I like the idea of building forts, etc. And the implementation of vehicles. I think vehicles should spawn different places each day. This would create a balance between players access to vehicles. -

I agree with that sentiment but it's also a fact that the mod delivered an overall different experience to the player. If the adredaline is like 1 in the SA it's safe to say that mod was 10 and that's not only based in the fact that the mod was new and exciting. But why is that? Let's go back in time and reminiscence on what it meant to be a freshpawn in the mod... Melee didn't exist back then,as a freshpawn you had absolutely no way of defending yourself against bandits or zombies. I remember bitting my gut in fear not to be spoted and in the sight of an armed player,the feeling intensified tenfold. That's not the case in SA,players go YOLO on armed dudes,punching away in hopes they land a headshot and render the poor sap uncouncious. Mod bambies on the other hand,had no way of causing harm,that fact alone promoted player interaction big time. Then bandits appeared,and took advantage of the poor defensless saps to steal them dry of all their equipment. Although it should be noted,that at the time it was somekind of a taboo to shoot them as they didn't posed a threat to anyone. As melee was missing,bambies had almost no other choice but to be cooperative and that further promoted player interaction. Then heros appeared,with a mission to defend bambies from the hands of bandits. Back then it was a more than valid playstyle,as there were people to protect and bad guys to shoot. A lot of friendships flourished by that fact alone but the possibility of betrayal still existed. Betrayal back then had a far greater magnitude than what we experience in the SA version. People were geniounelly nice and nobody was faking anything,thus a betrayal was equivellant evil. That's why imo the mod was a more accurate "human nature simulator" . But that's just the tip of the iceberg,there are pleanty more reasons that contributed to the game's success. Surely you remember how it was like sneaking through a city full of "scrapped vehicles" and "junk barricades",in fear of not alerting the whole village on your presence. Or the pitch-black nights and the fear of turning your flashlight on and all those pesky NV sniper hunters. What i'm saying is that SA should expand on the things that made mod a great and unique experience. I know that's better said than done,but the game needs to introduce something fresh and new,which will make players again,look forward to their next game session. This is something that is currently missing from the SA and we can't blame it soley on the "gradual lack of interest". -

Killin Zedz, the community that brought you the KZ Survivalist Mod has now transformed all of our servers over to all new "Overpoch Wasteland" servers. What is "Overpoch Wasteland"? This is a small box that contains some items to allow you to build a small secure area to store some items to start off with. What is Overpoch Wasteland? Overpoch Wasteland is your standard Overpoch server with special customizations that have been influenced by the Wasteland mod for Arma 2. Here are some of our server features: Traders: All traders are 100% customized with all new levels and humanity based access. There are several different traders to choose from. Each restart there are two Tier I and two Tier II weapons traders that dynamically spawn around the map. They are in a different place each restart. On Takistan, there are no trader cities. Instead traders are scattered throughout the map. The trader cities on Napf and Chernarus are completely customized and designed by me. Survivor Supplies: This trader sells basic goods that every survivor needs, except for weapons and vehicles. He also deals in gems so once you are ready to buy an armored vehicle (See below), you'll be able to trade with him.Seaside Sally: Buy a fishing boat and a fishing rod and fish in Napf's and Chernarus' ocean or head north on Takistan and go fishing in the big lake! Take your catch back to shore and sell it for gold!Vehicle Parts: Vehicle parts can be purchased at any vehicle trader, including the helicopter and airplane traders.Civilian Vehicles: These unarmed vehicles are your basic mode of transportation to get you around the wastelands. Again, the high end choppers aren't cheap and will require you trading lots of briefcases for some gems. Your humanity must be at least 25000 to interact with this trader.Airplane Dealer: You can go here to buy a nice AN-2 or Cessna for a relaxing flight around Napf, or for the more adventurous and wealthy players, you can buy yourself an A-10 of maybe even an F35B. A humanity of 15000 is required to buy any planes. Bandits (AI) We are utilizing Dayz AI (DZAI). Bandits have spawn chances in every town and village on the map. In addition, there are dynamic AI. Dynamic AI may take up to 1 hour to reach their maximum chance to spawn on a player, then that chance remains there for 2 minutes. If none spawn, then their chance resets. There's a chance they will hunt the player and even call in reinforcements. Bandits can have both standard Epoch or Overwatch weapons. There's a chance that a helicopter will drop a party of 3 - 7 bandits on almost every city, town and village, so keep your eyes on the skies and watch out for airborne bandits! Bandit bases exist on all three servers and are static. Once all the bandits have been killed, they will not spawn again until server restart. Some bandit bases are protected by armed vehicles. In the NEAF on both Napf and Chernarus, you'll find an anti-air vehicle patrolling the airfield. Napf has a beefed up AI presence at the Suhrenfeld Array with two land patrols and a heli patrol. On Chernarus, bandits have taken over Fort Stary, a custom base built by me located just north of Stary Sobor. Missions I have set up Dayz Mission System (DZMS) to run several missions. Some of them are custom made and others are pretty standard missions. I've chosen the best missions for each map and made customizations for each map as well. Some have custom static missions that spawn in the same place all the time. We also run Wicked AI for it's mission system. The skills have been adjusted to match those of DZMS but these missions are a little more dangerous, with MG emplacements at all the missions! Random roadblocks also spawn around every map. This consists of several AI, an armed vehicle and H-Barriers blocking the road. They spawn in a way that if you see the roadblock, it's usually too late, so keep an eye out! Installed mods Random starting loadout. Start with a random skin, pistol, primary weapon, light source, food and drink. You also start with a map and a radio, as well as a few basic medical supplies. The weapons will be a tier 1 Epoch or Overwatch weapon.Snap building with vector building. Use the F key to snap building parts. Tilt and rotate building parts to create whatever you desire!Free maintenance. Bases are free to maintain. Just look at your plot pole and select the maintain option.Indestructable bases. Bases can not be destroyed. Walking Dead Zombies. The zedz move slowly, but they pack one hell of a punch! Stay away from them, as they can kill you in one shot.Enhanced deployment. Deploy a Mozzie or Gyrocopter using metal poles, scrap metal and more. Recover the parts when you disassemble it.Shortened day/night. A 24 hour cycle happens during a 4 hour server cycle. Combined with clear skies, the server transitions smoothly.Vehicle pointer/locator. Slammed down a few extra pints last night and can't remember where you parked your SUV? No problem! Just right click on your key and you can find it easily!View distance increasing. Use binos or range finders to increase your view distance. Right click on either and change your distance.Weapons attachments. Add and remove attachments from weapons. Right click on the weapon in your inventory for options. As of this post, this only works with Epoch weapons. The Overwatch weapons are not included.High end currency. Trade briefcases for gems, which can be used to purchased high end vehicles.Random artillery bombardments. In a town looting and suddenly hear air raid sirens? You have 3 minutes until the shelling of the town starts!Vehicles. All vehicles are available as spawned vehicles except for the high end military vehicles, airplanes and boats.Towing and lifting: Vehicles can tow vehicles depending on their size. For example, you can not tow a Ural with a sedan. Lifting is also enabled, with enhancements to Epoch's built in system, so you are required to have one player on the ground to sling load the vehicle. Locked vehicles can not be towed or lifted.Anti-Salvaging: If a vehicle is locked, it can not be salvaged.Self Bloodbag: Ok, not really a mod, just a server setting, but you can self blood bag!Deployable Mounted Guns . With a Tripod Bag and one of several mounted gun bags, you can deploy a mounted gun, such as an M2 machine gun or even a MK19 grenade launcher! When there are more choices of vehicles and even a few more houses to duck into that would help. Yes, it's not rural Los Angeles. But it is a game. And games should have things to occupy your attention with. Not just running around for hours with nothing to find or do. Not much to ask for really. -

Beef bacon , let me fill you in on why all these people are so butthurt over a crappy ,script ridden , mess of a mod ... The mod had helicopters, tanks , base building , a crap hero / bandit system that ruined immersion and free play styles , it was riddled with pvp and literally EVERYONE used global chat to TROLL (ya imagine ten retards in bright blue print yelping "gay gay gay everyone at balota is gonna die get REKT " ya you though the shit talking in SA was bad you should go experience the shitty global channel that was built into all the mods ). The mods had no sense of survival, you hardly had to eat or drink you never goT cold , hot or sick (except for crappy zombie virus) you hardly EVER had to worry about zombies because there were so many of them they would bug out and half the horde would just walk through you and get stuck somewhere in the building , eventually forgetting you were ever there .. Oh and let's talk calibers of weapons and weapons in general , you just spawned in with your trust makarov (or revolver/ hatchet depending on the mod) all you now need to do is rush the nearest firestation for an automatic weapon , sound strange? It gets stranger ... You then find an UMP-45 at the bottom floor with five magazines , you say "agh that's not my absolute fav, let's check upstairs" . You proceed upstairs to find a beautiful cZ550 hunting rifle (with many clips mind you) ... You ignore the unrealistic fact that you just found multiple firearms in a goddamn fire house and rush outside to the sound of a helicopter , you then swiftly shoot it down with the hunting rifle (this is where CALIBERS start to get weird and again unrealistic) how the FUCK did I just take down a heli with a hunting rifle ? Shot the gun through the window , he was at least 500 meters away, yet somehow my magical bullet took his ass out ... Exciting ? Yes , fun and realistic to a point of playing it all the time ? Definitely not . Another thing that's been mentioned is the base building, well I have to say it was exciting in ONE mod (dayz aftermath) but besides that it was always unrealistic, and clunky. There was no barricadin like standalone is working on , locking cars was only available in certain mods and there was no locking of buildings , oh and almost 85% of all buildings were UNEnterable ... The only reason why these people are so obsessed with the mod is because they truly aren't the type to be playing a survival game , I mean in Every one of their arguments they say that the simple UI from the mod needs to come back because they can't be bothered reading status messages (which are turning into a Toggleable UI soon) and also that the calibers and weapons are all wrong yet they are SO much more scarce than in the mod , and what weapon are you so concerned about that has unrealistic interchangeable properties ? Last I heard the mosin and blaze are using their proper ammunition now . Face it guys the mod was and still is complete crap , it was a gimmick back then because nothing compared to it but yet it still didn't live up to it's Survival name because of many many engine limitations and terrible design decisions (like keeping global chat while trying to maintain an apocalypse feel. Yu can always see little kids shit talking over global) the spawn system was so simple and easily abused , there were waaaay more cheaters , almost every server had access to their own database If they knew what they were doing so they could change their server to a 1 million vehicles high PVP server... The mod was ok but in reality all it was was a huge PVP fest with hardly any potential , I've had SO MANY more exciting moments in standalone than the mod , and I played the mod for 2 years ( and many different mods as well like I Said dayz aftermath was the ONLY mod to get close to the survival feel that standalone gives me . Long story short : don't just get nostalgic for things because you can , truly look back and see how riddled the mod was with problems In the design : too many weapons all over with too much ammo, unrealistic ballistics, vehicles too easy to find and repair , pvp far too prevalent because there's no way to damage clothes or equipment , zombies were a joke and really just annoyed you instead of making you fear them, huntin was too simple , global chat was allowed, too many bugs not being fixed and swept under the rug to this day even ... Many many more bad things and the only good things was that the game was simple enough to hunt , make a base , and have some PVP but you people got too obsessed and are now hurt over the fact standalone is finally taking away from PVP and closer to a mix of survivals and PVP ! If you haven't played the mod , well then yu are lucky to see the greatness that is dayz standalone first , because even though the mod had base building and all types of vehicles it was just a terribly designed game based off of another game that didn't suit it's needs , dayz standalone has WAYY more potential we just need to wait to get to the content the mod has and when it reaches that stage standalone will have 10 times as much content seeing as all this "extra stuff" that the OP think is a waste will be added as well. -

The mod is a bunch of scripts, based off of a game that had a proper budget and a team of devs. You act like it was made from scratch. Make all players spawn without items. Make guns spawn in certain locations. Make a simple basic needs system. Done. The standalone is far more complicated at a basic level and has the potential to be so much more. The mod got stuck in a rut, which is why you see tanks and helicopter gunships driving around. It is inseparable from Arma2. I have no problem with interchangeable ammo. I never played the mod, but didn't most guns spawn with a couple of magazines next to them? I daresay that'd soften the blow of each weapon having its own ammo type. The standalone also has fewer weapons in general. Also, complaining about text-based notifications when we know that it's probably that status icons are incoming seems... stupid. It'd be like whining that there isn't a proper sniper after seeing WiPs of the SVD. I'm not sure what it is that 'the mod had'. Nobody seems to be able to quantify it; they just say 'it was better'. Now, I understand that the mod had more vehicles and weapons but the devs have said repeatedly that new weapons and vehicles are incoming, so are the mod nostalia people just being wilfully ignorant that the game is unfinished? Probably. -

Mod was great for various reasons. But here are some things that I loved in Mod that it seems players think isn't a part of DayZ: Hero/bandit system.Mountains of glorious weapons.Mountains of glorious vehicles.UI with icons.Global chat. All of that shit was fun and when it was no longer fun I would play some "hardcore" mod like DayZero. People also say that all that shit is not a part of DayZ. Honestly, I hope someone makes a DayZ classic mod for SA. -

I feel the same way, but a big part of if for me is my best memories are pitched battles or epic helicopter duels, granted people will say I should go back to COD or BF4 because I don't care about super realism/Immersed when in a video game I play for fun. But getting a kill in a firefight, or getting a helicopter working to go on a rampage, or even just setting up a camp loading with gear feels so much more accomplishing when in a zombie apocalypse where everything and everyone wants you dead, and a constant threat of losing all you hard worked gear. Plus I was also hoping for the mod 2.0 with better optimization and that the standalone would try too hold too its simpler DayZ mod roots. I don't have a problem with hardcore/immersion theme for the standalone, other then its just not fun for me in its current state. and the mod is so overrun with epoch and 100000 vehicles other crazy stuff, Dayz just is not the same anymore either way :( So for me in the I got: Standalone = to hard to have fun because of the super realism/immersion theme the game is taking Old DayZ mod = the perfect balance of realism/fun gameplay Newer DayZ mod = realism thrown out the window to the point where its not even fun. -

I first started with the mod for over 2 years ago and then,I started playing the standalone since over a year back. It is hard to compare the both versions since the Mod has vehicles and lots of other stuffs that are still missing in the standalone version but the standalone version will have all that stuff and even more pretty soon (like hunting for example). Wether it is worth paying for the standalone version while it is still in alpha is a question I always let everyone decide for themselfs. But if you are asking me personally then I would say yes, it is worth it.

Greetings Survivors, As expected, work continues towards securing a 0.56 build for experimental branch. With the core remaining tasks being focused on closing major bugs with the systems changes core to 0.56 the design, art, and environment teams have also had time to slip some fun and interesting content into the update. Coming up next week we're looking at the audio team taking a trip out to capture new sounds for our list of 1.0 land vehicles, and this week Andrej our Audio Designer continues work on the new infected sound effects. As well on the audio front, as we move forward with 2015 - we're looking again at how we approach the volume and impact of gun shot sounds. Our aim and intent by 1.0 is for the audio side of discharging a fire arm to be a psuedo traumatic event. Gun shots should be -loud-, and your concern prior and post firing off a shot ideally would be "Who/What might have heard me?". This will be an ongoing task, but one I'm excited to see evolve. With 0.56 comes some changes to how long range optics are mounted on our hunting rifles, Assoc. Art Director Chris Torchia posted several renders and screenshots of the current status as well as went into brief detail about what we're looking at. With the original long range optic being phased out in favor of a new 12x hunting optic, with proper mounting to attach to the Winchester M70, Blaze 95, CR 527, and Sporter 22. Moving forward, the Mosin Nagant will support the PU scope only (within the basic attachments). Our Environment Lead, Senchi has been working on several changes to Chernarus + for 0.57 and on - but looking at 0.56 we'll be seeing the new Village Potraviny (Store) placed across the map, as well as a refactoring of some of the key police station locations along the coastal regions. In addition, time allowing - we will see some small changes to the iconic Stary Sobor barn location as well. Not too much to report this week as again, the team is focused primarily on prepping 0.56 for the Experimental (Unstable) Branch and later on the Stable (Main) Branch update. On the Feedback Tracker we can see that Darcion did very nice in terms of filing plenty of bugs, however, quite a bit of those were duplicates, so for this month we'll go with Zyryanoff as the bug hunter for april. I think the Dayz standalone is the better choiceeven though it requires more patience than the mods. The mods are really cool, but I've played the standalone almost equally fanatically by now. You can hunt, craft, farm, fish - all of which you cannot do the same way in the mods. Since the vehicles' been added I get around the map some more and it is bigger than the original, old map and the new additions are mostly very good. There is also a constant feed of new items being introduced with almost every update. And we have tents and military tents to store our gear. That's all the awesome stuff. However, the updates can be quite discouraging as items may not ever spawn or you get an abundance of one thing but lack of others. It's not always easy to keep on wanting to play, but the game is very playable now and a fix for the loot problems is probably in the next patch or two. Despite the occasional headaches it gives me, Dayz is still an exceptional game and one you'd want to join during its development rather than just replay as a mod. It isn't the same and the standalone can and will only get better over time. I hope more players will enjoy the game, so we can have interaction and stuff happening. That's really all it needs now: some stable economy and lots of life on the servers.

I suppose,I just like apaches,but yea I suppose it would be ridicolous having attack helicopters in this near apocalyptic plot where humans are near extinction the the vast majority of residents are zombies nor not too much assets such as weaponry or vehicles.Perhaps in a real apocalyptic world there would'nt be much supplies so yea i can see why you are saying its ridicolous -
Buddy and I decided to explore the north for tents, after he found a small one I found this monster with another tent nearby, plus vehicles, 10+ more backpacks full of ammo. Exploration can be very lucrative in this "base development" era.

Its not a default setting for vanilla, but its enabled for US 436. There are options like crosshairs, max vehicles, and many more that can be set in vanilla. I personally hope to see 436 give vets a chance to feel like bambis again, encourage cooperation, and provide an immersive hardcore survival experience where players are relieved to find other survivors. Sigh, Call of duty and battlefield feels like an arcade game, spawn and re spawn over and over repeating maps. I've played them all, great games in there own genre. I feel as you should add America's Army to that list. I do recommend those that love Dayz to really test out Arma 3. So much you can do. Do refer to what type of game you want to play as, or all. Roll playing servers, as robbers or cops, or you can play Dinosaurs, and war type games. The mods make it exciting, and experience those modders out there with experience beyond. The combat system stands by itself in Arma 3, Different mods offer different weapons, clothing, items in general. You can fly jets, or helicopters. The vehicles are awesome. Like I said the mods make it all worth while. Do experience it, because it will give you a better understanding of Dayz. Dayz has many features like mods in Arma. It was on sale, for like 50% off and a bunch of us purchased it. Myself I ended up paying like 130+ cdn and another 27 for the new marksman, dlc. I am not selling you on it, just giving you another experience game, before beta comes.
