Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions

-Surefire M6LT flashlight for a long range spotlight at night.

-AN/PVS21 or a similar goggle setup that includes nightvision and a thermal image combined for the most rarest form of NVG/thermal systems. ultra rare item. ultra ultra rare. the kind of rare that most people playing the game wont believe its even in there. maybe 1 player in a year finds it. but it will always keep you looking cause its that good. They can also (i think ) be plugged into other devices for a heads up display. maybe GPS waypoints could work and show up on here. or a compass.

Handheld HAM radio for contacting other players in the game?

I think there definately should be batteries for the electronics like NVG, thermal, radios, lights, gps, etc. this way the game keeps you having to visit tough locations to keep using your stuff. right now, once you get something, you know you have it, and feel relaxed so long as you dont die. batteries will keep people rummaging. and also force people do decide if they are gonna use one item over another if batteries are scarce, or once installed cant be taken out and used in another device.

how about a small remote control UAV in the form of a plane or helicopter. somthing small like an actual remote control plane. battery powerd, maybe it uses a lot of battereis but it can also be valuable for locating or patroling an area. something like in the movie "act of valor" when they were in the jungle during the rescue mission.

just another silly idea, and im just bringing this up for the laugh factor when it happens. buuuut...

how about when you eat like 2 or 3 cans of beans in one sitting, after a time duration, you begin to pass gas, and would work like the cough feature where zombies can 'hear' you. i would die of LOL if i was walking around town with someone who had to be a little more careful becasue they have gas. but if thats all you had to eat? maybe it only last like 20 min. hearing someone in your group letting them rip (without being able to do anything about it) would be a hilarious situation that would have some lasting memories. funny stories. you can also make some gas-x found in the supermarket. i said it was a silly idea.

Surprised the SKS isn't on that list. Out of any gun out there I think the SKS would be the most common!

With that, you could convert AKM/AK47 or anything 7.62x39 into 'stripper clips' and vice versa.

Dirty water - I think you got this one already. I think that along with 'good' food and 'bad' food, there should be the same for water. you can find and use a water filter to clean pond or other water you find, or make a fire and boil it with a camp pot that you can find, or even an old empty tin can you found. but if you dont sanitize the water, you will get sick.

siphon fuel - find some hose and pull fuel out of cars or anything else, and put into a container to use in something else. maybe gas tanks around the world only have so much in them at any given time.

Wet suits - to stay warm while swimming

Hiking boots - moderate duability, med weight

military boots - very durable, heavier

sneakers - light and cheap

Hallucinations (spelling?) - dont know if it can be done, but if you can get a single player to see something, like maybe a large group or even just a few zeds rushing at the player who is hallucinating things, causing him to actually fire at them or run away in fear (when there is nothing there and no other players can see it) would be cool. maybe this could happen when you get bit by a zombie, or you are in a very bad stage of being sick.

Please keep the super high tech items. i would think, just like in a lot of other real world situations, the special operations communities (regardless of which country your in) would be at the fore front of this whole zombie apocalypse ordeal. I would just really really limit when the high ticket items appear. like those AN/PVS 21 NVGs i mentioned earlier. Why not have what could have been a four man team of spec ops guys that got over run by zeds, spawn like the helicopters. except these guys spawn in the middle of the woods and not on the open planes. make their spawn very rare, and then make the NVG/Thermals a rare spawn off of that. which would make them very very rare.

what about construction vehicles .. Bulldozers (clearing trees' flattening ground ).. backhoe's ( trench digging ).. dump trucks... etc.. ... I know we are going to be able to make underground bases... Wouldn't we need these to construct them.. I not diggin that shit by hand..

Being able to modify and scavenge the vehicles in game now would be nice also. I can weld .. Why wouldn't I if this happened take my 4x4 and mod the shit out of it.

Generators for what ever.. flood lights.. electric fences... Etc.. think of the player made base's you could build with some of this stuff.. Dig in.. build tree stands.. surround with barb wire.. sand bags.. bear traps.. electric fences.. not enough juice to kill you.. but enough to knock you out..

I saw in here somewhere about building traps.. why not.. snares.. pit traps.. spikes.. log traps.. rock traps..

If this was happening.. i would dig in so tight in my home range after years you would not be able to get near me when I at my base.

Some kind of body armor also. I know if this shit going down. I be grabbing what ever I could find to help with personal defense.. shit even football shoulders pads. baseball catchers leg pads.. I played paint ball pretty hard core years ago and I had a real bullet proof vest I used to wear under my camo.

Add all weapons in arma. can keep out all the thermals cept the L85..

Stackable sandbags, I'd like to build a small fort more than 1 foot high.

This. + Drag/drop where you want them. I.e. place down one end, walk to where you want it to end, drop the other end there.

Please don't put any of this shit like hockey sticks or cricket bats in the game. I'm all for a pitchfork, shovel, shears, or something like that, but don't put anything completely immersion breaking as a weapon. Please rocket, please.

Please put more knife and stuff like aswell as a sedative or something to knock people out. Also some rope so I can go around and murder people.

Miscellaneous survival related items would be awesome in my opinion - Fishing lines, pen/pencil and paper/notebook (to write instructions on a notebook or pinning a paper somewhere with instructions or locations to other survivors), a whistle, a lighter, signal mirrors, Gerber style multitools, etc.

Also, clothes and gear with different stats such as water proof clock (works in rain or inside water while a standard one can get damaged), a poncho giving bonus against some diseases while in rain (less likely to catch a cold) and a temperature bonus, high quality military grade boots giving some temperature bonus and stamina bonus to the wearer on hard terrain, different types of gloves, different layers of clothing, etc. Each item with certain characteristic for certain temperature/weather conditions. Wearing winter clothes on a hot day will give you some problems for example.

I can imagine...

Bandit puts up a paper saying "If you can see this, I can see you".

Make the zombies harder to deal with. Right now players are a problem, but zombies are a nuisance. If it's going to be zombies, it better be zombies big-time.

The current weapons in dayz work pretty well. If it wasn't for hackers and duplications, then high grade military weapons would be super rare and most people would still be running around with Winchesters and Cz50s.

My two gun suggestions for the standalone are as follows:

  • more frequent and more variety for low grade weapons.
  • less frequent crazy ass weapons (would probably be solved by stopping hackers and fixing glitches)

Also, please make sure that we have to spend lots of time running around with a shitty semi-auto hunting rifle or shotgun before we find a auto/military weapon. The best part of the game is when you have the basics you need and a shitty/trusty rifle or shotty with limited ammo. Don't lose sight of that.

Nobody enjoys playing DayZ for DayZ's sake when they have a AS50/Mod 48/FN-FAL what they are enjoying is playing Arma 2 against other people playing DayZ. Trust me.

Also, for the love of god, introduce some kind of weight system or endurance system. Running for 8 Km non-stop while carrying engine parts, two tires, supplies, M249 saw, PDW, and a tool belt that would make Batman drool is purely stupid and unnecessary.

We can get sick from being too cold, but we can't get dizzy or pass out from a death march?

M1A1 Tank altered to:

Be reloaded with looted rounds (rare spawn)

Be repaired as other vehicles

Treads take damage from high caliber rifle rounds (AS50, m107) rendering tank immobile

Slightly higher percentage chance of AT rockets and launcher spawn?

The idea about the tank is that server hosts could choose between spawning choppers or spawning tanks. The tank would have to be made more vulnerable to certain weapons, but the fact that you can't guard it 24/7 sort of guarantees that no one will keep one permanently anyway.

Camouflage Tarp/Structure to cover and hide vehicles. Seriously, the only annoying thing about choppers is the fact that sooner or later one is going to wreck your camp.

Firearms are covered up and down in this thread all ready. If tanks or vehicular camouflage were mentioned, I didn't read those posts and apologize.

And please don't implement a massive amount of melee and improvised weapons. It just seems too easy for these ideas to become comedic and shatter the tension and bitter seriousness of DayZ. To me, the mod's biggest success is in taking this genre seriously when no other devs had even half way considered trying it.

M1A1 Tank - if the military was around, these would have at least been present i would think.

maybe you can make like 10 different heavy weapons, helicopters, planes, etc that could have been left abandoned during the outbreak and will only spawn one at a time. this would give some variety among the heavy machinery like tanks and keep them all very very rare and limited. maybe the parts are the things that are SUPER rare, like tracks and tank shells. and we actually have a number of tanks laying around, just no way to fix them up.

having other heavy weapons that spawn this way would also keep people from constantly seeking out "the tank" when they dont know which heavy vehicle would spawn, or in what area.

Maybe if not removing completely guns and items like M107, AS50, thermal optics, NVG etc., I think you Rocket could spawn like 1 that kind of weapon in every month on some servers. Then there wouldn't be no chance that they are not enough rare stuff.

One month is just suggestion, maybe it should even more rare or just bit less rare. You see how much people have that fancy stuff when they have saved their game right? That's the way to keep those super guns etc. not too common.

I also suggest stamina/endurance system so you can't run 8km non stop. Something like ACE mod have so if you have much stuff with you you can't run much. But I think this is offtopic :P

Bayonets,detachable scopes/sights,but stock/pistol bottom for close combat silent knock out attacks on players and kills zombies like a crow bar,pen and paper to leave notes on body's and doors or cars and as a notepad in your inventory,hunting knife should be able to be used as a secondary weapon or attached to a stick to make a primary weapon spear,detachable silencers and flash hiders,customisable hats shirts/t-shirts troswers jackets/coats and shoes so that people could make their character unique. And finally the food growing in the gardens could be harvestable oh and you should be able to smash up the lights on your car so you can drive with night vision and not be seen in your car or a switch as well as a secondary out the passenger windows action for shooting out of cars

A few ideas. Some have been mentioned and in which case I'm simply endorsing their inclusion.

SUSTENANCE

Foraging - berries from bushes, veggies from gardens - these will only reset the hunger counter and not increase blood volume.

Fishing - as per hunting

Drinking directly from ponds and pumps.

INVENTORY

Inventory/Encumbrance - The more full your back pack the more noise you make and the slower you go. Will force players to decide whether stealth or everything but the kitchen sink is necessary. - Encumbrance should be a factor when considering the speed of the character.

Inventory - should be able to sling more than one "primary" weapon but with a penalty to movement, noise and visibility.

Easier swapping between primary/secondary/melee (cqc)/ and NO WEAPON. Primary and secondary is currently easy. Melee can also include fisticuffs - more for PvP - More KO potential and less Blood Volume loss.

EQUIPMENT

Splints

Molotov cocktails

ENVIRONMENT

Flocks of birds that spawn and can be distrubed (flying off noisilly) when someone moves past - revealing player positions.

Carrion birds to spot areas where players have been killed - there should be a delay of abou 30 minutes if the body hasn't been hidden.

Harsher weather with harsher penalties (frost bite) - snow would be great. Or seasons that align with RL as per the day/night cycle.

IDENTIFICATION

Options for more distinguishing clothing so you can better ID friends vs. others.

Option to volunteer your identity to someone who can then "see" your name on your character when within a certain range and thereby identify you and vice versa - would support squad play.

GESTURES

More non-combat related poses. Running around aiming your weapon at everyone suggests aggression when it isn't intended, plus I've been the victim of unintended shootings and hatchets (to the back of the head).

Suggestion:

Expanding the medical department. Introducing anti-depressants, beta blocker etc. and the corresponding health issues. This would make your character more human like. He has soul, feelings etc. how he manage to combat this cruel world?

Also, creating stuff that makes you addicted to it after a while. Some drinks, pills etc. Just my thoughts
