Day Z as it should be : The Earth Abides
pilgrim* replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
Yes - sorry Schlake, I was kidding around a bit. Also I was a bit obscure and ironic, sorry. I should have been more clear. The real trick for DayZ to work, is to keep a balance between PvP tournaments and "hard" survivalist gaming, with some players interested in one end, some players interested in the other end. ATM If you want PvP you have to "survive" = bandage wounds, eat and drink, find ammo, etc, just to be able to play the military PvP clan battle game Also if you want to hunt, fish, make stuff with a flint and cowguts, you still have to protect yourself with weapons and ammo, go into town sometimes, and be ready for any bandits or PvP geared-up players turning up in a truckload or two. So the ideal would be: - At one end you could live out in the woods, make everything from scratch, and never see another player the whole game (but you might get sniped by a KoS anyway, or meet a PvP pro squad) - At the other end you could PvP as much as you like, live your whole game-life in your fave deathmatch area (but you still have to find gear and weapons and food.. and not get too wet) - AND you could if you want play your game anywhere in between those two extremes. And change your playstyle to any balance between those two, whenever you feel. The map's big enough for both, but there are a couple of problems coming up (IMO): - IMO there is too much urbanization now - all through the Mod and at the start of SA, you knew where you could find miles of wild lonely woods, and also you knew exactly where to go if you wanted a fight. It's a pity there are no longer whole BIG areas of wilderness, because if there were, then players who wanted a hard-to-find base would put it out in the real sticks and also have to move distances overland to get their dose of PvP - Players who are in the game for PvP want military weapons and clothes - this is their expectation when they joined and they get pissed off when they can't get those easily - its a "player expectation", not "a fault in the game" - this is proved by games like - well, any fantasy PvP game you care to choose - you do not NEED an M4 to PvP, you can use spears, shotguns, sledgehammers, whatever.. but players who arrive from standard CoD and deathmatch games come to DayZ with that expectation (modern military hardcore). Perhaps they've been encouraged too much (maybe?) but those players are an important voice in DayZ, there are many of them. - Players who want "survival" find it too easy to survive ATM.. so I guess they want more 'hardcore' survival. But ya know, IRL "hardcore survival" there really ain't no such thing. IRL either you can make it and stay alive where there is food, protection, and the stuff you need (IF you are smart enough and know how the locality works) or there is not what you need... if it's minus 30 degrees at night and there is no game, no plants, then you're screwed, however well trained you are as a Real Life Survivalist.(sure you can survive a night or even a week, but you cant LIVE there, no way, you will 100% die). But if you can find seeds, make shelter and scavenge in towns for food and old blankets and bits of metal to make knives etc, then you can survive ("easily") - But that is post apocalypse survival, NOT "out on the tundra alone" survival. So the survival aspects of DayZ are a little too much "nature trail" = roughing it in a pretty, non-extreme, nice environment .. and not nearly enough "post apocalypse". eg no "survivalist" in their right minds would use flints for arrowheads if they could find an old hacksaw and fix a section of sharpened factory gate iron on the end of their wooden spear. So at present for the PvP players, scarce ammo is just making them nuts and they complain, it's not the game they signed up for. And for the survivalists, woodsmen, it's not a challenge it's just a habit once you've understood the parameters of the game and how each object works... the country is not going to dustbowl on you, it's never going to be minus 12 at night, there are no forest fires, the hunting season lasts 12 months, the apple trees always have apples all year round, and the major danger to your crops is a server restart - if you can't "survive" in this sweet temperate nature-trail country it's because you haven't noticed it's all laid on for you. Where the interest comes in - is in the spread of players and how they interact - the PvP dudes and the backwoods farmers, the total-fun players and the serious "I want to stay alive" players, the TS3 ARMA-style teams and the solo hillbillies, and the "I never speak" hawkeye hunters.. The moral of all this is - the more that is provided for the whole spread the more the game will work.. "the survivors" will have to fight more and the "fighters" will have to survive more. First thing to do - obvious - is Bring in the Zombies in a BIG way... that will even out the spread across all kinds of player. It was a basis of the game. Zombies were FIRST and PvP was Second in the original concept. Everybody had to survive, and surviving meant - first off - dealing with the zombies. Ya had to deal with other players too, but everyone had to deal with the zombs all the time. Second thing is - find a way to calm down the PvP players who expect 100% a PvP modern military game, and are convinced that collecting gear is a pain. Make adjustments to move hardcore PvP towards a multi-weapon event and not just an ARMA/deathmatch faceoff in one or two small well-known areas (and do it without loosing half the player-base). Third thing is - put a whole large area of wilderness into the game (or back into the game) . This will benefit both types of players, specially with tents, bases, vehicles - and maybe helicopters - coming in. [ - just to put it on record, because I doubt this will happen: if some players wanted real "hardcore" survival, have highlands up in one corner where terrain is difficult to travel and it is always below zero at night... so it's "really" hard to survive there, but with the advantage that fewer players would turn up in that area..] Fourth thing is - move the "survival aspects" from the already good 'wilderness' survival more towards "post apocalypse" survival. Add in the hundred things a real-life survivalist would do with recovered items from the ruins of society. Just examples - you can cook up a good meal on a trashcan lid, in an old can, or on any square of metal cut from a car bonnet/roof (also you can make a stash from a buried trashcan - I've seen this IRL) - you can make knives and gutting tools out of bits of recovered metal, you can cut with broken window-glass, find grinding wheels in wrecked factories, you can use an old blanket for 50 different things from backpack to bag to stash to tent to personal cape or hideout camo - [so strange there are no blankets in Chernarus after the end of civilization, that must be the only thing you can guarantee every house on the map must have 2 or 3 or more... but there ain't any] * OK - We know that all this stuff together can only be "realistic" inside the gameplay - you can't wait in the game for 3 whole game-time months for your crop to grow, and you can't in the game take a M4 round that incapacitates you - so you can stop the bleeding but you can't fight (for a day or a month), you can only crawl maybe, because you have a fractured scull, fractured pelvis or 4 broke ribs, So realism can only be inside the terms of the game, it has to be limited to 'game realism'. Surviving in the real wild can be shit-difficult and hard work, surviving in the ruins of a civilization can be easier than that, but still not "fun". Game PvP can be real exciting, but a real life assault on an enemy position ain't nowhere near that feeling. There are truly very few people who love the sensation of engaging an armed enemy, and not many who like living on the bare ground in a forest and eating grubs either. So "game-fun" has to be a limit at both ends of the game - the PvP end and the Survival end. For game "realism" things such as having to eat every game-hour, and getting "cold", "shaking" "starving" after 15 minutes, and being able to change a magazine directly from your backpack into your gun while under fire, and ... huh.. all those things (everyone can think of plenty) those are all acceptable as game-imitations of "reality" in a game-limited way.. because ... it's a game. Many can be improved but it's always got to be a game (for fun). If people like to wear raincoats to stop themselves dying from hypothermia, and people like to have gun-sights that are always zeroed, and everyone likes to run as fast as a sprinter in shorts, with a full backpack and a weapon and a pickaxe on their back ... then ok... ATM that's acceptable.. * As for Earth Abides (a good book back in it's time) - If you look at DayZ SA you see the real breakdown of society has already happened. I dont mean "the apocalypse" I mean that most everyone exploits game weaknesses, half the public servers are kick servers - (I got a "real" Battleye notice onscreen today from a public server saying Kicked from the game because "Not on Whitelist") - hey, public server? Seems like the general attitude is 'Me first and screw the Game". That can only end one way IMO. So the society has broken down, I mean the DayZ society, not even the in-game society, where there was never any idea of "cooperation to rebuild civilisation". The players of DayZ are already moving themselves into the Last Chapter. xx pilgrim -
Day Z as it should be : The Earth Abides

Please, tell me: what are the serious consequences for death that you mention? Losing gear? -pfffftttttt- I can get all that shit back in a couple minutes, an hour tops. "Good" players don't give a shit about gear. Sure, losing a "nice" gun, or a "good" backpack is a little "aggravating", but if you think it is a "serious consequence", you haven't learned Rule #1: Don't get attached to your gear Losing Time: Meh, whatever. 'Every man must die", and whatnot. I can sprint across the map in 30 minutes tops. With several days off from work during a week, time isn't an issue. Calling it "permadeath" was a mistake from the beginning, because what the game has now is most definitely not "permadeath". What to know what permadeath might entail? Being barred from the server for a day. Not being allowed back into a public server at all. Not "respawning after a 30 second timer and running back to your gear". So, with all of that in mind, what are the "serious consequences to death" you keep on mentioning? Because all I see right now is a Deathmatch game with comically-long respawn timers. Oh, and a "survival game" doesn't just have to be about picking berries and keeping warm. One of the things I would most love to see is a complicated, drawn-out medical system. Where injuries can't be instantly healed with a dirty piece of rag. Sure, you could strap said rag around that cut, but it won't stop the bleeding right away, and you would stand a good chance of getting an infection. Knife to the arm? Strap a bandage around it, and the bleeding will slow down and stop after a few minutes. Knife to the gut? A bandage isn't going to help. A friend is going to have to go in there with needle and suture and close you up. Better hope you have enough soap/antiseptic to keep your wound clean! Bullet to the gut/torso? Better use that knife while you can. No medicine in the game-world will help you now. "Go out your own way", and all that. Wounds won't stop bleeding until they get pressure applied, and a bandage wrapped around them. The more severe the wound, the more work it takes to stop the bleeding. Pressure bandages < suturing < tourniquet/ligation/hemostats. Bandages will also get dirty, and have to be replaced in order to prevent infection. That rag you tore from a shirt would stop the bleeding, but you would want to sterilize it. This could be with some alcohol, some antiseptic, or just boiling them. Internal bleeding (caused from knife stabs, arrows, bullets, etc) should be death sentences. There is no place outside of a modern hospital (which, coincidentally, don't exist anymore) where you can survive both the bullet wound and the treatment. What does this mean? Don't get fucking shot Diseases, infections, and such should be far more prevalent. Right now, the only way to get a disease in Day Z is to essentially try to get the damn thing. There is a saying in "survival"; regardless of what you do, a wound will get infected. It should be really difficult to keep a wound clean. Infections should be the norm. Same thing with waterborne diseases. Right now, there is a well in literally every single town across the map. Some towns have more than one. With all of that potable water, why even bother including waterborne diseases? Simple: either remove 95% of the wells from the game, or make them "broken" and require new parts, just like vehicles. Boom, potable water is now a serious issue. -
Day Z as it should be : The Earth Abides

Like I said in another post: Go revisit Dean Halls' old posts from 2012 and 2013, he always talked about diseases, weather, hunger and thirst becoming a serious challenge similar to Project Zomboid. And back then the crowd in these very forums asking for that was a lot bigger. The reason we are so few giving still input on that stuff is that ultimately the Mod and the Standalone still fail to deliver on that side of the content, while at the same time more than good alternatives to DayZ were developed when it comes to survival game mechanics. And the way I perceive things this is not because the devs follow a trend in their playerbase. It has ever since been due to shortcomings of the engine. Thus naturally they deliver more guns, outfits and vehicles because that's what the engine was used for ever since. This is an chicken vs. egg problem. DayZ delivers more PvP content because it is easier to get done with that engine, hence the PvP playerbase grew and grew while the survival game playerbase shrank due to lack of fun game mechanics. On another note: Paying with your char's live if you fail to find medicine or fail to find enough food or grow enough crops to keep your hunger sustained indefinitely is the very definition of a survival game. If the only real danger to your live is another player with a gun the game is NOT a survival game it is just a First Person Shooter. And frankly if you judge DayZ just as that (as a FPS), one has to ask what actually makes DayZ stand out above any Arma 3 mod that adds persistence and gun modding? Answer: NOTHING. In the end I think it's worse than Noctoras said. DayZ will not lose players, it pretty much has already lost a chunk of it's players. -
Day Z as it should be : The Earth Abides
Noctoras replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
None. Noone needs a farming simulator. It should be a sandbox, give you the opportunity to go alernative paths. Right now the only game element developed sufficiently is PvP. No incentive to do anything else and all I hear about new updates are new vehicles, camo pants and guns to kill each other. Killing should be an alternative. Needs to be an alternative. But we have a game where the former inhabitants apparently had more guns than water bottles (must have lead poisoning), you feel like rummaging through a supermarket and have no challenge at all besides PvP. That's my beef, not that people are indeed able to kill each other. Later on the road there will be more to do? What will that be? Base building, okay, I got that, yet this is just another extension of PvP. Base building is needed (basically I would also love the idea of being able to modify existing houses). PvP is needed. But if I don't feel like jogging simulator waiting for someone to kill, I want my char to also have another challenge. Doesn't need to be crops. Let's put it this way: I am not opposed to PvP, I want more and I want incentives to do things other than PvP as well. Mechanics which make other stuff than PvP fun. -
Haven't played in a while, what's the current state of this game?
Noctoras replied to Danp1121's topic in General Discussion
If so (and for me content are not new vehicles and guns), I will say sorry. Don't see it coming, though. Not beyond what's announced. Given the schedule and where we are in time ... -
Hello everyone, our server is looking for beta testers to make sure everything works well before we release the server to the full public. At the current moment in time we have: WAI DZMS, Groups, Random Vehicle Spawns, Tow/Lift, Self Bloodbag and a few other addons. We also have a custom map in development for trader zones, airfields, Chernogorsk as well as a few other spots on the map that are yet to be announced. Additional information: 3rd Person and Crosshairs are ON; Restarts are every 2 hours [Warnings will be implemented]; The server is currently in a REGULAR state, but that will change soon.; The max player count is 30; 24/7 Day; PVP Spawning Vehicles Our Teamspeak Ip is 217.163.10.72:9214 Server IP is: 195.154.17.24:2302 If any bugs are found poke James Hellfire on the TS or write in in side chat and an admin will be on ASAP.

DayZ Vanilla Chernarus 1.8.6.1 - Redmask - Veteran - UTC-11
Redmask posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
IP - 75.156.105.137:2302 This is a 100% vanilla DayZ server We have a normal amount of vehicles so that they are still rare but not impossible to find I have made sure that they spawn damaged so that it is still a challenge to get them working. The server has a normal day/night cycle and is set to UTC-11 but we are open to change if players prefer a different time zone I hope to see you on the server! -
It'll come as part of the new animation system. You can see the prototype, I guess, in the DayZ trailer released like 2 years ago, where people are limping away from a fight. Presumably how badly you limp and how you limp will be affected on where you're injured. If you break a rib you'll probably hold your side and and stagger along, and if you get shot in the leg you'll probably limp quite badly. That's speculation of course (the limping stuff is pretty much confirmed, not so much on ow it'll function though) but it's a much better and in-depth system than simple tagging, wouldn't you agree? It's a bit like vehicles. I remember months ago people were whining (not that you're whining) about vehicles not being in the game. "Just add vehicles from Arma 2! I saw mad hax where somebody just imported Arma 2 vehicles and they worked perfectly, DayZ is a scam!" Meanwhile they were working on a system that would add stuff like suspension and individual car parts and interactive doors and shit. Who's calling for basic old shitty Arma 2 cars now? Combat in general does need work. The movement system is stupid. However, I think the devs know this and it'll hopefully be addressed soon. I don't know when their new animation system thing is coming out, but hopefully it'll be soon.

I'm waiting for the .59 to experience the new vehicles... thats about it. i could care less about the zombies, player interaction and pvp is aways where the money is.
-
Good points from Baker and Borom. I stopped playing when zombies were removed. I also played experimental a lot, because there were updates every week. Dayz just sucks without zombies. It's just too easy. I played Arma 3 mod with zombies last night and it was like good old days in dayz mod. Even though zombies were terribly overpowered and we were dieing every 15 minutes. On other hand, dayz is available for more than three years and we are getting a bit bored. Until devs give us something big, like 5 or six new vehicles and base building player numbers will fall. And there are other games and mods out there that learned on dayz mistakes and gave players what they want.
-
All I want is the infected back, night being dark (no more gamma slider) ,less food and of course minor bugs like "not being able to loot unless you go out and come back in" and double stone crafted knife fixed. They can work on more vehicles (& heli's) and base building until the new year for all I care if we get the zeds back and true night.

Day Z as it should be : The Earth Abides
lrp1984 replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
KOS happens so often because it's the preferred play-style of the majority of the player base of this game. Sure, a lot of people also enjoy the looting aspect, having to search around for stuff, and the survival side to a certain extent. It adds a little more realism to the murder simulator if you need to think about your health and what clothes to wear. You also know that your victim has also had to worry about similar health and clothing issues in his/her long or short life. DayZ is still essentially a looting and murder simulator (with a lot of running in between). If you're not the one murdering other people, then you're playing as the victim. It's what most of us enjoy about the game. You might think that much harsher conditions and less supplies will create more player interaction in the game, and less KOS, you're wrong, it'd kill the game, and you'd be left playing on 5/30 servers, almost never seeing another player, and if you did see another player, 3 out of those 5 people will still kill you on sight for your stuff. I'm not saying I agree with this, but it's just how it is. The developers get a lot more feedback when they add new guns, vehicles, helicopters and clothes than they do when they add new types of plants to grow. How many people do you see wearing the full tanned leather outfit shooting a bow and arrow? How often do you come across someone fishing at a pond? I like those aspects of the game, but they're not bringing in the players. The devs will continue to add more ways to kill people because it's what the masses want, and if they're clever, they'll add more gore to make those kills that bit more satisfying. It's a sad truth, but if they added new ways to torture victims (flaying skin, cutting off limbs, burning people, being able to finely cut someone to scar them etc) then those mechanics would be used far more often than any of the crafting or survival aspects. -

CryWolf is a noob and veteran friendly server that began about two weeks ago. We are a friendly but competitive community growing quickly. Plugins and map additions are being added by suggestion of the community. Bugs are fixed quickly. Max Players: 50 Vehicles are scarce but easier to obtain once you make some money. Restarts every 3 hours to prevent lag and such. Public server. Midwest located server. But we have players from all over the world. I have over 2000 hours of dayz played years ago, sadly IRL and other games got in the way and I quit playing. And due to all the hackers I didnt want to return. So I am looking for a whitelist server to avoid any chance of hackers ruining my fun, I got one maybe two IRL friends joining me. We just want a whitelisted server (preferably one with active admins) where me and my friends can roam the map killing bandits and have some good old dayz fun. We normally let "innocent" players live, we never kill fresh spawns unless provoked, and sometimes we like to do some trading, but we are in no way friendly. PS: I dont mind a few vehicles and helicopters etc. but I`d like them to be rare, atleast to the point that it takes more then 5 minutes to find a working vehicle. The same goes for guns and ammo etc. I dont want easymode highspawn dayz. Edit: my and my friends are located in norway and we only play on low ping servers. Meaning below 100ping. We also want to play the arma2 mod and not the standalone on steam

I mean, in order for anything like this to happen you basically have to get rid of 99% of the content in the game, including the map. It's a bit late in development to in essence do everything but the engine from scratch... again. "Yeah guys, sorry, we're taking out all guns, vehicles, and most of the other things too. We feel like at this point drastic change is necessary and the game would obviously be 100 times better if people almost never killed each other and we all play as cavemen." I'd like to add that while it's a very interesting work of fiction, it's not actually a very realistic indication of what would probably happen. The reason why pests are able to thrive is because of our massive civilization - they rely on people. Sure, if society completely collapsed they could go uncontrolled for a time period, but eventually all of the edible things we have are going to go away and the rodent population will decrease significantly. It's proportionate. And even with minuscule populations of people left, you'll still have conflict. Native American tribes that are often incorrectly remembered as being peaceful actually conflicted just as often, if not more than the Europeans who came later, and even shortly before their arrival massive plagues wiped out large populations of the natives. No matter what the resources are people will still compete over them. -
Is DayZ mod still being updated?

Thats great, just wanted to know if the mod was abandoned or not. also I know this probably won't happen but do you guys plan on adding the ability to shoot from vehicles? I saw this in the DayZ Purge mod video and I think its such a cool feature. -
Evening Survivors, In this week's Status Report, Lead Producer Brian Hicks will be addressing upcoming features such as contaminated terrain, aerial vehicles, and character lifespan. Also, he will be serving a quick recap on ongoing work for 0.59 experimental. Contents This Week Development Board SpotlightDev Update/HicksIgromir ExpoCommunity Video: Hard Work Development Board Spotlight Dev Update/Hicks Greetings Survivors! So last weekend we were fortunate enough to be invited onto the TwitchCon stage to talk about a few upcoming things to DayZ. For those that weren't able to catch the broadcast, we're going to recap what was covered in this week’s Status Report. Before we do that - a quick recap on pending 0.59 experimental. - Improvements on passenger perspective vehicle sync are still in progress - Server/Client crash issues are being worked on - Network Traffic Profiling tools will be pushed to certain Exp servers when the push goes out - Infected Resource costs are still being worked on - Bugfixing and iteration work is being done upon applying lifetime to items when they are created (initial item spawn) Contaminated Terrain When we looked at testing out the impact of terrain that requires specific equipment to safely navigate, naturally the opportunity presented itself with the upcoming Tisy Military Base, and the need to make acquiring the first Helicopter a high risk situation. Personally, I found the meeting rather exciting due to the fact that the art assets required can be added to the library used by the Environment Design team on their destruction passes aimed at making Chernarus look more post-disaster. In the above concept art we have an example of the mass graves you would see in a last-stand military / relief hybrid camp. With the base, we're hoping to have new civilian agency hospital tents, barricades, and general signs of the last stand of the UN and CDF forces as they tried to hold off their pending death. The installation itself was originally a Surface to Air Missile & Radar base originally built by the occupying Soviets. The elevated platform you see within the frame of coursed originally used for mobile radar installations. Entering and navigating the installation should (hopefully) require using protective gear, be it the gas masks or a future hazmat suit. Else you risk a potentially fatal illness, or spreading such illness to your friends and fellow survivors. Obviously parts to support an operational helicopter will be completely separate from operational fluids and parts required to repair and maintain say.. a bus. So finding that helicopter up at Tisy definitely won't be a quick spot and grab! Aerial Vehicles Speaking of helicopters - we spoke briefly about the first aerial vehicle in DayZ at TwitchCon. The Littlebird is a model inherited from the Take On Helicopters team, and updated to meet DayZ's quality requirements. The below video is very - very rough implementation, purely keyboard controls (because I'm just that good). We'll be expanding the aerial vehicles past the Littlebird of course - current plans include expanding to fixed wing aircraft as well. (Stay tuned for that!) For those curious, as I've mentioned several times prior - One of the mechanics we're just not satisfied with from DayZ Mod is the "Universal Parts" system. You could take a tire off of a bicycle and slap it on a URAL. The motor from a small fishing boat could be used in a tractor, and so on. With the introduction of new land vehicles into 0.59 we're expanding the operational parts past "Truck Battery" and "Glow Plug" - and Aerial Vehicles will see that expand as well. Specialized parts, and fuel will be required, and hopefully also see the importance of areas that naturally would contain those items be reintroduced. Character Lifespan Lastly, while at TwitchCon we had the opportunity to discuss some of the methods of character growth and progression we're working on. Specifically for TwitchCon we discussed methods of character aging, and the visual impact on the appearance of the character. Obviously females won't be growing beards, and we discussed briefly how this effect can expand past just facial hair and into scars, and dirty faces. The principle idea being allowing people to opt out of the system, and pose as someone freshly spawned. However - for those who want to go for the grizzled look, facial hair - blood, dirt, and grime can all give the appearance of a character who has seen it all. Scars obviously however cannot just be "washed off" - and as we look to see how viable scars are, and if they fit within the scope of 1.0 we'll be discussing this in future status reports. Additionally, prototypes are currently being worked on for the previously described "soft skills" - keep your eye on future status reports for that ;) - Brian Hicks / Lead Producer Igromir Expo Российские Фанаты DayZ ! Community Video: Hard WorkSo, time to take a break from the massive amounts of PvP videos and show something different. In this video, our protagonist farmer prepares a small plot, plants his tomato seeds, waters them, and peacefully awaits the moment when he can reap the sweet benefits of his back breaking work. Oh, come on!!! Just let the man keep his tomato patch!!! Poor guy... Thanks for sharing haknslash. You did what you could. Keep that content coming everyone! To be honest here mate you're kind of ignoring the obvious. The map isn't big enough for mankind to have evolved purely there either, but it goes unsaid that this is just a small section of the world. Notice the buildings everywhere? The man made wells and wrecked vehicles and infastructure, the schools? I wonder did you see a school for the first time and say "tut tut, as if this is a large enough map to support the human race". I doubt it, because it's obvious :) When i find a cat in my garden i don't instantly think "oh man i never knew my garden was enough territory for this cat to live exclusively".. Instead i prefer the more realistic "oh look there's a cat in my garden". If Chernarus is the kind of land you would find wolves then i'm happy to accept that our small part of the map is not the only part there is, and all the evidence already supports this view. Bring on the wolves.

I hope some big changes come in the near future so I'll stay optimistic till release, but there's a few things I really want to see when the games ready. I'm sure a lot of these are just my opinions but this is what I'm really hoping for. 1. Fix up the engine, a friend watched my character frozen in place for 12 minutes until it updated and showed where I really was. I also hope it dosent turn out like the arma 3 engine, AI taking 7 shots with weird glitchy animations and bullets constantly hitting targets and not registering as hits. I know there's no aI but something just felt off. Also I really hope the gun sway isn't the same as arma 3 but more like arma 2. 2. Zombies. Of all kinds. Some slow, some even faster than I can run so shooting is the only option. Waves of them blocking out the sun in some random swarms. I want a reason to team up with people and risk getting back stabbed. If the zombies are so difficult maybe it'd be a good enough reason to team up with other survivors. 3. Some more original places to be created. There's that cool big ship but no reason to explore it, and because of the way your character freezes when he falls down stairs everyone I know and myself just derped off the edge and don't go back. I feel this is a massive hole in the game. There's those large quarry doors (I forget where) if they opened that up and made a large area heading underground. You need flashlights to head in there, large amounts of zombies, need some players to team up with and head in. You could put some good loot/crafting items in there. I'd love to see an oil rig far out in the sea with some abandoned chinooks an mil gear, maybe the odd bunker randomly scattered around, could even stumble across a rare doomsday ppreppers bunker with mountains off food and an svd or so. That underground bunker that used to be in to be opened up and made into a huge underground complex. Some more islands with something interesting on them. Hidden caves. Radiation zone maybe. That half sunken ship near that island, maybe you could swim round the side and find a way in. Opening up the regular buildings was a huge step in the right direction but we need some original attractions to give certain towns identities. 4. A way to stop server hopping, or maybe not to stop it but to give a bigger incentive to hit different locations in the same server, if only certain things maybe spawned at different locations instead of all at nwaf, and scatter them to some interesting places like above. These points could change around every server restart or so, I dunno, just a reason to hit up different locations and explore. 5. Spawn points and spawning in. It just feels weird that poof, you just appear on the beach and go spam an apple tree then go to nwaf. What if you spawned absolutely anywhere, in any clothes. Arrived in a boat in fishing gear and really thirsty/ woke up in a wrecked Cessna and need some morphine/ parachuted in as a convict with handcuffs on and left for dead/ woke in hospital/ opened up the door of a bunker because your out off supplies. Something different. I get they don't want everone geared super quick but if there was a way to spread out out the different types of endgame loot that in my opinion would be way better. You would meet people on the road more often instead of 70% of the server camping every possible angle of berezino. And the rest being relatively empty. 6. Polish up all the survival aspects. Also some ways of cooking are just not that viable. Having a tripod and cooking pot and setting all that up to cook fish and it takes absolutely ages to cook food. Then you can just use a stick and save yourself lugging around the extra tripod and cook meat in a matter of seconds. It's pointless. Netting fish traps break super fast for such a rare material. Some actions for things look the same or a bit derpy like spamming water fountains. 7. Body de spawning, maybe it's just me on this one but I really feel it could be extended quite a bit. I've taken out someone and by the time I realised his friend logged the body had despawned. I'm not a fantastic pvp'er but I've had it happen a few times now and it's miserable. 8. The ghille suit to work, maybe with the new renderer coming in there might be changes but even if they made it 100x harder to get the materials but made it actually good. The devs made a really cool looking one just a shame it's not useful. 9.Dynamic spawns. Would love to see the choppers crash and flying around the map. Also a bit more spread out into the east. 10. More junk loot in the mix. 11. Better craftable supressors. Could use oil filters for cars/motorbikes as rifle/pistol supressors. Also the ability to spray paint them. Maybe they could last somewhere in between the bottle and real supressors. Make them hard to find/ could also be used as parts in vehicles. 12. Spray paint tent. Or camo tents. I have high hopes for dayz, and to be honest I'd probably just settle for lots of zeds but I really hope they consider a few of these things. Btw I'd love to know if anyone feels the same about spawning randomly and spreading the loot around or if it's just me on that one. Cheers

Armored ground was way more of a balance issue in the mod than helicopters ever were. It was no fun being run over by near invulnerable vehicles. On some servers that's all pvp became, was running people over with armored trucks. Of course, a large issue of that was large vehicles in the mod could run straight over everything, including trees, and an overabundance.

1. How have the updates been the past year? Didn't play much in past few months, but looks like during this time they managed to got rid of some bugs, which could kill your guy for no apparent reason. In couple weeks that I've played now, I've only died if shot by another player, so that's very cool. Looks like they are going to add a bunch of new vehicles in the next update, that can change the game in a big way. 2. How fun is the zombie aspect? Not much fun now, as there are almost none in the game, but what I hear they will return reworked - so I'm expecting them to be more fun than they were previously. I slightly disagree with 31ROY, as zombies were enough a challenge so they could ruin your gear, or even kill you with a single blow at least in update .55, which I played last before returning. 3. What is the best format to play DayZ in? Not sure if I understand what you mean by format, but if you're talking about how to play the game, then you can try to play in different ways in different servers. It's a rich world, there is no single best way to play. For example, you can learn to play very stealthy if you play lone wolf in a popular server. That skill then will benefit your teamplay too. 4. Invite me to your bandit clan cuz I want to force feed people rotten food for their can of beans. Not in a clan, so no can do. As there are no zombies you might want to wait before buying it, like update .59 or .60. But given that the map is big you might also want to have some experience before the zombies return. -
I had mine in 0.55 ... hours played (with apple picking, mind you!), still no gun. finally found a gun, felt like a king on the server (it was a crappy gun, but I had gun + ammo), but was close to starvation in stary. Had lost my mate to starvation already. There was this pond. Zombies were still mute (with hindsight that was cool). Needed to drink or die. drank. Zombie I didnt hear coming hit me from behind. Dead. Now all is dull. Ever since loot tweaking in 0.55 gearing is no issue, survival is none. Only question is whether my screen goes black because someone shoots me or I shoot someone's screen black. In the WORST case I survive for ages .... worst case, since dull becomes super dull. And in 0.59 I get: - VSS Vintorez. Another gun for blacking screens. - Vehicles. Quite cool, but if I get hyper bored in a Lada or in a V3S, well ...

1. they are getting somewhat slower, much bugfixing - I doubt DayZ is further than comparable games at present. 2. Zombies have been removed from the game for the time being due to performance issues (-> see 1.) 3. ? 4. Force feeding will not work. It is all about KOS (kill on sight) these days. Either your screen goes black saying you are dead or you make someone else's screen go black saying he is dead. Other aspects of the game are negligible and redundant at present. Current updates (refering to point 1.) focus on expanding the gun number from 40 to 42 and add new vehicles so you can get to your shooting hotspot quicker. New content currently is rather few and far between. Welcome to Chernarus.

Yes, vanilla dayz is still good and more than enough people still playing. I occasionaly play dayz origins which is similar to vanilla except new vehicles, dif map and has base building. It's fairly good and usualy a few high pop servers at a time.
