- It does not mean more "mindless towns", as you put it. It means putting something up there that gives us a reason to go there. - I literally could not care less where you hide your vehicles in DayZ. - Saying that we shouldn't move spawns from the coast and then in the same post saying that people will stay in the spawn areas on the coast unless we give them a reason to move is silly. This is the point. Give them a reason to move around. Encourage mobility. Don't keep spawning people in the same area and encourage them to hop servers because the spawn areas are picked bone dry. Spread people out and increase the amount of places of interest and value so that the points of interest do not become overcrowded. Like what the coast is now. - I WANT new people to be overwhelmed. I want them to be barbarians marveling at the gates of Rome for the first thirty hours of their playtime before the first tiny shred of familiarity creeps into their subconscious.

What does "fleshing out the north" mean? More mindless towns? Where are we supposed to hide our vehicles? Will you park your car in a spot where people go to loot stuff? I won't. There is hardly any wilderness left at this point. Hiding a vehicle will be an excersise in futility. The problem is not the coast spawning. I can only report from my experience in dayzero here: You spawn on the coast there aswell, but people are everywhere, in every town and every forest. It's 65 man servers. One reason might be that people avoid entering towns unless there is a high priority target in there, like a hospital, or they really need some food/drink/gun. Because entering towns means dealing with many zombies. People will stay in spawn areas unless you give them a reason to move, and since serverhopping is so convenient they can equipp themselves right where they spawn, on the coast. To me that's the whole reason this happens. As a sidenote: we currently have too many military bases, they are not contested enough. They should remove the Vybor military, pavlovo mil, the barracks from balota and the new tenttown near myshkino. Right now spawning in cherno is the jackpot, easy looting at balota. Oh and btw, dayz mod used to have total random spawns, not just coasts. It sucked imo, there is a reason why they removed it. It reduces the chances to meet your friends dramatically and new people are overwhelmed even more.

First of all thanks for checking out my thread, I hope you will give me a chance to provide an enjoyable player environment. What to expect The server is running Overpoch(Chernarus) (Now with AI missions, Plot For Life / Snap Build Pro), you do not spawn with anything other than the usual flashlight a single bandage and starter backpack. I have no plans of spawning people with guns or currency as that will ruin the entire reason for playing. Currently no bases exist due to the fact it is a brand new servermeaning all vehicles are sitting around ripe for the picking making a start fairly easy.Rules (I think the rules are pretty standard) 1. No spamming side chat (I don't mind if it's used but keep it clean and don't spam) 2. No racial insults / name calling 3. Try not to shoot on sight unless you are both equally armed/matched 4. It also would help, once vehicles are introduced, to slow down the running speed of our toons. It makes the wilderness seem so small. good luck with your crusade to save the wild places. :) -
In a real life scenario, it would make sense yes, but in a video game like this, im not really sure. As i see it, finding a vehicle to repair in DayZ, should be like finding the holy grail. Im not sure how awsome it would be to find a vehicle, if every other one was functioning, even with limited fuel, as most of them would most likely still have some left in them, in the scenario you describe. I would how ever expect, almost, that the part we need from vehicles, could be found in the abandoned ones around Chernarus. Theres no logic in making all vehicle parts spawn as loot, in piles, in workshops and garages around chernarus, some of it should be retrievable from the wrecked vehicles imho.

Devs have already stated that they wont allow people to alter the loot tables, and i think its safe to say that includes vehicles. There would be no point in making a global economy, if they wanted to give people the ability to create "1000 vehicles" servers.

I watched the last Dev stream and to be honest, I didn't like it too much. I think it's great that the devs try to be in touch with the community, I really apprechiate their effort, but I think a stream is the wrong way. Why? Basically because a stream is not "searchable" like a text document. Either you watch the whole 60+ minutes stream, or you don't. And if you don't watch it all, you miss important information. Now the thing is, 90% of what is said in there has been said 100 times before and because stupid people ask the same stupid question(s) over and over again (When will vehicles come? What vehicle will come? What color? When? Will I be able to attach a big-massacre-multi-chaingun to it?) a lot of what is said in there is... boring and important or new questions are ignored between all the flaming... Now if I'm looking for a special piece of information (e.g.: What did devs say about the current issues with doors not syncing correctly) there is no way for me to search the stream or quickjump to the point where they talk about it. Or if I forgot and want to look up something that was said in a stream weeks ago, I have no way to figure out when exactly in what stream it was. As I said, I really apprechiate how streams lets us take part in the development, but I personally would prefer a "traditional" Q&A, where the community can send in questions as plain text and the devs respond in text. (kinda like Blizzards blueposts)...

1) How do you expect a bolt to detonate a timed-fuse fragmentation grenade? Not even touching the fact that frag grenades are only really "effective" at damaging soft-skin vehicles. (And by "damaging", I really mean "shredding the occupants inside". Fragmentation shrapnel will do jack-all to stop the vehicle. 2) That.....is not how a shotgun shell works. The primer is on the rear of the shell, so to make this work, you would essentially have a shotgun shell stuck onto the front of a bolt. Zero aerodynamic properties, which means you won't be hitting anything. Also, the plastic casing will hit the target first and, most likely, crumple, directing the pressure and buckshot back away from the target. Also, buckshot has issues penetrating personal body armor. A shotgun will not be stopping any vehicles. This is similar to what I mention in #2. He uses a 9mm stuck onto a crossbow bolt. Notice what happens when the bullet hits the cinderblock? The bolt gets shot backwards towards the point of release. If he wasn't in cover, he would probably have gotten the fletchings of the bolt in his eye. Remember Newton's Third Law, kids: for every reaction, there is an equal and opposite reaction. In a firearm, the explosive force is countered by the firearm moving backwards, known as recoil. The firearm essentially absorbs the recoil (well, most of it), allowing the bullet to move forwards. In an open system (like in the video above), there was no "restraining object" to hold in the force of the explosion; the bolt and casing flew backwards. There was nothing acting on the bullet,, so it didn't really get a lot of forward velocity, and it didn't even penetrate the block. Something that a .22LR can do with ease.

By vehicle spawns they meant things like heli crashes but (static) cars instead. I've noticed a lot of cars (at least the ones that spawned stuff) seams to be missing, though I could be wrong. Vehicles won't be in for a while and when they do add them there'll be a LOT more hype and more in the patch notes than just 'vehicle spawns added'.

They added vehicles spawns but no vehicles???? i was looking forward to them so me and my crew could go on an adventure to the southern parts of the map seeing as we stick around the novo region and have slowly started migrating south but the trip seems very daunting to walk all that way.

I found an amazing DayZ Epoch Napf server I'm currently playing with my friends, We have had amazing experiences already tho we have only played aproximately a day. It's based on Napf map that is found in arma files so you don't have to download another map for this one. Helos I would hate from a realism standpoint. The likelihood of having even 1 person out of 60 even know how to start up a helicopter let alone how to pilot one is insane. Then come the gameplay reasons why choppers are a horrible idea. The way Arma renders terrain means one simple pass from a helicopter and the people piloting it know exactly where stashes, vehicles and everything else is hidden. Sticking to land vehicles would be far better for gameplay.

I've found two blackhawks in .49 and I've been searching for about 2 days. My findings have been around Zelenogorsk and today I decided to check the entire area around the city, and later proceed down to Balota and end my journey in Cherno. The first copter encounter gave me pretty sweet loot (three pristine red-dot sights and a flashbang) while my second finding almost only had damaged clothes and one 60-mag for the M4. The helis seems to be extremely rare at the moment and imo there is really no point in farming them until the spawn is increased/vehicles are released! The odds of finding a heli are just that low. But I wish everyone searching for the helis good luck! ;)

i agree with no cars or vehicles and clans needing supplys , tshirts rags sticks axe morphine you gonna get shot at team member gets dead your walking 3 hours to meet up trapped in low loot towns trying low pop servers to travel across the map ;;;; yes we need cars in each major city to just stop this even if they only last long enough to travel half the map or so lol

Hello fellow survivors. After another unsuccessful trade today, ending with my death, I wonder if it's worth to discuss about something like a safe zone which there are on the Mod-Epoch servers. In general the idea behind this is simple and can be summarized pretty fast: - The biggest aspect of this game should be surviving and teamplay. Right now surviving is easy and teamplay is not necessary unless you want to check for high traffic spots or want to be a Bandit. However, I expect this game to be more team-dependant once vehicles and possible bases are introduced, as well as various other things that might come up which make surviving harder. Following this thought, I really wish for a trading zone within DayZ SA. As it's very time consuming to get all the nice things to make surviving (or whatever playstyle you prefer) easier and considering the randomness of itemspawns and the actual luck based factor of people running by precious and rare loot, it would make the world easier if people are able to trade without worries. It's a stupid feeling if you trade with someone and always have to worry about beeing shot, no matter if the trade is successful or not. There is hardly any way to punish actual gearscammers that shoot traders for their own profit. They simply create new forum accounts, add some avatars and do a few spamposts over a few days.. once that happened you're pretty unable to see if a person is honest or not. With the introduction of a safe-zone you would be able to shut down all these nasty people and make life for people that want to socialize by trading easier. The biggest con about this idea is the idea about the place itself. How do you realize a location like that, without making it vulnerable to abuses like people hiding in there or camping the entrances on high population servers.. I'm open for idea's at this point, so feel free to contribute in any ways.

I wanted to tell that Bohemia is doing a great job for putting effort in this game. I really like this game, despite all of bugs and I think I wont regret why I paid this game. This game has so much potential and I think DayZ is getting bigger and better everytime patch comes in. But, I know, I am not playing a final version but there are some things that really annoy me. Why do we make updates when there comes other bug ( rarely some bugs from old versions arent fixed yet, but luckly they all are! ) Why dont we just fix those bugs in that patch and continue? I mean if they know bugs, why do they publish update? Can anyone help me answer those quesstions? I am really keen on knowing truth about these things. ( Yeah I watched conference and stuff, but I didnt get a good answer ) - When will we get abillity to make objects and houses? Tents are really hard to find and servers dont have perssistence. - Why dont we use Arma 3 Engine instead of rescripting whole engine again? Will it fix zombies glitching through walls? - Any ideas when will this game go after final release? Will we have a singleplayer option or something? - When are vehicles coming? In what patch can we expect them? Dean, youre doing a great job. I know that you put so much potentional in this game, and I like it! Keep up the good work, ignore all those retarted people who cant read Alpha warning and they are too much used to easy games and cant put some effort and play a hardcore game. ( Cold is going really good! I like this thing, it makes me feel more survival like Walking Dead, so now I am searching for fireplaces and etc. )

tl;dr Check out this great epoch server: ANOTHEREPOCH 85.190.164.114:2302 (german/english anotherepoch.com) Hi, I'm Tom, a german DayzMod and Epoch player. It took me a while, to find a server with the set of features I expected, nice and respectful players to call ally or enemy and friendly, competent admins. Now, after playing for about two months on anotherepoch, I try to create some attention and invite you to be part of the gamerbase from England, Finland, Germany, Nederland, Norway, Poland and many other parts of the world, to survive the zombie apocalypse. To be clear: I'm not an admin, I'm not the server owner, I get nothing out of this, other than hopefully meeting some of you in Chernarus. So, why do I enjoy the server? 1.) The need to earn your stuff -- You can't donate to get a complete base with a little bird on every restart. Cinder is expensive and chainsaws are rare. It's actually an accomplishment to build a complete base and something worth fighting for, to keep it. That said, I play as a lonewolf hero and built myself a nice and safe home without it taking forever. 2.) Bases and locked vehicles are indestructable -- If you know how to build a secure base, nobody can steal your stuff, when you are not ingame. But be careful opening your front door. It's legit to remove your plotpole and take over your base. 3.) Risk and reward -- Bash and Klen are safezones, Stary, wholesalers, hero and bandit camp, boat- and the aircraftdealer are not. You can find easy AI missions to get a few weapons but also some hard, custom generated ones, that will reward you with building materials. Btw... never fly over green mountain. The AI mission up there can easily wipe a small team and blow you out of the air in no time. 4.) Variety -- You can walk out of a treeline and find a Mi-17, half an hour later sit in an osprey, drive a fuel truck to klen to sell it, or fight over a military offroad with grenade laucher in the middle of a small town. Empty keyless vehicles reset every morning, put something in the inventory and lock it away in your base to keep it for some fun, easy or protected travel later on, or sell it to get some cinder. Most important: Traveling around the map with open eyes is rewarded. You can actually find stuff. Keeping it is another story. 5.) Community -- I've yet to see an asked question staying unanswered, or a bunch of "bandits" driving along the coast to kill freshspawns. Don't get me wrong. It's not all unicorns and rainbows. I get shot at, I get killed, there are groups that fight each other without mercy. Don't expect the admins to only pay for the server and not play. They do and most of them are bandits. But they will never abuse their admin power to hunt you down or kill you and if you beat them, it's fine. Don't fear to get banned, as long as you don't cheat or break the few rules that are common sense. 6.) Performance -- I get solid 30-35 fps in Cherno and Elektro (55-60 wilderness), where on other servers sometimes my fps drop down to 14-17. Don't ask me why... Some Key Features -- Need Plotpole to build: Yes -- Need to maintain: 30 days (unopened safes get set to 0000 after 14 days. They are even listed at anotherepoch.com/stats; sweet sweet loot) -- 3 hour restart -- Auto Refuel (fuel stations and large fuel tanks) -- Self Bloodbag -- TOW and LIFT -- salvage all parts -- Added buildings, compounts and more... This is exactly what I'm saying. Putting more military bases in the west = narrowing the area in which loot spawns, and to which players travel. If you place a military base next to Myshkino, it will only be known as one thing (that you apparently wish to discourage). It will be known as just another clusterfuck military spawn, and not as a freeform wilderness location. And by implication, putting a high-value location in the wilderness narrows the other feasible locations at which players can place hidden tents/vehicles/structures. Thereby minimizing the number of "good hiding spots" in the wilderness, making finding these spots all the more likely. No, we are not implying that there are safe areas. Which should stop you right there. I wander alone, because it's fun. DayZ doesn't force player interaction, which is great. It only becomes a problem when no player interaction is encouraged, at all (which is essentially the case now in the alpha). Yes, the two arguments are comparable. ASIDE - People act as if there's no military base in the woods, then people won't go to the woods... ever... under any circumstances. This is just categorically false/idiotic. Did you all even play the mod? The woods were wonderful locations in which people stored their tents/gear/vehicles, prompting interaction. It wasn't by virtue of a fixed high-value loot location that did this. And not to mention the real unique gameplay that could/will sprout up from a robust wilderness... like actually having utility in a base/cabin that isn't on the road to a military base. Or in having a secluded tent that people have a hard time finding. Or in having to survive off the land because canned goods are too hard to find (which is going to be the case as per developer statements).
