I still remember the day the dead came. First it was only a couple of victims. But in time, the numbers grew. The streets were filled with screams of the dying, the putrid smell of blood and gunpowder tainting the city. I was one of the lucky ones. My family. My friends. They were not. I saw my wife get killed in front of my eyes, and what did I do? Nothing. I stood there, filled with fear so powerful I could do nothing but stand and watch as she called my name until her last breath.

How many days has it been since I ran? The days seem to flow by, everything is just an endless struggle against the inevitable. My home, Berezino, lays in ruins. Broken cars fill the streets, the people are gone. Even the military could only slow down the fall. I remember hearing gunfire for day and night, but even they could not withstand such force. Now they roam the streets with the others. Only the dead remain. I took what I could and escaped. I ran for hours, until my legs gave away under me and I fell to darkness.

Black Lake is my home now. I live in a tent, fish and hunt for living. Sometimes I visit the city in hope of scavenging more supplies I could use. I visit Olsha airfield each day. In the radio they told of helicopters rescuing people. I find it hard to believe, but its the only hope I can cling to. Its the only thing that keeps me alive. I would spend hours there, laying in the trees, waiting for the help to arrive. But none have come so far. But Iv seen others like me. Survivors. Once a group of three went to the airfield. I kept quiet and watched them as they moved from building to building, looting off everything they could. At one point they had an argue. One of them had found what looked like a rifle, and the other two seemed to want it. The solution was simple. One of the two pulled pistol and put a bullet in the third mans head.

Life is cheap these days. Too cheap. It makes me wonder if we are human anymore.

But I am not a saint myself. I have killed too. It all happened so fast. I was looting Krasnostav grocery store when another survivor came in. A young lad, eyes full of fear when he saw me. Neither of us spoke a word, just stood there staring at each other. Second later I see the kid pull something out behind his back.

From that moment everything is just white noise in my head. All I can remember is me standing over him, his chest full of holes, the pistol Im holding empty, and a can of soda in his bloodstained hand. I tried to wake him up. I cried. I threw up. The groaning of the dead brought be back to reality. I grabbed what I could from the store and ran away. That night I stood over at the lake, put the barrel into my mouth and closed my eyes, but I could not do it. I still had the will to survive. I was not ready to give up.

I was making a trip to Berezino when I saw another group. They had working car, they drove past me while I hid behind trees. They drove to the outskirts of the town, three of them made their way into the old military camp, one stayed at the car. They werent going to find much, I had cleaned the place quite thoroughly. They seemed to nice it. They were discussing with each other, and after a while made their way back to the car. Back on the way they stumbled upon two other survivors. Couple keeping the meat store, I was suprised they managed to stay alive this long. I watched from the distance as they dragged them back to the car, yelling at them and beating them. What I had seen before was nothing compared to what I saw. Two of them held the man down on the ground, other two ripped off the womans clothes, threw her on the car and raped her right there, before his husbands eyes. When husband struggled, they shot him. Her scream still wakes me sometimes in the middle of the night. After they were done, they shot the woman too. Left their bodies to rot right there. I also made a mistake that time.

The sunlight glinted from my binoculars, revealing my position. Seconds later bullets started whizzing past me. I ran away as fast as I could, never looking behind. After that I have been too scared to leave my camp, too scared to sleep. I know they must be searching for me, looking for another victim to torture and kill. These men are not human, they are beasts, cold blooded killers who take lives for their own amusement.

Im so tired of this. So tired of everythi-

"Yo Daniel, what the fuck you doing over there, help us move the stuff"

"Wait a minute, I found the old mans diary. You should come and read this."

"Fuck the diary, just grab anything useful you can and load it up in the car"

"What the fuck should we do about the grandpas corpse then?"

"How the hell am I supposed to know? Just burn it with the tent for gods sake"

"Yeah, whatever...

...Sweet dreams old man"

Well, I now have 2 encounters with snipers and I have lived through both.

For some reason, when I logged back in today I was on the coast near Elektro; not one of the tall towers in Cherno that I logged out of. I decided to head through the city and try to hit the fire station in the middle of town. Barbed wire. Ugh. I go up on the roof and through the window I am able to exchange a Winchester for an AK. I start to go towards the ladder, only to see some aggro'd zeds. I go prone and see a few fresh spawns being chased by zombies. After a few minutes of watching, I hear shots. Looking towards the field in northern Elektro, I see another survivor with what I believe was a Winchester and later using a revolver. I simply watch with my Binocs, but my friend calls me and I get distracted for a few minutes. Looking back in, I see two survivors bleeding like mad in the field.

I decide that since I have an epi pen and a blood bag, if one of the two is still alive I'd revive 'em. I make my way towards the field, when suddenly I see a puff of smoke. "Crap! Why did In shoot?! Wait...I still have full ammo-" Another puff. A sniper was shooting at me. I instantly sprinted towards a building to hide behind, with the unseen sniper firing another 3 or 4 shots at me. The shots stop, so I figure the sniper must be on the mountain east of Elektro. I look at the area with binocs, but I see nobody. I try to go back towards the fire station - more shots. I eventually make it, and after seeing the coast is clear, decide that I'd played enough for one session.

Two snipers have tried to kill me. One with a .50 cal, the other with a weaker one (DMR, SVD, not sure, the noise was very quiet). And both of my would-be assassins have failed. Better luck with your next prey, buddy.

My Story last night :

After losing my weapons to our boat which was stolen at Krutoy cap on uk12 i decided to go to elektro in hope of finding some loot, i find a hachet in Kamyshovo and still some how had my makarov, finally i reached Elektro i decided i would only raid the Fire station next to the power station. Bad move, A Sniper with an AS50 Decides to shoot at me lucky for me he wasnt good at aiming i managed to run down the hill and avoid the shots.

I decided i would try and flank him with a Hachet and a Makarov with 12 Bullets so i had to travel around the road near the power station and then check for the sniper, Past the barn up the north and start walking to the bushes, Suprising the sniper was near to a tree in a Ghillie and was crouched so it was easy to see him. Since i didnt have a primary my reaction was to sneak up on him and kill him for shooting at me. Bad timing, Someone shot a Double barreled and an AK in the Barn next to me, Luckily the sniper somehow didnt see me in my camo clothing out in the open. I watched him walk further ahead then i lost him due to me relocating to see if i could hachet him. I didnt find him, still hearing the shooting i was very cautious of near me and stupidly crouched next to the bush. Bad Timing There must of been another sniper as suddenly i was getting shot at again, Panicking i ran into the people shooting yet only one noticed me i decided i had the choice of either getting sniped or being shot by a guy with a Ghillie i took the Ghillie chance at wanted to charge at him with my hachet. His gun crackled and i fell onto the floor, He broke my legs and put me into shock, As i didnt have the time to do anything i went still and expected my fate. A shot then silence and the YOU ARE DEAD Screen.

The game decides to spawn me at Elektro again (Hooray!) The moment i walk slightly i hear a dead player, He must of died the same fate he had the L85 'Paintball gun' (As i call it) and a Glock with a Coyote Backpack with a M24 in the back of it with a GPS and a map, I was happy until i realised i had no ammo for any of them. Who loots a player and only takes his ammo? Stupidly i decide to crawl through Elektro finally reaching the Edge of the other side, I start running. Bad Spawn for zombie is bad i get an aggro and have to peg it suddenly a shot pings out on the floor next to my feet. Shit its the other sniper, he has seen me again i try to leg it into cover by the rocks and manage to lose the zombie's Aggro (YES!). Now the problem, Getting past the Sniper (I know there was 3 of you ) I decided to try different rocks, everytime a shot pinged next to the rock, after a nailbiting 3 minutes i said fuck it and attempted to run to the Lighthouse, The As50 Sniper started shooting like no tomorrow and some how i managed to make it far then a DMR starting getting shot at me too, Shit was my main reaction suddenly another gun either a MG or the L85 was shot at me after making it half way to the lighthouse finally the AS50 hit me, Luckily i hid my loot by the rocks.

I Spawn at elektro AGAIN (Really?). and find a Hachet very quickly deciding that i was so bored now that i decided to simply charge towards the location of my first death, No-one was their. Good i thought running ahead i wondered where i was being shot at in my last life and finally i came to the conclusion that i was the Mountain next to the lighthouse, Armed with a hachet i run towards the location through the woods, finally i reach close to it it looked like no-one was here then suddenly i heard a DMR Crackle at close range around 6 Times, I was knocked out at 5k blood and around 3 shots fired at me again 2 missed one finally hit me, Glorious YOU ARE DEAD screen once again.

Finally i spawned at Kamenka and decided to travel to Balota and got blinded by the Airfield somehow (?) it was like a Graphical Glitch or something finally i decided to end my adventure in the woods after a 20 minute walk.

Thank you to the Sniper (S) Both AS50's DMR dude and the other guy who i presume is a spotter, I have learnt not to go to Elektro when the server has only around 10 people and stuff, Judging by the fact the [NiGz] Clan where the only ones who i didnt see die apart from like two other guys i presume it was them, not that it matter anyway it was still really fun getting sniped.

Thank you Elektro Snipers and Bandits for making Elektro the most Adrenaline pumping town ever i love going there :D - Derpy

Part I

There were three of us, starting our gaming session with a night-time raid on Elektro for basic supplies. As we came through the valley from the north, we noticed a survivor surrounded by zombies near the power station. We are all three decked out with NVG's, L85, M4 CCO SD, M9's silenced, you name it. The survivor is unarmed and pitifully trying to navigate by crawling through zombies. I'm not even sure if he could see anything at all. We decided to help this poor fellow, so I speak to him on Direct chat. I tell him we are not going to harm him, and I place spare NVG's in his pack. I instruct him to put them on. I notice he is African American, like us. He also had on some pretty cool looking shades.

I directed him to follow us, we were going to escort him into the firehouse to get a weapon. As we crept through what seemed like at least thirty zombies in our immediate area, we drop any that are in our path. We reach the firehouse and the survivor grabs an M4 and I toss him a couple mags. "Alright man, you can defend yourself a little better. We will see you around." I said as we parted ways with this stranger. He thanked us over direct comms and moved north into the night.

As we moved through Elektro, shots rang out from a brick house. I accidentally pressed the vault key, so of course I was dead within seconds. My team moved on the perpetrator and secured the area. My team member quickly locates him and takes him down as he was looting and burying my dead body. The player disconnects, and disappears.

I spawn in East Chernogorsk. While in route to Elektro, my mate takes fire from sniper hill from a silenced weapon. He sees two men, neither was the one we helped earlier. My friend fires on them with his M14, but they are slightly out of range. They are scared into hiding. As they wait, I make my back into Elektro with no weapon, no supplies. I decided to run distraction for my team and draw the two men out of hiding on Sniper Mountain.

I have an idea, I place my coyote pack on the ground. I am unarmed and packless. I slowly walk, not crouch, not run, but calmly walk up the dirt road approcaching the mountain. As I crest the hill silenced shots slam the ground around me, but I don't even flinch. I keep my stride walking toward these pitiful bandits a few hundred meters uphill. I'm not sure what went through their head at this time, but I see them disappear as they disconnected from the server. We scour the mountain and no sign, the server is dead. Havingn our supplies we decide to switch servers.

Part II

New server: I am on top of Sniper Mountain, having nothing, I am relying on my team to take down a decked out bandit to gear up. My mates are set up to the west. As we enter the server, I creep over the hill to see a pitiful sniper in a ghillie suit laying 100m ahead of me killing fresh spawns. I give my team the position, but they are not in direct sight of him. So I make a decision, I am going to sneak up on this guy and take a gun out of his backpack, if he has one, and kill him with it. With only hope and a set of balls on my side, I lay down and slowly tap W and inch forward, over a period of ten minutes so I don't alert the sniper of my presence. As I get close, Open Cayote Backpack, appears. Inside is an M4 silenced.... "perfect". You know what happens next, grab, reload, ping pang pow.... One dead scumbag.

I gear up and head back to my comrades. As I reach their location we hear a vehicle, it's a bus coming down the paved road toward Elektro. My friend decides to test the anti-material capabilites of his rifle. He shoots out the bus tire as the poor driver clumsily tries to exit the door, bam... He is down. Never drive a bus people, it's a deathtrap.

Shortly after the bus incident, we make our way toward the woods to meet a friend who is about to join the server and meet up with us. As we are running a hacker spawns us all hundreds of feet in the air over some debug area. Three of us are falling, one friend dies, then the other... I hit Abort about 20 feet from the ground. Not giving up, I spawn in our home server to see the aftermath of the hackers fury. As I spawn in the server, I see the message "Thunderpimp was killed". It seems I fell, but on my screen there I am with no gear, a broken bone icon, and in a desert wasteland. Still not giving up, I log off and back on the server again.

I am placed in Otmel back on the coast with all my gear, not a scratch... "Holy crap", I said. " I think I just beat the game! "

I basked in my good fortune for a bit, then we all logged off, having enough adventure for one evening.

Beans for 'Suhvahve!'

Found a bicycle, rode it into Cherno Church, another player was already inside with a crossbow aimed at me, as soon as I reached the doors I was shot, bleeding out on the ground he then ran up to the door and closed them, breaking my legs, it was clear he was out of ammo and while trying to leave I used my hatchet on him, he crawled out of the church and I crawled after him, <1k blood and bleeding out I managed to hatchet him again and kill him just before I died, good times.

Joined a server and decided to take a look at the NW Airfield, southern barracks. Aproached from south, scouted the area, moved into the small forest and paused. Watching the Zombie movement. Then I turned left a bit and suddenly 'Open Coyote Backpack' appeared. I was like: WTF?? -> Took a closer look: a corpse lying around, without flies making sounds.

Studied the corpse and it revealed: "His name was =FriendlyRussian=, he died from ...", then I remembered: about 30? minutes ago there was a message: "=FriendlyRussian=" was killed. Seems like he got owned by a Zed walking past him while he was AFK, at least I got no other explanation, because of: in his possession: M4 CCO SD with 4 mags, EVERY tool except Toolkit (I already had one) and Binoculars, which are obsolete when you have Rangefinder and NVG, somehow he had no sidearm or I did not see it, but a few PDW mags which are now mine too.

All in all, was a good morning after a long long night shift, but now, finally, it's time to go to bed. Good Night everyone!

Hey, So a couple of weeks ago my friend Jack and I are at the Balotta Airstrip, it was about 2am (in game) and I saw a guy run across my screen with a chem light. Jack has a MP5 and all I have is a Hatchet, we immediately tell him we're friendly and he asks if we want to trade. So we start trading with him and Jack gives him some beans and tells me(Skype) that we're going to kill him when he does the eating animation. I stand back next to a hangar just in case something goes wrong. I hear some shooting and all I think is that it's Jack shooting him, but then Jack yells that he has broken legs I look around and see muzzle flashes from a nearby bush. I just try and hide from the bullets to give Jack the morphine since I'm kind of the Pack-Mule. Jack crawls into a room and we survive the rest of the night.

He'll never know it was a bandit that killed him not us, and always stand in the shadows when shit goes down.

A story i wrote about one of my nights of playing dayz

So here we were...

On the outskirts of Berezino

My friend Merijn on the lookout with his binocs and me with a DMR sniper

"Looks clear" he said

"If you move out and get to the pub in the center and then on to the hospital I'll cover you with my DMR" i replied

I guided him through a dozen Zeds and he went in the pub eventually

Spotted him through the first floor windows when he suddenly heard footsteps on the stairs

"I can hear a zombie inside" he said with a panic in his voice

"I didn't see anyone enter, are you sure theres somebody inside ?" i said

I swap out my DMR for a l58 with thermal vision

I see someone moving up the stairs

Somebody else is inside !

"Merijn !" i shouted

"Someone is inside you have to move i cant see him !"

"Merijn ?"

He is dead

How could this happen, i was covering the front the entire time

Hours passed and i still didn't see the bandit move out

Just as i was planning to move south to meet up with my friend i saw movement

The bandit ran out of the pub attracting zeds from over the square

I took defensive positions and watched his every move from the tree line 650m away

Waiting for him to lose the zeds and stand still so i could take a clear shot

I measured the distance and wind speed and aimed 4 dots above him and the zeds chasing him

He ran back in the pub and shot all of them in a quick burst with his Automatic Rifle

When he was done he went over to the hospital

I moved to my left to watch the back alley of the hospital

There he was, The killer, The one who was going to die, My enemy

He suddenly stopped and bend over to refill his canteen

This is it !

I took aim and fired a shot

It took about 2 seconds before it landed in his heart

He fell over and died immediately

Revenge...

I decided not to loot the body and continue south

On the south side of the forest there was a factory

I scanned the horizon with my thermal vision

"No one there" i thought

I moved in to check the factory when i noticed something off

I thought my mind was playing tricks on me

Never did i see a beauty like this

There was a fucking chopper on the roof of the factory !

I checked the map and noticed this was a weird spot for a chopper and thought that it would belong to a gang of bandits

I was on full alert by now

Moved along the tree line some more and found a sniper tower

Quickly i jump on top of it and scan the horizon again

I noticed a bright orange silhouette on the horizon

A sniper with a DMR scanning for anyone to steal his chopper

Since i noticed him with my thermal and it was dark by now i figured he didn't spot me yet

Quickly i bolt down and crouch across the tree line

"He still didn't spot me" The darkness concealed my movement in the trees

I moved to a better sniping position on top of a rock and aimed my DMR

Measured the wind and distance of a nearby zed

500 meters, 1.9 dots

I aimed at him

Aldo he was lying there waiting for someone to loot his chopper he must have felt me watching him

The player suddenly stood up and walked along the tree line towards me

I squeezed the trigger

The bullet hit him in the head and his body bulldozed into the ground

"Kill" i said

My shot attracted a few zeds and i quickly finished them off with my m9 silenced pistol

Looted the body for the few extra DMR mags and finally went in the chopper

Flew off to Topolka Dam where i picked up my friend

Then proceeded north towards the horizon to meet up with my squad over in Grishino

So I was on a server headed all the way to Skalka at the top left of the DayZ map (North-West) and I found a camp with 4 tents at the time and decided to check it out, It had amazing gear, food, drinks and vehicle items (wheels, jerry cans etc) so I went to hide in a bush to afk for honestly 30 seconds, and when I came back and sat down I looked at the screen and at that very instance my bone broke and I died. So the next day, me and 3 of my friends head to STARY SOBOR and gear up, and we finally head there, after honestly 3 hours + of running and gearing we finally made it to the spot. We log out and server hop to the server where I died and then this happened.

My little story isn't especially exciting to most seasoned players but as I've only been playing about a week, it's one of the few I've got to tell.

This weekend I managed to loot a box of matches, hatchet and a hunting knife. Suddenly the game made sense.

For the first time I could survive, really survive not just run round around lost in large circles until zombies, bandits or hunger/ thirst takes me.

My first sheep kill and cook-fest was a joy, I was very low on blood I made it out into the wilderness and had a meat orgy that recovered my health and made me feel like Bear Grylss!

I really enjoyed that weekend (I even managed to avoid getting hacked to death!), avoiding civilisation and living off the land so I started to head north as I'd never explored that part of the map before.

Then through my Binos I saw it...

A helicopter crash site! (My first.)

The WoW loot whore instinct kicked in...first mistake.

I ran to the middle of the field in a crouch constantly hitting prone and scanning the horizon with my binoculars.

The nearby zombie was dispatched with a pistol rather than my trusty hatchet I'd been using for stealth... Second mistake.

When I reached the helicopter one side didn't seem to have any interaction and as I'd made it to the site unscathed and as I thought at the time, undiscovered, I ran round to the other side of the helicopter.

My lack of caution, greediness and just all round stupidity where brought home to me with a crack of a sniper rifle in the distance.

I froze for a second like a fool who just realised he was an idiot, then realisation set in that I was in big trouble. First shot missed but standing there like a stationary target wasn't going to get me lucky a second time.

I dived to the deck and started crawling like mad to the nose of the helicopter so I could use it as shelter, and in the back of my mind noticed that I'd only heard one shot that didn't hit. Maybe I just heard a shot that wasn't aimed at me, maybe it was just coincidence, maybe I'd survive...

Crack... second shot... half of my blood gone, broken legs.

Guess not then.

Crack... third shot and I was unconscious with a huge timer and bleeding like a stuck pig.

I bled out and never regained conciousness over what felt like minutes. I sat there and watched my life pouring out of me all the time figuring that the sniper was watching through his scope and instead of putting me out of my misery was watching me slowly bleed to death.

I was perfectly happy with being killed then, firstly, it was a fair kill and that sniper might have been there for hours waiting for a hapless dolt to come stumbling into his trap.

Secondly, I had been a hapless dolt and utterly deserved that death.

It's not often I can say I had a good death, that was one of them :)

so there i was, slowly making my way southwest from solnichniy to help out a random dude in need of a hot meal and a little blood, when i came across a helicopter crash! after -almost- running at a dead sprint out into the open field, i stopped to think. i spent a few minutes circling the wreck from the trees, and decided it was safe. after popping a couple zombies from the tree line, i made my way in.

it dropped an FN FAL with one mag, and TWO bizons with 3 mags for them. i had already been very lucky finding a coyote pack and m4a1 at the bolota airfield a few days earlier and a set of camo clothes in a random building near cherno last night.

i dropped the m4a1 and 3 mags for the FN (hopefully i don't have to reload...) and stuffed the bizon into my pack, after a little inventory management i was back on my way. that is, until i heard a gunshot. probably within 100M. semi auto, possibly an m4. another shot, and another. minutes of silence. one more shot. i watched the crash site for a few minutes but nobody surfaced. i started tracking the survivor out of nothing but morbid curiosity, following his random gunshots. i continues tracking him for probably 15 minutes. he was elusive and running fast. i eventually gave up, checked my compass, and moved on.

spotting a deer stand and a dam with fresh water in the distance, i decided to look for more FN ammo there and then stop for a meal. my guard was definitely raised with an unknown survivor nearby. i was making sure to cover all of my angles. i was moving from cover to cover, never exposing myself more than necessary. i was a shadow. time to eat.

i had just finished eating a fantastic leg of goat (cooked to a perfect medium rare) and was busy stuffing food back into my pack when i heard a rustle in the grass. i had the sudden realization that my life was currently in the hands of someone else. and here i was, the careful survivor, too busy trying to close my pack while yelping friendly into the mic to actually defend myself.

luckily, i didn't have to. i finally turned around to see an m4 cco - pointed at the ground - with a survivor attached to it. he returned the call of friendly, i told him that i had to change my pants. i asked if he was the one firing near the heli crash, he responded with a no, but asked if it sounded like an M4. before i could even offer him some freshly cooked steak he was off, presumably to stalk the shooter that i had come across earlier.

"back to hunting bandits, see you around"

apparently there are friendly people in this game.

Man these are all such great stories lol. This was just the thread I was looking for. I have a few to tell and will do so in one post. Now, I don't refer to myself as a seasoned DayZ player at all. I've known about and had the mod for quite a few months, but as far as play time goes, I probably only have about 1 month of total accumulated play time. So these stories may not impress many, but I hope that some newer players share my appreciation of these tales.

Story 1:

This one is about my first experience with DayZ. Might I add before I get started, my first experience with DayZ was probably a lot better than most other players. I began on the shore (big surprise). Not any shore though. Had I known the value of spawning in cherno at the time, I may have been much more excited. Instead I was scared out of my mind. It was pitch black and all I had was a Makarov, some food, some drink and some med supplies (as you can tell this takes place in an earlier version of DayZ). I made my way into the city cycling through all the different gear and learning how to use it. That was when I discovered the purtiful flares and began chucking them all over the place just because I could. After about half an hour of trying to naavigate and avoiding the moans and screams of zombies I was about ready to give up on the mod because it seemd like an epic fail at trying to make a cool zombie mod as always. But I decided to log off for the night and give it a try the next morning, as I was half asleep and could not grasp the concept of what to do. So the next day after watching some beginner guides and what not I finally began making progress. Skipping through a series of boring and almost failed loot attempts I found myself in the middle of Cherno where the statues are and next to the red brick style church. I was in the tall building with the big open lobby at the bottom with glass all around (kinda hard to explain). In a nutshell I was pinned down by a horde of zombies that apparently were too stupid to come around through the front doors. They just surrouneded the buildings. I picked off a few of them occasionally, but was quickly running out of ammo for the lee enfield i had found in there. Finally I fired my last bullet for both my lee enfield AND my makarov. I didn't see a way out and was just about to jump into the horde of zombies and die when a shot rang out. Zombies screamed... Another shot... and Another.. 3 more.. the shots continued and the zombies dropped like flies. The shots finally stopped, and with a bright light and a choir, my rescuer stepped through the front doors of the building looking like a boss with his Alice pack and 1866 Winchester shotgun. I was scared yet happy at the same time. I asked if he was friendly after thanking him for what he did. After a painful silence he finally replied that he was friendly. Skipping through our journey through cherno myself and the Swedish savior (i've come to call him "the viking".. yes that is a Robazz "king of sweden" reference). Anyways we were now moving inland. I felt extremely secure with this survivor as he had great gear, including NVGs, a map, GPS, hunting knife, blood bags etc. Apparently he ran into the corpse of a very unlucky bandit and scored the awesome gear. After a long long journey we finally made it to the NW airfield where we did NOT find NVGs or a GPS for me. It was alright though. Along the way i found an 1866 of my own along with medical supplies, an m1911, a large coyote pack, map, binocs, etc. I'll end this story here because nothing very interesting happened after this, as we both logged off and never saw each other again. Thanks to him though, my first experience with DayZ was an epic one. To tell you the truth, if it wasn't for him, I would have given up completely on the mod. Thank you "viking warrior". I hope wherever you are, that you are still living strong, and have not succumb to the infection, nor blood thirsty bandits, thank you for all that you did for me.

Story 2

This is is a shorter one, Just wanted to share this randomness. Recently I was playing with a friend of mine who is new to DayZ. And now having a good amount of experience under my belt, I was doing for him, what "the viking" mentioned above did for me. We both were on fresh spawns tho but I was teaching him the best ways to remain unseen and unheard. We came across the construction site in Cherno and with it, a double barrel shotgun. I picked it up and immediately fired off a round at an aggroed zombie, courtesy of my newbie friend. this aggroed 4 others. We made ur way to the top of the site and took out 2 zombies while doing so. The other two were making their way up. I only had one shot left. I hear footsteps above me and my friend. I look behind me to see an unarmed survivor climbing down from the highest part of the construction site. He turns around and pauses for a moment before saying "Oh.. helloo.." as innocently as could be, as if he didn't even hear the 3 blasts from my shotgun just seconds earlier. Not wanting to waste my last shot my friend and i head up the ladder he just came down. The two zombies were just below us now, on the same level as this unarmed confused survivor. I hear grunts down below but they aren't the zombies. It's the survivor with an open mic, throwing chemlights at the zombies saying "take that" and "chase the light!"... After having a good laugh I tell him to get his butt up the ladder. He doesn't listen. I yell for him to come up as a zombie is now face to face with him. The zombie swings at him *BANG!!!*.. I use my last shot to drop the zombie before he injures the survivor. Frustrated I tell him to come up the ladder. After doing so he asked if we wanted to see something cool. I humored him and said sure.......... He sprints full speed off the side of the construction site and falls to the ground instantly breaking his legs and becoming unconcious. Thinking he's dead I go down and check his body for loot. Nothing.... After a minute or two of my friend ad i cracking up at his stupidity and randomness his body begins to move back and forth followed by "RAAWWRRR I'M A ZOMBIIEEEEE"... I was now in tears laughing so hard. After that he tells us he's going to the store and asked if we wanted anything. After respectfully declining he runs off and I follow him to see what mischief he is going to cause. He runs up to the first zombie he sees and calls out "Look what I found!!!" My friend and I let him aggro all the Zeds in the area before continuing our search for loot. Minutes later we see his name pop up, saying he was killed. R.I.P comedy guy... Even in an apocalypse, he still managed to have fun and die happy. My hat goes off to you.

Story 3

I will try to make this one as quick as I can. My eyes are growing heavy and I have to be up in three hours lol. After starting a fresh spawn I slowly make my way through Cherno. So far the loot has been terrible. Nothing but empty cans. I go to the fire station in Cherno to hear gunfire. I lay prone in the front of the station as dozens of zombies swarm the area, stepping on me, tripping over me, but all the while not noticing me. They suddenly disappear marking the panic d/c of the player inside the fire station. I enter and manage to find a double barrelled shotgun with some slugs. The rest of the loot was not ideal. A heatpack and some other useless junk. So I make my way to the church where the loot was just WAITING for someone to find. In the church I found a map, binoculars, extra bandages, more slugs, food, a canteen, a hunting knife, and a box of matches. I have no idea how all of that got there but it did and I was extremely happy. I decide to hit up the convenience store before heading inland towards the NW airfield. I find some more food in the store (go figure) and another pair of binocs, which I leave for another lucky survivor who passes through. Now I decide with the gear I have (including the hatchet I forgot to mention that I picked up before the fire station) that I can begin heading to the NW airfield and check out what's there, maybe I could score some NVGs or a GPS. So As I make my way out of the store and on to the road next to it, avoiding Zeds of course, (no im not british I just prefer calling them Zeds lol) Right in front of me, like a light shining down from the skies, sits a pickup truck. Expecting disappointment I hop in the driver's seat and find that the fuel tank is FULL. I start 'er up and take off feeling glorious. I get near balot and the artifact glitches kick in. So I stop and check out the gear in the truck while contemplating what to do. In the gear of the truck there's food, an AKS, an AKM only one AK mag, 6 jerry cans, an m249 belt and a few other items I can't remember. Excited I get back in after saving it and try to make my way down the road despite the artifact glitches. Didn't work out too well.. I crashed into damaged vehicles and broke the engine of the vehicle. Frustrated I logged out for the night. 2 days later I log back in, and find myself on the coast somehow much further west of Balota than I was, with all my gear, but no truck. I figured it was for the better as having a working vehicle is more of a death sentence than a blessing. the only thing I care for about vehicles is storage. I could care less about driving around I just want a place to store all of my items that I can't afford to carry around all the time. So anyways after 5 minutes my vision gets blurry and grey. Confused I notice my blood decreasing. Somehow I was bleeding!!! I bandaged myself and it stopped at less than 7,000 blood. Conveniently enough there was a cow, across the street. Killed it, gutted it, cooked and ate the meat and got back up to 10,000 blood with some meat leftover. After awhile I made my way to stary sobor where i traded out my previously acquired lee enfield for an AKM. I also found a few other goodies including a military flashlight. After Stary I made my way to the NW airfield finding a helicopter crash along the way. At the airfield I found two dead bodies. One of which had an Alice pack which I hastily took off of his lifeless corpse. I then made my way back down to Novy Sobor to meet a friend. After we found each other we headed to the military encampment at Stary Sobor, finding a SECOND helo wreck between novy and stary where we found him a DMR. After stary we began heading back the the NW airfield and logged off at a deer tower just north of Stary Sobor. Earlier tonight I made a run into Novy to see what I could find. A whole lotta nothin is what I found. On the way back to the deer tower, I stumbled across a bicycle hidden in the trees. And hidden BEHIND the bicycle was a tent, filled with more food, medical supplies, an M16, an M4A1 and one of my favorites, an M4A3 CCO.. I grabbed that one and swiped 11 of the 17 30rnd STANAG clips that were stashed in the tent as well. I grabbed some other little goodies, saved the tent, saved the bike, and then rode the bike back to where the deer tower was and logged off... I know have a quiet yet effiecient means of transportation as well as reliable storage for all of my gear. This is going uite well for me. I have had this character for almost a week and while ive had many close calls with both zombies and players, I am still going strong and finding better equipment as I go.

Story 4

Ok I forgot about this one and I will make it very short. Before I made the character mentioned above I had another one that eventually died... I was unconcious bleeding out. Was all the way down to about 2000 blood. It was night time, my vision was blurry and pulsing. I could barely see 10 meters in front of me. I had a hatchet and a pile of wood and raw meat... all I needed was matches.. I made my way into a tiny village (not sure where it was) but I was able to get into the only building that could be entered. It was a house with only ONE loot pile in it. And In this SINGLE building with a SINGLE loot pile there JUST so happened to be a box of matches. I cooked meat ate a good feast, was back to about 9000 blood and logged off. The next day I logged on, found an ATV which had a jerry can on it, filled it with fuel, rode off into the sunset, and minutes later was knocked unconscious by 2 zombies when i became greedy and entered a small shack in the middle of nowhere. i died shortly after. oh well lol teh above character is going much better...

Anyways sorry for the ridiculously long post but thank you for taking the time to read it.. i can barely type anymore lol good night everyone...

My brother and I were on our way to meet each other in Elektro as I came from east and my brother the opposite! On my way west towards Elektro I scavenged and searched through some folk homes, for supplies and deadly weapons to defend us from hostile zeds and humans alike. In one of the first houses to east of Elektro I found a double barreled shotgun some late guy owned, and continued my trek through Elektro to meet my dear brother at the big industry building next to the railways!

There, I spotted my brother and was winking happily to him.. all but suddenly I got shot from nowhere, 5 bullets was fired, 3 of them hit me. Had around 3500 blood left and was bleeding also got broken leg. Fortunately I stood next to a broken section of wall and I crept in my agony to the safety on the other side of the wall. Tended to my wounds and shot morphine into my veins that miraculously healed my broken leg, there I was left with 2500 blood, I couldn't see clear anymore!

My brother who was apparently not spotted by the vile bandit made a run to the broken section and got to me without getting hurt, we decided that we had to get to the hospital as fast as possible! It was easier said than done when you are paranoid as damn and all them zombies!

Nevertheless we made our way without encountering any survivor or bandit, my beloved brother looted bloodbags and other medical supplies whilst I was hiding in some bushes behind the church! Brother got back to me and gave me blood transfusion and painkillers! Finally after creeping around with pain and vision grumble as an old man or drunkards, I was fully healed! We decided to get back to the hospital and get some more medical supplies, easy and smooth we got there. I found a box behind the inner wall of hospital. Well, supplied myself and my brother was scouting along the street after zombies and bandits!

Then my beloved savior got brutally murdered by a bandit (probably the guy who shot me at the industry building), brother dropped to the ground and died instantly. All while I was behind the inner wall, of course the bandit was making his way inside... not suspecting me! I quickly pulled my double barreled shotgun and waited for him... it would be a pleasant revenge!

BLAM

The bandit fell the the floor unconscious from the shockforce of my barreled shotgun

Klick, Klack

I reloaded, and pointed the smoky pipes to the unconscious bandits head.. "no pity"

BLAM

The bandit got grisly executed, brain was splattered everywhere!

Revenge was gladly served, the good won against the evil!

Also thank you, for delivering me a M4A1 with scope, Laser, Grenade Launcher, NightVision, Rangefinder and much much more!

ok so i spawned on the beach after being killed by a bandit, so i see that im in Otmel so i start to head to elektro by following the clouds knowing that they move from east to west. After running for about 5 or 6 minutes i hear in direct chat "do not move, i repeat do not move!!" me being shocked and thinking i was about to be killed just stood there in disbelief, when to my suprise i man in a ghillie suit stands up and moves towards me. I just stand there in disbelief wondering what the hell was going on when i hear again through direct chat from the ghillie man "how good are you with a sniper rifle" i said "not bad, why?" and he replies "Ok heres what im gonna do, i have an AS50 some NVGs and a Ghillie suit that were supposed to be for my mate but he died so you can have them" i stood there in shock i couldn't believe what i was hearing, but after that he said "you have to follow me first" so i say "yep sure thing" so we start heading in the direction of cherno, when something even more suprising happened. when we got closer to Cherno i could start to hear heavy gun fire, grenades exploding and a helicopter flying over head. i just realised that i had walked into a giant battle. after sitting on a hill for about half an hour with my murder count rising i hear a loud "CRACK'' and i realised that we were getting shot at so i decided to run off, because i didnt have that much suplies i logged off and waited for my mate to join the server later on.

so there you go thats the most shocking thing that has happened to me.

So, yesterday I finally played DayZ for the first time, I found some dude and went with him, but he aggro'd some zombies and they all went for me and I had to run away, we separated ways and I finally lost the zombies with only around 5000 blood left, I had no weapons, just the basic items like Pain killers, flashlight, and others but I had an iron bolt to be used with a crossbow, though I didn't have any, so now it was night time in the game, I went out to look for at least a guy to team up with but I had no luck and I was also being chased by a few zombies AGAIN. But this time I pressed shift too many times by accident and then the sticky keys pop up appeared and when I came back to the game, I died. :|

That was the first time I played, now this is the second time I played DayZ, I kept moving west and then I found "Cherno" but it was already night time by the time I got there, so I quietly climbed up a building (there was a ladder), and thought I was safe, I didn't see anyone at all. But I still died.. I was so curious to see what was down beside the building that I fell off and died.

Well, half of the time playing the game I was kinda bored because I had noone to play with, the only fun part was following the guy and when he stops for 2 - 5 seconds I would rush to try and steal the stuff in his bag :\

Spawned at Balota. Looted some houses, found an axe and a nice czech backpack. Then i went for the airfield, found lots of dead bodies, food and ammo in the tower, no (pickable) gun sadly. A bandit equipped with only an axe surprises me in one of the hangars, i yell: "Friendly, plz don't kill i have nothing of worth!". He says: "Yeah, no problem my friend...".

So i run (never trust a bandit), looking behind and don't see him following me. Can't resist looting the last building on the airfield, finding more food. The bandit hits me in the back with his axe, i hit back and so it goes for a half minute. Both of us die at the same time.

I say: "That was a smart idea...". He stays silent.

9 day survivor lost to hacker.

I was running along the north western perimeter looking for camps and vehicles when suddenly someone took a shot at me.

I could not hear where the shot came from so I tried to run for the nearest row of trees.

Next thing I know, large explosions are erupting from the treeline I am running towards, and the first thing I thought was, "Satchel charges", (now I believe this to be artillery), so I still think I am in a legit PvP run for my life and don't Alt-F4.

Now my assailant starts firing with a different gun and I am shot dead.

Heart pounding and now beginning to get the slight inkling that I may have just ran into a hacker, I respawn near Cherno.

I run in the general direction of my first possible loot location when I am suddenly teleported to the wilderness up north with a large group of other new spawns mostly barehanded, some with hatchets. People are generally bewildered running around yelling.

Suddenly cows parachute down from the sky.

And then what I believe was a serious of bombs or nukes went off.

After aborting and switching servers I spawned in the wilderness bleeding knocked out and with legs broken.

Needless to say I respawned when I could.

I dont feel I have it in me to play more right now. I might fire it up in an hour or two....

The only consolation I take from this is a full reset of my kill count now that ammo limits are now in place.

From now on, the kill count will mean more.

Edit: I found a low pop server and gathered some basics and headed to the NE Airstrip

After clearing the control tower, I found what I would describe as a "survivor tent" pitched directly in front of the first hangar.

Inside was mostly lower tier weapons, but the remington was better than the crossbow I had. Also inside that tent, to my surprise, was a GPS! Which had not found up until now.

The latest patch seems to run very well for me too, btw.

The following that happened is a true story. It happend from between 10:30 to 11:25pm

Having kept my character alive for over a week, I was feeling proud of myself. I had just found a tool box, and was using it to set up a base hidden in the woods. I had lots of gear, food, and water, and a number of zombie kills, due to my use of a hatchet for silent kills. This day, I went another sever, as my usual was full, hopping to find some more tents and fortifications for my base.

Then it all went wrong.

I spawned in this new server, with three other characters around me in the middle of nowhere. Confused, I loked around, and noticed a death.

Beroin has died.

I was confused. How was I dead? All my gear, my toolbox, the Alice backpack... all gone. I disconnected, and reconnected to my favorite, which had less people now.

And I spawned on the beach.

I swore up and down. Everything was gone, not a flashlight, backback, or painkillers. My hunger was low, so I knew I didn't have a lot of time. I thought it would be easier if I ran into town, and get killed by zombies, so I would have something. I ran into a larger town, thinking it was Cherno. A single zombie came after me. I ducked into a railstation, and found a shotgun and an Alice backback. I smiled. I wasn't going out easy. I ran, but no zombies came after me. I ducked into a firestation, and decided to go look online to find out where I was, because I had never been to Cherno before, when I saw the bodies at the foot of the stairwell.

Running over, I saw the two bodies. I searched them, and on the first one, I found an M16. Thinking that there was a bandit above me, I went up, but found nothing. I ran out of the fire hall, with a horde of zombies behind me. Running down the street, I noticed a hospital. I decided not to go in, as I never had before and didn't get want to get trapped, so I turned the corner down an alley way.

And came face to face with a bandit pointing a gun straight at me.

In a panic, I let out a burst of shotgun lead, hitting him twice. With the zombies behind me, I ran past him, shooting him several more times, hopping the zombies would go for him. Then I noticed that I could loot him. He was dead, glitched standing up. I kept running, the zombies still on me, and turned another corner to find two more corpses standing up. I kept running until I got to a large building with three floors, and bolted to the second floor. The zombies began pouring in, and I shot them down one after another. But I didn't have many slugs for my M104, and I soon ran out with more zombies attracted by the noise. I ducked into a room, despretely trying to switch mode so I could fire the pellets I found earlier, but couldn't figure it out. Then in a panic, I switched it out for the M16, with only 20 bullets in it. I noticed no zombies had come in, so I left the room, and found out that most had left, but two had stayed, so I shot them, and it was all over.

I was now trying to survive. I knew if I could get this gear back to base, I would be set. I searched the building, grabbing some slugs for the shotgun. I looked outside and saw a convience store, and ran over to it. Bodies littered the floor so I acted fast. I grabbed some water bottles that were full, cans of food, gear, and whatever I couldn't carry I ate for blood.

I snuck out the back door and crawled to a small patch of trees. I had found a map, and I looked at where I should head to get back to base if I was in Cherno (which it turns out i wasn't). I opened the map, and as soon as it loaded, I heard gunfire.

Closing the map, I tried to figure out where it was coming from. Two deaths had just been recorded, so I knew a bandit was in town. I tried to crawl to get into a better position, when more gunfire rang out, and another body fell dead. I reasoned about going in, and trying to escape. In the end, I ran. I knew that I had to get back to base to fully equiped myself and stock my base so I could go bandit hunting when I respawned. All of this within an hour.

Just logged back in this morning in firehouse tower of Cherno, as i heard M16 gunfire from the supermarket. I saw this guy struggeling with zombies (heard auotmatic fire, not that ammo conserving but oké). Next thing i know this guy rushes out, running straight to me. I went downstairs and waited. He ran through the red doors to the corner with the fireman-poles, chased by 10 or more zombies. As the friendly player i am, i shot them all. After a small stalemate of head-popping and making sure he was friendly (and he made sure i was), we came to a silent agreement to run around together.

He then asked me to blood bag him and also did one on me for saving him from the zombies (he might've been out of ammo?). We then proceeded towards the church where a fellow was chased by a zed, running to the church from the north-east. I shouted: 'get in the church!!!' He probably figured he didn't have much to lose if we shot him, hurried in the church and we killed his persuing zombies. Seemingly happy we weren't the type that KOS he started to looting the church to no avail, because there was no gun. I told him i had seen an AKM in the top of the firehouse so we led him there and 5 minutes later this guy was from bare-bones to fully armed with an AKM.

He felt safe and secure, so we headed towards the northern military spawns in search for ammo along the coastal/south of cherno. A hughe group of zeds chased us from the square infront of the bell-tower town hall building, and unfortunately we scattered... Pascal (unarmed guy) ran back to the church, Niket (the M16 guy) ran off somewhere north and i kept going north-east. Later i saw that Pascal had been killed :( Niket lost connection.

I continued north-east towards the military camps, and as i made my way to the hangar not far from there i spotted a guy getting chased by zombies, running into the hangar. Being in a friendly mood i rushed in and be his hero too. Mighty suspicious the guy was! After clearing the zeds he kept hiding and sneaking out the other door, but after a while i saw him sneaking around me, seeing what i was doing. As i got to the military camp i saw an MP5 with 3 mags, and i got the guy (Capico) to come in and grab the gun & ammo. Since i didn't really was 100% sure he wasn't going to pump me full i still was cautious but relieved i had convinced him that friendly players are still around.

Unfortunately, as i raided the other military tent, my newly acquired buddy ran into the medical tent, bumped upon another guy!! This dude probably just freaked out and unloaded on Capico, killing him :'(. Since i wasn't going to take chances, i shot the guy too.

Lost a ton of blood, around 4000 left, i tried making my way back to the church and eventualy the firehouse to get some more ammo. As i ran through several buildings i stumped on a guy, we like ran right past eachother, i tried running out the backdoor for a more friendly aproach, he turned and shot me once with his double-barrel. I died. I hope he panicked and wasn't a bad person, but i'm happy i will help the guy now with my death. I had NVGs, rangefinder, M4A3 CCO, PDW, enough mags for all guns, map, GPS, toolbox, blood bags, painkillers, ALICE pack,... He is going to be happy :)

Faith in Humanity restored?

I'll let you decide ;)

This is a story i got from a website.

A group of three players encountered another survivor. He called out "Friendly" and they all lowered their guns. After a brief chat, they decided to take this new guy along with them - safety in numbers, right? Well it all went swimmingly and they headed off to raid an airfield together. There was some excellent loot to be had and with four in their party, they killed all the zombies and ran around helping themselves to some of the best gear they'd seen.

When they emerged from a particularly large building, there was a group of bandits waiting for them and they shot all the survivors dead and looted their corpses. Shot them all dead apart from one. Yeah, that friend they'd picked up along the way was part of the group of bandits. He'd been talking to his bandit chums on Skype the whole time telling them where they were. Having had the base cleared of zombies and all the loot gathered in one place, the bandits stepped in and did what bandits do. The "friend" didn't do any of the shooting, allowing him to keep his non-bandit survivor skin and dupe some more innocents. Ooh, nasty

I am at day 6 now. I was near cherno where my friend and i got shot in the store. Bandit left us for dead didnt loot us or finish us off. I got help from a survivor while i got consious i asked help and a team of 2 people replied. They gave me blood transfusion and morphine for my leg. My friend was saved to and went in a chopper with some guys while i said i would stay in cherno to see if i can find any good loot. While i was just outside cherno i hear my friend scream on skype that they where getting shot at and they crashed near Kamarovo. My friend survived yet had only 2000 blood when he bandaged himself. I went running straight to him. I was getting shot underway so i sneaked into the mountain to end up behind the sniper that was shooting me and probably also my friend. So in voip i screamed IM FRIENDLY as im swinging my hatchet into his face till he died. Since i had little time i checked his backpack for loot. Since his sniper was low on ammo i didnt take it and left his body there. When i got to Kamarovo the whole place was flooded with Zeds. I made my way to the beach side and seen my friend laying there. I gave him a bloodbag and got him back up. We relocated and looked where we would go. We went to the deer stands right above us where we hoped to get some loot before running our way to Stary Sober. Near a house we argo'd a zed that hitted me and i got infected and broke my leg. We desided to go back to cherno to get something out of the hospital for my fever and broken leg. On the way there we found 2 hangars and some short of lookout tower. I said id take the hangars and he takes the tower, since i cant crawl up stairs. He said he found an Ak and than we heard a shot. So we both asked if it was us or not. Yet none of us seems to be shooting. So he took cover near the door and i layed down behind a truck. All of the sudden i see about 2 players running across taking down zeds and looting. After what seems hours of waiting we left and made our way to Cherno. at the edge of cherno we agro'd another zombie that knocked me out cold and i was losing blood fast. He said he didnt know what to do since he only had a AK and didnt want us to draw attention. Since i was about to die i told him to F*CKING SHOOT the bastards. He fired his ak and killed the 3 zombies that where feasting on me. I got up and bandaged myself as a horde of them came rushing at us. He fired all his ammo at the zeds and i swong my hatchet around. Before this happend we had about 10 zed kills each. By this time we both had about 60+ zed kills so it was pretty tense after crawling on we seen a hospital i told him to get some stuff as i provided a lookout on a higher building (since u cant go up stairs but can climb ladders with a broken leg WEIRD STUFF) He took some bloodbags, painkillers and a morphine for my leg and came back for me. We than both went back to loot what we needed but still i was coughing like hell. Than i said we had to go to elektro and hope to find some antibiotics there. We ran till we seen the huge hill next to elektro. But going around it would take time so we ran up the hill and found a tent camp. To bad no stuff in them so i putted in a can of beans for fun. We ran into elektro and sneaked to the hospital and finaly found antibiotics. So we all good to go than i said lets try getting over to the supermarket. We went to a building across te street to see if its clear and to get some decent loot. On the roof we where making up a stratagy as how to enter. Once i stood up we got shot at. So i got in cover. All bullets flying over us my friend crawled back into the building. As i tryed to do that i got glitched into the roof edge and got shot at pretty bad i had about 6 shots hit me. At that time i thought i was going to die but i managed to get inside and bandage myself as my friend gave me a bloodbag and morphine for my leg ( yea broke it 3x and still running do not try at home though) Once inside the building i sneaked out the back way to see where he was located at. We knew it must have come from the treeline near the hill. So i scouted but coudnt see anything. So i trew a smoke and ran away the opposite way with my friend to another building. After waiting for about 30 mins and still no survivor/bandit seen we decided to call it a day and logged out.

It seems all my good stories start with a chopper or end with us crashing in one....
