    The TANK Thread

This game needs helicopters and ships but for your opinion, did you ever play the original dayzmod? Vehicles weren't something you saw near the coast. Atleast not driving less than 80 km/h hoping that no one stops them. Sure there were people with to much cars wasting some, but it was definitly worth it I found 1... 1! rocket launcher in hundreds of hours of dayz and I never ever saw a flying rocket or someone with the launcher, except the one time I found one and tried it...

    The TANK Thread

As with helicopters I do not see the point. This NOT a war game, why make it one? It's a survival game and as said if you have tanks you need to have rocket launchers. Which every asshole will just camp with in Berenzino or wherever an annihilate anything that moves. They make no sense to add, especially not with the lack of a destruction engine in the game this game is about realism so shooting at someone in a house and it not blowing the crap up is retarded. Cars will be enough, they will be tanks in this game and I think they're all that should be added in the way of vehicles, except maybe motorbikes or bicycles. Taking on a group of guys in a jeep or something would be hard enough as a fresh spawn don't give people tanks too god damn... The coast would just be hell and the game would just be terrible, absolutely terrible.
  3. So, with all the Zombie Apocalypse games coming out, I'd like to look at what is hopefully going to be one of the things that makes DayZ different. I think the complexity of the game's system is going to play a big role in many people's enjoyment of the game. Many systems already have very complex mechanics to them; take the medical system, for example. Different blood types, different vitamins, different medications and chemicals to solve various issues. All of these things require some knowledge to use and be successful with. Now, DayZ has taken a lot of flak from certain people about things like this being unnecessarily unrealistic. While I see where these complaints are coming from, I really hope that DayZ continues in this direction, making all things just as complicated as giving the right blood to the right person. As DayZ has no "class, role, or skill" systems, it is things like the medical system that make true "classes". The complex medical system brings the need to have somebody experienced in this field, a "medic". To be successful you must try different solutions to issues, and actually learn what makes things work. As you succeed and fail at different things, you become specialized in certain areas of the game. I really hope to see these complex systems continue to develop with everything in the game. Vehicles, for example. I really hope that they require not only the necessary parts to fix, but the skill and knowledge of how to use these parts to get something working. You need to know which part goes where, how to tune this dial, how much oil to put in here, etc... Eventually we might see forum posts popping up like "Looking for a medic, mechanic, navigator, sniper, pilot etc..." On a side note, perhaps to accompany these systems, there could be certain books that act as skill books, but actually teach you how to do something. Most books in game now are just novels, poems, and other literature, but imagine if you could find a book that told you all about blood types, or how to fix a small car. What do you think? Is DayZ too realistic? Should it just be a loot & shoot? Or should it be an apocalypse simulator?

A trader or two would be cool but they should sell more reasonable things like maybe food or aid nothing like guns and ammo or high powered military vehicles. Just survival stuff for living that doesn't involve ammo.
  5. New additions: (Speak to server owner: ConradtheNomad , with any issues you find or post them here). - Locked Vehicles will not take damage (players exploiting this for cheats will be banned). Personally for me there's nothing worse than logging in to find that some douche has found your base and blown up your vehicles while you were offline. I'd still highly recommend buying a safe to store your valuables though, and bases are NOT indestructible, still :P - ESP for Tagged Friends: You can now tag a player as friendly and see their location on your map, you will also get a nametag (ESP style) when playing in 3rd or 1st person. This will make it easier to keep track of your comrades and avoid shooting the wrong person during a clan war for example. - EVAC Heli: See previous post. We will be increasing the cost of building these to 3 briefcases in the next few days. TO BE ADDED: - We will have web stats up and running by Monday. This will be a scoreboard with most zed kills, most bandit kills etc.. We won't be including anything else, so don't worry this isn't like the other stat sites that let people see what gear you've got etc.

Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.

Wow. You went full retard with this post. Never go full retard bro. Content, as in crafting, scavenging, base building, persistent objects, player economy... you know all the things that make a game a fucking game? SA has none of those things. The MOD (particularity EPOCH) has all of them. Helicopters and vehicles in general are not content... they are items. SA has a ton of items, worthless items with nothing to do with them. The content comes from repairing, building, re-fueling vehicles... that is CONTENT. The infrastructure surrounding an item

Please do go back to Battlefield or maybe try something more challenging for once i.e Arma 3. Military vehicles do not belong in a survival game. Unless the entire map is literally an abandoned military complex with unlocked vehicles everywhere, they have no place in the game. People played on those servers because people like you look for the easy experience so obviously you want to flock to the servers where you're instantly rewarded with DMR + gear and there's about 50,000 vehicles everywhere. People do play on the hardcore servers, just because you might be too ADHD to handle the travelling/quiet periods doesn't mean you should generalize the entire community like that.

    The TANK Thread

I say put them in.... there is a reason EPOCH is the most popular most played MOD. Tanks/Heli's/Military loot will be in game sooner or later anyway when they start allowing private mod servers. Its going to be funny listening to the vocal minority cry about it just like they cried about the empty 1pp only servers..... "all the servers with vehicles and mil spec loot are full, no one ever plays on our hardcore nothing to do servers... they need to make everyone play ours servers"

    Castles no more?

I agree, even with no real changes to the castles or the area around them, we will see more action at them again someday. Right now, there just aren't enough people in a server and there's a complete lack of motivation to visit them. Newer players likely don't know they exist, and three of the five you kind of have to go out of your way to get to (Devil's and Black Mountain can be seen from a distance and attract your attention). Once there are vehicles, traveling will be less of a chore and people will be more prone to exploring I think. They will want to see what they've been missing. I also foresee castles being a great place to setup camp once that's a possibility.

Exactly my feelings. The Vehicles and base building/hunting/raiding MADE the whole experience.

Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.

you do realize that the mod has loot tables tuned for gameplay, while in standalone the devs throw items at player in obscencely overabundant amounts for testing purposes? seems you dont. i agree though that the mod is an enjoyable experience to have, as long as you stick to vanilla and dont go onto that "100000 vehicles, spawn with GPS and DMR" private hives or that disneyland epoch mod

If everyone were a good guy this wouldn't be dayZ. it would be an pure RPG. im sorry but if they put any effort into the audio you should have more then amble time to hide in a house from a tank before it even know your there. (you should hear it long before it can see you). with that said the extremely rare ammo means PvPers wont want to waste it blasting random houses in hoes that "maybe hes in that one" but rather use it for killing other groups' vehicles in squad fights.
  13. IF they were to add tanks and armored vehicles I would prefer they remain to the faction specifics that Cherno operated in ArmA II. This includes BRDM2, BMP2 ZSU 23-4 Shilka, Ural truck variants, UAZ, and T-72 among a few.

    The TANK Thread

Well they could add even spaceship, if they wanted, does not mean it would do game any good. I freely confess I did not read the whole 1st post, but I dislike the idea of tanks in the game. Even if one could realisticly find a tank, even if it is easier to drive a tank then fly a heli, it would pose a bigger gameplay issues having armed tanks or APC's roaming around. Surely then one would request having RPG's and .50 cals back in the game, in order to protect himself from armored vehicles, and before you know, the whole DayZ would turn into some Wasteland with zombies. Regarding being able to weld metal plates to cars, that idea I kinda like.
  15. xalienax

    The TANK Thread

I think thier viable, and tbh are much more interesting of a mechanic. I know some would like just bare bones but i like diversity. I think the idea of someone cutting metal from old buildings or vehicles and welding makeshift armor to a flatbed truck much more likely then the average civilian mainting say.. a huey with its turbojet engine

    The TANK Thread

THE TANK THREAD Okay, I know someone is reading the title and going 'Is this guy looney?' but please, please atleast have a read before making rude comments. Im convinced that i can cook up a way that we can have a few AWESOME vehicles that are worth an ENOURMOUS amount of work to acuire and maintain, and still not destroy the rest of the game. So, Why tanks? Why not an attack chopper or Mini-gun toating Blackhawk? Well Simply put i think that the TANK inherently due to its big, loud, slow nature mean that the ill prepared will have time to avoid it, and those cunning enough to ambush it in a strategic chokepoint could disable it with improvised explosives. Unlike a heli which will still allow you to have a "god view" of everything below, the tank will force you to still traverse hills, valleys, woods, and other vision obscuring terrain, albiet in a virtual rolling fortress. So, the candidates: Exhibit A: Militia Imporvised APC This beast is made by welding a box of heavy metal plating onto a large comercial duty truck. the excees weight high on the body and wheeled design make it poor off road compared to tracked options, but readily avilable parts are a plus. Exhibit B: T-55 Main Battle Tank A true monster, this relic of the cold war is still often found in poorer countries, tho it is being widely replace by T-72 and later varients. It uses a Simple water-cooled diesel engine, and doesnt feature any truly advanced tech. Repair by an experienced mechanic given time and enough manpower; Plausible. On the downside its rather slow, extremely loud, and has limited crew capacity for all the trouble put into repairing it. Exhibit 3: BMP-2 APC Another hold-over from the cold-war era that continues to see wide service, this versatile baby sees a wide array of gear fitted to it depending on what nation it's serving. The engine and transmission tho rugged are notoriously difficult to deal with in the field shoudl something go wrong. this would probably be the hardest of the 3 options for the average mechanic to fix up, but given you could find smeone with the knowedge, manpower, and time this tille honey would be a godsend in the apocalypse. it features tracked drive train, excelent on and off road performance (for a tank), and can accomidate a sizeable amount of people in the back. it lacks the fire power of the T55 -or ease of repair/construction of the Improvised option, but provides amazing protection, offense, and flexibility. Reparring/Improvising Armored vehicles > All would require Welding eqipment (which it's self would need in turn either a generator or fuel tanks for the torch) > Metal Plating could be "cut" from vehicle wrecks around the worls with the cutting torch. this would be a rather noisey, smokey process likely to draw atention of both players and infected. > All vehicles here (or some vairent of them) use diesel engines, as such "engine parts" will surfice for game play reasons. well just have to asume they were modified to fit? > Tank Ammo will come in SINGLE ROUNDS. extremely rare spawn, requing you to carr the large cartridge "IN hands" to the tank or storage. this means you cant defend your self AT ALL while carrying a round of ammo for it. looting and recovering the ammo pretty much mandates a group effort. rarity mandates that weeks of looting High-Value military spawns like NWAF may turn up 5-7 main gun rounds. > Wheeled options use standard truck wheels for simplicity of development > Tank Track segments found at Military bases moderately rare. Must be "team" carried by 2 people due to weight, or dragged. Driving/Operating Mechanics > Improvised APCs would have gun ports allowing pasengers to "shoot out" perhaps even drop grenades or improvised explosives out as you drive. > Proper tanks that were repaired will feature stabilised turrets and magnified optics for the gunner, however do to this being the apocalypse the electrinic targeting systems had to be bypassed meading you will have to range and lead your target manually. (for the sake of story mcgyver mechanic guy bypassed the electronic systems which were byon hope of repair to make the guns atleast functional) > Like in the ACE mod, you cannot swap between seats in the tank that would not be possible IRL. (EG. driver would have to get our, and walk up to the right side of the T55 and climb inot the turret to switch to gunner) this forces teamwork to operate them. > Improvised APCs with wheels are vulnerable to having wheels shot out, ones built on tracked construction or farm equipement (like bulldozers) are not, but much much slower. > Perhaps restrict crew and driver to internal view? this opens up the posibility for the clever lone wolf to ge close enough with an improvise explosive or incendary of some kind. I genuinely think that a combination of extreme raritly of ammo, Extreme amount of time and effort involved in reparing or preparing these, And the fact they they will be lubering beasts that draw tons of atention to you long before you can ever see any would be victims, make them fairly balanced in a gameplay sense. The eastern block/Col-War era hardware also would be right at home in a colapsed post-soviet nation. (where it makes sence that a few of these would have been in the native motorpool or reserves)
  17. Server crashes: Objects stay due to persistence. Shut down: This is a subject many people don't understand as how user made objects are saved onto the server. From an Arma 2 standpoint, the server uses a file from the hosting PC that basically depicts what is in the actual map. It contains buildings, loot, vehicles...basically everything that makes a map. That file is constantly changing. Whenever someone builds, say, a cinderblock wall in DayZ Epoch, it gets saved into that file. So, back to the main point, if the server shuts down, the host will still have that file and everything that was placed or built onto the map will still technically be there.

    Parachuting...

well dont know about australian paratroopers but I have 32 jumps out of hueys and chinooks and another 30 out of fixed wing.granted they were hollywood jumps. Combat limits on altitude is 600ft. Peace time altitude is 800ft. its possible to jump from 500ft This along with 52 hours flight time, Personally I think the maintenance on air vehicles would be prohibitively monumental. what is it, 20 hours of maintenance for each hour flown.
  20. I personally would like to see bicycles added to the game - vehicles would need capable mechanics to make them works and keep them working - a bicycle however gives you unlimited fuel as long as your fed and watered you can go anywhere :) As soon as cars/boats/helicopters get added then this will cease to be a zombie apocalypse and become the same as any other mod/game....
  21. Walking sucks, but i CAN wait for vehicles because in the current state of playermentality, i think as soon as Helis/Cars are implemented that by the moment someone sees your heli it will be under heavy fire.. And not like in the mod, where it was more like: "please don´t see me" First there must be more to for the players ingame so there is not that much of pvp/kos ongoing Then, hell yes.. modding..?!? How about stanalone epoch namalsk with vehicles,perma-contruction, banks and of course LESS loot. The only thing that bugs me about the current stateis, that there are close to no "help-i-am-gonna-diiie" tension moments. Just waaay too much ammo & too much food With less ammo, we wouldn´t have so much coastal-bambi-killing-rambo-kiddies +some groups would think twice before shooting/kos´ing unknowns Also i would love the dev´s to work on shivering beeing implemented so you would need to stay inside a building if outside for long in cold or make a fire, to not die. Now THAT would be survival i like. Vehicles/Helis: Yes More Loot ? .. Hell ,No!!111111 Just my 2 cents
  22. xalienax

    Please, say NO to helicopters.

i see dayZ as a struggle between the groups on a server. hoarding a natural extension of that. vehicles raise the stakes thats all.
  23. I say no. The map is big, but even bicycles will make traversing the map a mere matter of minutes. If vehicles were somehow "locked" to roadways only, then I could agree with this post.
  24. How about stick epoch abomination where the sun dont shine i want to play Dayz not bloody epoch. Epoch did add some cool things but over all IMHO it was the worst Dayz spin off ever buying shit from NPCs in a bloody apoch what the who the fuck wants metal bars when your trying to survive pure garbage so was the idea of having to much military vehicles. If you want to play with that much stuff play arma, I am not against helicopters civilian ones as the devs said they were going to put in specially if they follow there original plan of using the take on helicopters flight model. Why because 95% of the players will not be able to bloody fly the things not for a long time( well unless they buy TOH to practice flying) in that it would be authentic. You know epoch mod is still running and popular why dont you go play it..
  25. FrostDMG

    Please, say NO to helicopters.

??? You're the one referring to epoch and not even the vanilla game. I'm talking legit vehicles not spawned in via scripts.
