German military vehicle: LGS Fennek. An Easy addition to SA

As far as fuel consumption I can conform military vehicles are gas whores from experience. I never encountered a vehicle in military use that didn't need to be refueled after spending 14 hours idling, let alone on missions.

German military vehicle: LGS Fennek. An Easy addition to SA

Ordinary civilian cars aren't ambush resistant. LMGs/MMGs can deadline a fennek for involved repairs. A sustained burst on the windscreen can defeat it and expose the occupants to hazards. As well as Grenade launchers and landmines being confirmed, there is a technique for "Stacking" landmines. In Afghanistan insurgents would bury mines in a hole about one meter deep and stack anti tank and antipersonnel mines on top of each other to defeat vehicles like MATVs or MRAPs. If done correctly this could flip a Fennik, rendering it inoperable.
  3. Besides the lack of vehicles/long term persistence the SA actually arguably has more content at this point than the mod (it definitely has more items). At least, since the last time I played the mod any ways (not talking mods of the mod). Of course, vehicles and persistence are pretty big. But they're both implemented in a very basic state already.

German military vehicle: LGS Fennek. An Easy addition to SA

Now I'm not opposed to Armored Vehicles HOWEVER they are extremely hard to balance in a game like DayZ where everyone is struggling with firepower. I don't know the gas milage of one these, I know the BRDM-2 can carry upto 77 US Gallons of fuel but I don't know how quick it uses it. As far I'm aware aren't most armored vehicles created during the 1960's to 80's huge gas guzzlers? Perhaps IF they were to add a BRDM-2, one of the weakness's of this vehicle would be an extremely low Miles per gallon, meaning frequent fuel stops are required.

German military vehicle: LGS Fennek. An Easy addition to SA

Hmmm wouldn't ordinary civilian cars also fit into that category. I doubt LMGS or gpm would do anything to these armored vehicles. Also why would explosives be anywhere near common enough to even warrant being a threat to an armored vehicle. Have they discussed adding rpgs and at4s now ? I thought the loot was to remain relatively realistic.

German military vehicle: LGS Fennek. An Easy addition to SA

I'm pretty sure the ambulance vehicles weren't used as you could scroll wheel and heal at one with no cost to resources. As far as immunity. The wheels aren't bullet proof. The Fennek is known for having a good survivability rating, but isn't impervious to damage or wear and tear. Lets not forget the game's weapon's inventory isn't complete. M203s and GP-25s are confirmed and machine guns and RPGs would be a welcome addition. A good gimmick would be the Fennek's hull being highly survivable while being easily immobilized or it's windscreen broken. This way the same vehicle trades hands over and over again.

German military vehicle: LGS Fennek. An Easy addition to SA

I have to wonder why even bother with any armored vehicles ? I highly doubt they will add any weapons capable of defeating them although watching players with mosins and sporters try to take down an apc would be comical.
  8. You say it like vehicles are an unbeatable opponent. Only if there's a significant number of people riding would it be a problem. Usually you'd see two or more people riding in one I'm sure. Forget fighting them, they'll eventually bail out of it. Any time they bail to refuel or whatever and you pop the guy, what's the driver going to do? Guarantee he'll be smart and take off, but then you're uncontested for his buddy's body or take it for yourself if he's alone.

What Dean Hall didn't choose to add in was Vodniks and BRDMs... hmm: -full protection from 7.62 armour-piercing rounds -protection from anti-armour mines -1000 km road range -thermal imaging system with 20 km rangefinder People complain about GPMGs... imagine the rage if they ripped random armoured vehicles out of 2035 ArmA III  never happening. Even something a bit lower-tech and Russian/Eastern like BRDM, Vodnik, Tigr would be met with a backlash.

German military vehicle: LGS Fennek. An Easy addition to SA

Maybe you don't know. Germany is in Europe the German government is willing to provide manpower to international military endeavors such as ISAF, in fact the third largest troop contributor to ISAF after the US and UK. So if Some major crisis like the one depicted in game occurred nearby that warranted international intervention, The Bundeswehr's involvement is probable. The Fennik is resistant to IEDs, something at the Chernorussian Red Star insurgents might use often. No, you're playing the wrong game. Chernarus was a warzone that had belligerents from the US, Russian Federation and a civil war and then a zombie crisis happened. This wasn't some peaceful utopia, people were killing their neighbors and as superpowers fought in a proxy war. Military equipment is bound to be left over and a light armored scout car isn't going to break the game. This isn't a M1A2 Abrams or Mi-28. Vehicles like the soft top humvee and GAZ jeep weren't in the mod due to a restriction. ArmA 2 had a healthy amount of civilian ground vehicles and aircraft. Dean Hall chose to add them in. On top of that, this vehicle would be more restricting than the planned V3S Variants (military vehicles, mind you) as it would carry less and have worse millage.
  12. A lot of the things that get brought up aren't necessarily realistic, though. They might be realistic for some, or even the majority of people, but they're not realistic all around. You might walk into a horde of zombies just because you're drunk, but most people wouldn't. You might get depressed from eating the same food all of the time, but I know people IRL who do eat the same thing all the time. They're completely fine. You might be able to run a mile before you need to take a rest (I'm a smoker and I can run a mile in eight minutes without the adrenaline I'd be getting from being shot at or chased by zombies), but others might be able to run twenty. You might be clumsy and cut yourself on a window, others might make sure the glass is all knocked out and be very careful. Zombies can already see you through windows. If you think that houses in Chernarus should have security alarms, you're sorely mistaken. Oh, and you think that half of the map would be able to track you down and reach you before you move because you shot a gun even a single mile away? No. Just no. I could go on. There are some things I agree with you on, such as getting infected wounds (which you can, if you stitch yourself up. They just need to balance it properly so that it's a case of 'not sterilizing it = getting an infection', not 'stitching = getting an infection' but 'using rags from clothing = completely fine'). But the majority of the ideas that people put forward in the name of realism are either ridiculous, completely unnecessary or just not realistic. Damn, if you want to talk about realism, vehicles should be incredibly common and most should be in working order. It's not like a zombie apocalypse breaks all of the cars suddenly. Guns should be incredibly common. There are multiple military bases on the map, crashed military helicopters all over the place and the game is set in a place where people have guns. Ammo shouldn't be hard to find at all. I should be able to pick 50 apples from a single apple tree and hundreds of berries from one bush and fit that all in a single mountain backpack. Then I should be able to carry another mountain backpack on each arm. Food should fill me up for a lot longer than it currently does. A single boar could feed me for a week. A single chicken could feed me for a couple of days. I should be able to get a tonne of eggs from a chicken too, as well as milk from a cow. Infinite food, here I come. I should be able to get branches from trees without an axe simply by pulling on it hard enough. I should be able to light a fire with some dry leaves and some flint from the ground, but then I'd burn down the entire forest. I should never fail to find a twig on the forest floor. My axe should be able to last a hell of a lot longer than it currently does. Especially a fireaxe. My clothes shouldn't get ruined by being punched and grabbed by zombies. I might get a sleeve torn, but some needlework can patch that right up perfectly. None of the items inside should be ruined by that, either. Oh, in fact, items should only really be ruined when they're directly hit with a bullet or melee weapon - if my backpack gets shot once, the majority of stuff in it is going to be fine. Jeans should protect me from a lot of damage and be very, very durable - in real life, they've saved my legs from being shredded while coming off of mopeds. Oh, talking of needlework, sewing kits should last a hell of a lot longer - and one sewing kit should work for everything. I should be able to bury a waterproof backpack and all of the stuff inside of it should be completely safe from both the elements and any player for a fairly long time. There should be a lot more of every item of clothing. I could carry multiple rifles on my back and ten more in a duffel bag. It should take me a good minute to find a small item such as a battery in a full mountain backpack. I could have holsters on each arm, each thigh, each ankle, each shin, either side of my chest and all over my belt. All of the weapons should be a LOT more effective (take a baseball bat to the face and you're going to be fucked up - even a stomach shot can kill). The devs should set a certain amount of loot to spawn in each server once, then after that the only new items come from renewable sources (farming, trees, fishing, hunting etc). But don't kill those animals too fast or you'll depopulate the area and never see another piggy. If you die once, you're out of the game. Zombies shouldn't exist. Again, I could go on.

    Western European/American vehicles

Problem with this is that we're not in a richer area of Chernarus... the vast majority of South Zagoria where we play is agriculture focused with a decent sized industrial sector and some commerce in the larger cities (Novo, Cherno, Elektro, etc.) Most of the vehicles you'd find there would be older ones from around Eastern Europe that are only used to get the job done. That's not to say a few common Western cars would be a bad thing but I'd rather have vehicles like the UAZ-469 and whatnot first. I do think having the HMMWV in the future would be nice - there are a considerable number of wrecks around so it's quite likely Chernarus used them (Being given to them as aid by the US following the 2009 war.)
  14. Hard alcohol is an excellent thing to include in a TSC-Chernarus, as there are so many different uses for it, and because of this, it has great potential as a trade good. -medical disinfectant -water treatment -industrial processes -fuel for vehicles and generator -trade good, limited to a specific quality (150 proof moonshine is the accepted basis of exchange in Clan -X- lands. You can try to use homemade moonshine, but unless you know what you are doing, don't expect the quality to be as high and expect them to come and bust down your still for "damaging their currency) etc etc etc many other uses

    Western European/American vehicles

I for one would like to see a wealthier part of Chernarus which would have the best chance of containing western vehicles.
  16. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/168692-no-fuel-vehicles-and-moby-dick/ All kinds of similar in this old thread - from nearly a year ago to the day! What are the chances.
  17. Hello, forum. I understand there is quite the stigma against "western" items, but, I firmly believe modern euro/American vehicles have a place here. We know that DayZ is set in a time after 1999, as signs in game have proved this. Seeing as this after the fall of the Soviet Union most of us believe that Chernarus was a part of, wouldn't that mean western vehicles have been trickling in from western markets? For example, brands like Opel, Vauxhall, Ford, Chevrolet, and many others do have a place here, look at countries similar to Chernarus, such as Ukraine or Czech Republic. There are more than just Ladas and GAZ's and VAZ's and so on. Of course, it is obvious that Chernarus is a poor country. If it becomes possible to enlarge the map and add in large urban areas, These vehicles should definitely become considered. Thank you for taking the time to read this wall of text, and feel free to discuss below!

German military vehicle: LGS Fennek. An Easy addition to SA

Sigh. These kind of vehicles were in the mod before because it was derived from a military simulator, there's no need for military vehicles in a zombie apocalypse survival game. If you want to drive these vehicles, you're playing the wrong game. DayZ isn't supposed to be DayZ mod V 2.0, it's supposed to be stripped of everything that was unnecessary, and that includes most of the military stuff that was in only because it was in the base game assets.
  21. This thread will sadly not go anywhere and seeing as the vehicles are already in active development this is not a suggestion anymore. If you have any further questions / additions, But for now make sure that you get familiar with the game and the suggestions around here - as this eliminates duplicate threads.
  22. zeotrope

    Strange behavior with V3S truck

I'm not saying that sometimes (reportedly) they have been known to kill / injure those who interact with them, but I have found / driven over 20 of these brutes without issue. So 20 / 20 times makes them worthwhile to seek out and drive. But that's my experience. Perhaps lag may play a part in the related issues with these vehicles and the associated interaction with the underlying terrain. They seem to spring to life on approach as if they are reaffirming their placement in the game world. Not sure
  23. that seems a bit hypocritically hostile. Anyways, to answer OP, new land vehicles are coming 2nd-3rd quarter of this year IIRC. Including most the things you mentioned. (Nova is a bit iffy. ^_^)
  24. So the German military uses this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fennek A pretty interesting vesicle. Armored, but could appear with out offensive weapons and like most military vehicles, a bitch to maintain and keep fueled up while trading off cargo space and passengers. Add something to the game that isn't an MRAP or Humvee while giving DayZ a more interesting taste. But why the Fennek? Because the DayZ Devs could collaborate with the ArmA team and use the port/mod the existing ArmA 3 model for the "Stryder": This technique allows for a new vehicle, while taking less time compared to building a whole new object with unique values while freeing the team up for other endeavors.
  25. I can't tell if you're asking for more just static wrecked vehicles, or for more driveable ones, or what... Mind elaborating on this a bit for me? :)
