    How the end game should look.

    I haven't seen any of those threads about zombies being too difficult/numerous or food being scarce (pretty much the contrary). I have seen threads asking for more weapons (civ and mil grade) wich I'm fine with. The game you describe imho would be BORING when u say at it's endgame you should be lucky to have a crossbow, so the mid game is just punching through zombies? and... I agree the ammo spawns are all over the place and it is relatively easy to find gun+bullets but in the end we are always using the same guns: SKS and Mosin for civillian weaponry since the mags for the rest of the other weapons are hard to come by. There are so many guns and so many magazines and that much ammunition because there isn't just content variety. If they add more weapons it would actually be harder because the chances for you to find the correct ammunition/magazines/attatchments would be reduced QUITE A LOT if they add like 10 weapons or so. 1- Zombies are EASY, they are just buggy. 2- Zombies aren't numerous, they just spawn with instant aggro. In the game's current state there are very few zombies. 3- The main "WANNABE" focus of this game is survival but PvP will ALWAYS, NO MATTER WHAT, BE THE REAL FOCUS. 4- Making loot super scarce will only encourage KOS as if you are starving and you see another survivor you would think "oh well maybe I can eat his flesh" or maybe "oh well maybe he has a can of beans I can eat let's kill him". Let's be honest. The endgame of DayZ atm is finding a mag for your engraved m1911 or all the attatchments for your M4/FNX. How should it be in my opinion? The weaponry loot should remain more or less the same, with a wider variety it would be way more exciting and hard to come by the right attatchments/ammo for your gun. Food? Food spawn should be reduced by at least half. You have crops, hunting, plant/fruit harvesting etc etc. Drinking at wells should be a risk because of infections. Safe ways to drink would be with the ingame purification tablets and from canned drinks. Weapons should inflict MUCH more damage to other geared survivors. I said geared because if you shoot a naked civilian he will drop almost instantly with any weapon. If the survivor is geared, the bullet will go through more layers of clothing/attatchments and the incoming damage is way too low at the moment. Items absorb too much damage... Expanded medicine with removal of low velocity bullets or else infection leading to "sick" state and death. Morphine/splint being less effective. If your leg is broken and you heal it with splint/morphine there should be a new animation, slower than running, maybe at the same speed of walking. For fun gameplay reasons, no1 wants to stand still for 1h waiting for their limbs to heal... Vehicles should be the next big factor coming into endgame. Vehicles shouldn't be hard to come by but repairing them has to be really hard. Back on the mod you would carry the wheels on your backpack, I propose for them being carried on your hands one by one and they shouldn't spawn all over the place. Same with all other repairing materials such as engine or windscreen. Basebuilding shouldn't go Epoch style, more like underground stashes, barricading, simple walls, deer-stand-like towers and it's pushing it. Making the gasmask a requirement for certain underground caves where very good loot is located and these caves are flooding with bandits/zombies.

    Good Questions. I would think the vehicles will behave similar to the mod but more refined and tighter controls/physics.
  3. Hi guys, so I saw in the latest status update that vehicles are being worked on. My question is, how will the physics and such work on these? Will it be GTA like where I can drift and hit jumps and be fine, or more like if I hit a tree going a bit too fast I will die type of deal? I personally would prefer a mix of the 2, a car wreck should obviously hurt/kill you but you should also be able to take some damage and hit some stuff and be fine. Also, how many different types of vehicles do they plan on having? 5? 20? 100? How hard will it be to get a vehicle running? Obviously a heli or small plane should be harder to get running/drive then a small car, but what will be required for these types of things? Any feedback about these questions or vehicles in general is appreciated, Ive looked around and havnt found too much info but anything you guys can provide is appreciated. Thanks, and please don't post anything unhelpful or just plain stupid.

    How the end game should look.

    Zombies should absolutely not be priority number one, player interaction is one of the biggest things that drives DayZ, and it shouldn't be all "everyone is forced to work together because of how difficult the game is." They could definitely use fleshing out and improvement, and a higher degree of difficulty, but not the primary threat 24/7. Also, "advanced" weapons like the M4A1 or AK-101, vehicles (in general), and all sorts of other gear make this idea moot. Why is any of it ingame if even finding simple hunting rifles will truly feel like a miracle? Do you really think they'll just remove all of that stuff from the game, except for maybe a few basic things like the AKM, which would be like finding El Dorado? (On another note, the crossbow is actually fairly advanced, being that it is essentially a 1 hit kill, you can re-use bolts, and it has a number of optics. I wouldn't mind it being fairly rare, with most bow-type weapons being crafted) They need to be more of a threat, but trying to make them the sole primary danger, to the point that hostile interaction with other players is almost nonexistent, is not a good idea. DayZ styled gameplay can work without zombies just fine. They're a pretty big part of the game, and it is called "DayZ" after all, but that doesn't mean we need to throw zombies to the front.

    I agree what your saying, but what the developers reiterate all the time is that the reason they have early access alpha is primarily for testing. To list a few reasons why loot is so abundant: - For testing purposes. - To test the spawn locations of loot. - To test the amount loot spawns and how it effects the server. - To test if the loot is spawned correctly. - For the weapons - To test the impact on the server. - To test new features of different weapons. I hope you realize I used the word "test" quite a bit. What you see now is all for testing purposes and not what you'll see end game. Like many people say it's Alpha. Lol To address the zombies: - Many work in-progress. - Zombie AI - Zombie Spawn/Amount of Spawn (Rocket did say in an interview he wanted 10k zombies on the map) Hopefully we see this feature in the near future. - Zombie Navmesh (Pretty much completed) - Zombie Animations (Work in progress and is one of the reasons zombie clips) The zombie animations you see in-game are place holders. - Net Code (Work in progress) They are optimizing and working to get less dsync and lag. - Server/Client 64-bit versions (Still work in-progress) Once these are out it'll open a lot of possibilities as in large zombie spawns. - Collision Detection (Work in progress) They are still working on the animations and the collision detection system so zombies can detect when they collide with a physical object. Once the zombie issues are addressed and implemented we'll see lots of zombies. Once many of the planned features are implemented it'll be more about survival than it is about pvp. It's only like it is now with the pvp because there isn't anything else to do. And to end I'll quote myself from another post: "It's like that now, but when they start to implement more pve features it'll force people to work together. For instance increased zombies, smarter zombies, base building, vehicles, etc...For now there is KOS, but it'll improve over time. But in my experience I've never ran into KOS. Most people I meet are nice and I help them with food and water and vice versa. Try to go into servers that says pve or doesn't have pvp in the servername.   6. So, I have read so many threads about how there are too many zombies/zombies too stronk/ect or how there should be more military/civilian weapons. I like to think that the end game should be about purely surviving. You should have to struggle to find ANYTHING. Picture Yourself struggling to find food to ease a grumbling stomach, due to fear of entering a city/town because of ZOMBIES. People are getting to focused on loot, vehicles, and pvp. Its suppose to be a zombie survival simulator. The realism in this game so far is uncanny and I love it, but, right now its not quite what I feel it should be about. I read someones post just a minute ago about how they were overwhelmed with zombies and soon died. Imagine that! Death from being attacked by so many zombies. One after the other, they should make you run for your life and try to find safety. Screw the PvP aspect, sure it will be a part of the game but the biggest fear should be to go anywhere there might even be zombies. Like on the walking dead for instance. When they went to the city in the beginning and there where hoards and hoards of zombies. They had to try and think of a way to get out of their situation. Imagine you were stuck in some building with nothing but a crowbar or some shit and you had to figure out how you were going to survive. Right now the direction its going is pretty much a endless cycle of, avoid small amounts of zombies and get a full kit. Loot is so abundant its ridiculous. You should be lucky to find even a fucking crossbow. Ammo should be so scarce you should have to reconsider using it on someone else. Heli crash-sites, military this, high cap vest that. You should be thankful for the fucking shirt you start off with!

    Taking shoes off < Base Building, vehicles, trading posts, ect ect ect... SA will eventually surpass the mod with features (at least I hope..), but the amount of time required to achieve this point is almost laughable...

    The officaial reason is that they don't just want to put vehicles into the game just to have them as soon as possible. They want to make a complete system around them and to make sure everything is working properly. This just needs a lot of development because of the many new parts and functionalities that need to be added.

    How to stop server hopping.

    I read your post mainly as "I hop myself and gear up that way, we lack transportation and it sucks. All that running around does not seem appealing to me, especially when you go somewhere and it is already looted." DayZ will always be a running simulator that will never change, are you sure the game itself is even appealing to you? Somehow it sound like you can only bear the game because you can expoit the loot spawn system by hopping servers. Moving through the map while trying to survive (not talking about food, but REALLY making sure that you are not killed on the way) is boring. Also playing not geared or "half geared" not having the most powerful weapon is not appealing, because otherwise you would probably just play and not hop any more. You will not (at least not on the public vanilla hive) spawn just 50 meters next to a functional car that is just waiting there for you. If you and your clan or whatever have a base and vehicles and someone picks you up, good for you. But I don't know exactly how you think this will work even in such cases, will you just drive your car up to the nwaf ATC, jump out, everyone just sprints in a different direction, you loot the whole airfield in 3 minutes and then drive to Balota instead of hopping to the next nwaf as it is done currently? Unless you play on totally empty servers, I don't think that will work so great. For me carefully doing a whole nwaf run takes longer than running there in the first place, and I don't do it mainly for loot, I hope/fear to get good fights there - also a way to get loot btw. I expect to have weapons (and no, you don't need a fully pimped M4 all the time) long before having cars. No idea how long fuel will last, but maybe I will sometimes hunt around gas stations in the future... . I see vehicles as a luxury that will most likely reduce your life expectancy quite a bit if you just speed through Chernarus all day. But maybe I am wrong and ppl will drive around in jeeps hunting others like the drunk kangoroo hunters in Crocodile Dundee. Maybe you will be your groups designated driver, but stay clear of the beer then. Somehow I think there are different types of players, two polar opposites being those who spawn and play the game and those who spawn, run to a high loot area, hop until they are geared (whatever that means) and then play the game all the while having destroyed the loot balance on the last 5 servers they visited. I killed ppl who had enough gear for a whole family, well, admittedly "only" two rifles, but everything else. One had 10+ gorka pants all full of stuff and he was still hopping the nwaf, logged in just 50 meters south of the hangars. In the end I just took 5 or 6 of his pants and ran for it, looting at the airstrip there for longer did not seem smart. He had 5 or 6 canteens, food for weeks, 4 full ammo boxes, 4 AK scopes. ... and that was only half of it, as I said, I left half the pants there. Yes, play style should not be influenced, do whatever you want. It's an extreme example, but just how many nwafs did that guy clear of military loot? And yes, he could only take 2 rilfes, he had "only" a few vests, but still. What about the idiot (like me) that just ran there through the whole map? Probably somewhere here on the forum complaining that scopes and ammo don't spawn at military areas any more... . What is this? Which one of the ideas on the last 6 pages, or all? Can't be all, you would have written "these" then... Private slices/hives are exactly not what is discussed here. Everyone is aware that private slices with only one server (a private hive, I guess that is how they will implement them) will have no server hoppers. It's fine if that is a solution for you, but I want to stay in the public hive, and the reasons for that are again a complete different discussion and there is no reason to discuss them here. And btw, if your argument is private hive, why not propose a server switch penalty of 5 hours? That would be less limiting than private hives and surely also discourage loot hoppers. That is a terrible idea, but still better than private hives in the sense that at least you can still switch servers... . EDIT: I'm getting aggitated and frustrated again resulting in monster-posts...

    Just finished playing on a 49 server. It was pretty great. Vehicles, planes, loot respawning, zombies no longer clip through walls and melee works perfectly fine now. Hope it will get pushed to stable.

    Xbox 360 GlovePIE 0.45 Script

    I was on of the peasants who while the game supported the xbox360 controller used its limited functionality with a xpadder profile loaded over the top to put 90% of the games functions onto the controller (everything except the hand gestures which id just use the KB for.) i found it quite relaxing playing in my leather recliner with controller in hand wireless KB next to me playing on my 65 inch led tv, was nice even being able to use the xbox headset to communicate with was almost as good as my 190 dollar pc headset lol which is not wireless hence back to the monitor for me. since its removal i have put my pc back in the study and connected back to my monitor lol i can play the game with either controller or KB seeing its not really a twitch shooter you dont really loose to much playing with a controller( plus when vehicles come in the controller is much better for driving and flying helicopters) generally the person who sees the player first wins if there is a gun fight so unless thats at cqb the controller did alright (and certainly was more comfortable for long runs in the wilderness.. Might give this a try (does the movement work as it use to with the games profile that the stick controlled the speed of your movement as in slight tilt forward walk tilt further jog full way forward run ?

    Improvised leather pack to keep me light and avoid hoarding. I think once vehicles and base building are implemented, the mountain backpacks will become a necessity

    True in most cases running from town to town is more exciting and in many cases more advised so your not detected from other players while looting but being how they will make fully working cars a rarity it shouldn't ruin the game completely. Now yes you will have the server group or clan who has a stock pile of vehicles and roam around causing havoc but they can't lock them and you can see them coming from a ways away so either wait till they leave the car or set an ambush and their car is yours. It should make game play a little more interesting in my eyes and I personally hate running from east to west all the time but really thats all I'd ever need my vehicle for is accross the map transport and then its on foot from there.

    As you have stated, there is very little impact on a MySQL database. It would take a LOT of servers to need a substantial DB server. The transactions are very small amounts of data. Moving lots of small amounts of data is like serving a busy web page. It doesn't take a lot of horsepower to do this. When you are file serving, it's a different story. You need a good CDN set up to handle the load. I already have the infrastructure and bandwidth needed to host a public DB for DayZ Mod, however, it's not as simple as allowing multiple servers to access your DB. It has to be configured differently so there is a separate DB or at least separate table for all player data that will be persistent for all the different servers accessing the public hive. Second, each server that is whitelisted to the public hive need their own separate DB to be created so that vehicles, etc specific to their server is persistent. With all of that comes the need to have scripts to handle the cleanup off all the independent servers attached to the Public DB as well as cleanup scripts for the player database. The database structure for running private hive servers will not work out of the box for running a public hive setup. It will take a bit of customization for setup and maintenance and the IOPS needed to support this will greatly depend on how many servers will be connecting to it. For starters, I think it is safe to say that there will only be a very few servers making use of a public hive database. A lot of this will depend on if and when the server files for DayZ SA become available.

    1. People desperately wanted the map more fleshed out and were always saying how barren it was. 2. Most have wanted tents since release of alpha ..did you see how mad the servers went the first minute they were up when tents were first announced ? They are a huge part of the game and always have been whether you use them or look for them. 3. Ditto vehicles, they are a major draw for at least half or at worst a large chunk of the community. 4. My opinion is that Rocket has been pretty transparent the whole way through from mod until now, warts and all. He has always said it may all come crashing down and that it is what it is. I don't know how that translates into your statement of him believing his own hype.

    for my money OP makes some valid points, in no other industry would the creative mind behind an idea be put in full charge of overseeing its development through to market, play a role sure, sort of like an advisor to the project lead, or as mentioned before the idea is taken out of his hands altogether and given to professionals to make the vision reality. Lets all wake up here shall we, eh? fanboys and haters just cool yer jets and look at this objectively, the towns example the OP makes is also spot on, how many more crappy little identi-towns they gonna put in at the expense of wilderness? What use will tents be if you're never more than 2 minutes from a town? what use will vehicles be? perhaps that's the point. i think rocket believed his own hype and is now out of his depth and it's showing, it was never the map that needed work, it was the engine and the zombies and the lag and the performance issues and the glitches and loot cycles.... and all we get is towns, lots and lots of towns. Is rocket really the best person in the gaming industry to take this project forwards? is he even the best at Bohemia? I very seriously doubt that.

    You are right, they are in every movie out there, well except The Road and A Boy and His Dog that I can think of. No survival would not go out the window. I do love the running from place to place in this game. It’s quiet and gives you a sense of the population having been drastically reduced, plus it ramps up the excitement of running into players. I just see cars and a group of people controlling the entire map and it making it impossible to play as a nomad and force you to have top military gear just to be able to keep up. Not everyone wants a machine gun :P . My gripe comes from a pre conceived notion of fear that the game will be ruined is all. I do see the positive side of vehicles, fixing them up, trying to protect them, and being able to transport a ton of stuff. But I’m sure once they are in the game I will say to myself, how did I get along without them :D

When speaking of ammo I see the chance of the following cartridges to be added: .308 Winchester - Splitting 7.62mm was said to be planned and I think it will come at this name to better avoid confusion with 7.62x54mmR and 7.62x39mm rounds. It opens up the possibilties for several western weapons (both military and civilian) and allows for two strains of full power rifles which leads to reduced competition and thus more usability without making the a single kind of ammunition too prevalent..50 BMG or 12.7x108mm - Those cartridges have the advantage that they can be used for both HMGs and AMRs in contrast to more specialized rounds like the .338 Lapua Magnum. Now for the big guns competition is wanted and the ammo should be sparse anyways so it makes sense to concentrate on a single kind and have some additional competition. So if one of those two is added the probability of the other being ingame as well should drop close to zero.9x39mm - Allows for some special guns, now its a little less likely to be added but might work as a rare gun/rare ammo combination and here it has the advanatge of allowing for multiple weapons each of which is plausible to find in Chernarus, Now that does not mean they are likely to find as they are mainly special forces equipment. But if there was a "special cartridge" to be added I would bet on this.5.45x39mm - Same argument as for .308 Winchester but a little weaker. It allows two strains of small caliber assault rifles and LMGs with potential civilian models as well - however this cartridge is more limited and mostly found on AK platforms. Now AK platforms are highly plausible in Chernarus but I am not sure if it really benefits gameplay to add it or if its more healthy to pass on the RPK-74 and further AK-74 variants and stick with/expand on 5.56mm NATO.40mm grenades - There are some pictures that suggest they are coming, now its not quite clear if only one type or multiple types. Probably multiple types that are very rare so you need to find both the launcher and the right type of grenade. At the rarity level I expect them to be there won't be that much effect of competition as finding the luncher should be hard enough. Now the RPG-7 falls under this and I think its very likely we will see this weapon at some point (probably when the bigger vehicles are about to enter the game).I expect the chances for having other other types of ammo added to be pretty slim (save for some kinds of explosives). With the types above there are simply enough options to add a similar and plausible variant or weapon that uses existing ammo - with the notable exception of hand-cannons but thats a pretty specialized and overrated weapon category that might not be added at all (we are in a former Soviet state and not in Texas) - I think thats why Alexei decided not to add them in the first place. Now I could be wrong but in the end adding too many cartridges would cause either extensive search to find any matching rounds or ammo being way to abundant once you found the right weapon because of low competition. That does not mean "stop suggesting other weapons" but rather "keep in mind they will probably switch to similar designs".
  22. hi i started a server because i was getting annoyed with the PAY to win , donation loadouts and so on i wanted a real survival kinda server to play on but seems they are hard to find so i decided to start my own and see what can happen donations or not i will keep the server up since i feel alot of people will enjoy playing here , its a great place for new players also .. there is no admin abuse the new spawn loadout i thought would be something a survival kit would seem to look like you get a small backpack, 1 can of food , 1 soda , pain killers morphine pen 2 gold a map , knife, toolbox, matches , hatchet and a compus.. im still adding more things like weapons at traders .. heavy arms traders, AI base with lots of things to loot and so on .. what we have now 300+ vehicles high FPS night/day with 4 hour restarts tow/lift self bb AI missions / roaming AI hemp farming with custom dealer snap building deploy bike server events with prizes and lots more things im all about the players and trying to see what would make them enjoy the game more in a real survival kinda setting so come join and give me some feed back and if you like it stay and play.. heros and bandits are welcome please join in even if its jsut to check it out and give feed back on it .. thanks Real Survival Dayz |EPOCH-Napf|300+ vehicles|HIGH FPS|AI missions-AI base|Self BB|Snap build|auto refuel|Tow/Lift|Hemp farming with dealer|Special Events and more IP: 142.4.215.209:2502 TS: ts.realsurvivaldayz.com

    The West is Wild again

    Eh, wilderness has been marginalized. I like that the western corridor of cities has been made more attractive. But, the wilderness still needs work. And I don't really see that many people out west. Once vehicles get implemented and tents are more advantageous, I suspect it'll get crowded pretty quickly.
