope they decide to fix it and force the camera closer when they approach a wall which means they can't abuse it to look over/round the wall without stick their head out - it's just pathetic.

thodouras95 21 Posted December 26, 2012 As much as I'm all for realism, I believe that none should be forced to play 1st person. The system's good as it is, some servers have it on, some have it off.Why not?I know it makes things much too easier, but well, you can't kick a broken windshield out of a car in-game.In fact, I actually think that the default ArmA II FOV is somewhat limited. And the "shaky" screen when walking or running seems one bit too jerky to be realistic. BCaused 49 Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) *sigh*Another topic like this, good lord. Maybe if all the people who despise third person could go to a first person only server and then you know, they won't all look like they have had a hacker attack. gesundheitk 420 Posted December 26, 2012 I like beating dead horses.I beat mines with a Meat Cleaver. No, they will not remove third person view. While there is some unfair disadvantages with third person, it allows you to get a clearer vision (180), and makes you connect with the character so you actually feel as if you see your legs, arms, etc like you normally would in real life. Due to 90 degree limitations, however, you can't see much of your body unless you take the time to look down. In some ways, it's more realistic to have third person than first. OrLoK 16185 Posted December 26, 2012 I beat mines with a Meat Cleaver.I hope you mean your horse.Anyhoo, I dislike the "play my way or the highway" mentality. User choice is key. There's so many games I'll never play due to em being 3rd person only. Why not let the end user/server admin choose?RgdsLoK
finkone 320 Posted December 26, 2012 Even with head-bob down all the way, I still get a bit of sickness when using FPV for prolonged periods of time. So no. Play servers that force your wanted game style. Nothings to stop me from using my ears instead of visual to set a ambush... and yes - I will hear you running. I can't stand the limited visual range of FPV. Thats why in games such as Warband, and War of the Roses they included 3rd person because people need more vision for the game to be more appealing, and realistic. The amount of setback presented from 3rd is completely minor, because BOTH PARTIES have the same ability to watch. So many people that want FPV only have had their asses handed to them by someone.
rossums 2190 Posted December 26, 2012 The amount of setback presented from 3rd is completely minor, because BOTH PARTIES have the same ability to watch. That is far from the truth.3rd person view gives you a very large advantage when it comes to shooting from a covered position. In 1st person view you must leave the cover to actually see the player, meaning you may get shot.In 3rd person view the camera does all the work, you can still watch your target without leaving the cover. This is the problem that people are having and it's perfectly understandable, there are far too many occasions where using 3rd party view gives a distinct advantage compared to 1st person. OrLoK 16185 Posted December 26, 2012 What we can agree on is that we need both, just there needs to be some fixing to lessen 3rd person exploits?
rossums 2190 Posted December 26, 2012 What we can agree on is that we need both, just there needs to be some fixing to lessen 3rd person exploits?Pretty much - the implementation to stop 'peeking' would essentially remove the advantage of 3rd-person but still allow those who prefer 3rd-person to use it rather tan forcing 1st-person on everyone.
OrLoK 16185 Posted December 26, 2012 I think there will never be a way to truly stop 3rd person advantage even if tweaked, it's just the players choice to accept that if he/she plays on a server with it enabled.L
joeoblong@yahoo.com 614 Posted December 26, 2012 *Breaks out club & begins beating this dead minced horse somemore*Really there are 1st person only servers play on them, if you people would quit whining and get together maybe you would have more players to play with. (If they allowed 3rd person only servers, they would be dead too)I like using both. 1st person superior aiming, and focusing. 3rd person is better for situational awareness. My opinion on the matter leave it be. 1st person people group up pick a server (or group of them) and populate it/them.
ImageCtrl 719 Posted December 26, 2012 I just need the opportunity the admins have an option to force head-bob/wiggle turned on.Am I the only one who likes it?Love beating dead horses, too bad I'm banned at warz forum.
OrLoK 16185 Posted December 26, 2012 I like beating too.For many folk the head bob causes motion sickness, it looks great in cutscenes but for me, I generally prefer it off.
sausagekingofchicago 4711 Posted December 26, 2012 Third person will be fixed in standalone. I think their going to make it zoom on your character when you are near a wall or something.I've seen several third person shooters try this and if it's done poorly it can cause even more sickness or irritation than arma's fpv. If done properly, awesome. I'll wait and see but more than likely people will just sit back from the wall a bit.
Rekli 995 Posted December 26, 2012 Maybe doing separate servers for both types of people? A bit improve 1st person and here we go! 50/50 servers running 3rd/1st person. they already have that (sorta)

Third person is the only logical view for a game like this as it makes the pvp game harder, makes travelling more interesting, and feels more natural. Yes, it makes pvp harder. Most of the anti-tpv guys prove this with their posts without realizing it.
MarcDaKind 37 Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) Love how atleast 50% of the arguments against FP only is headbob and FOV, when these settings can be changed in the game. Faith in humanity lost...I would never have thought that so many casual gamers would have picked up a game like DayZ, not sure if this is a good or a bad thing. What are your thoughts on nametags and waypoints, should these game changing features also be an option in the standalone?
