How do I keep a chopper?

I mean, everytime I find one, I use my time to fix it, and just when I can fly, a guy just randomly pops up and kills me, every fucking time. Are there really just hackers waiting for people, or am I just extremely fucking unlucky?

Getting so goddamn tired of dying everytime something good happens. It's not possible to fix one and fly away. The only way to do this is either hack or have like 10 friends with you.

Also, I managed to fix one and fly away, I flew out of map(appparently it was not even outside the map), landed, and logged out, next morning it's gone. How do I keep it overnight?

Vehicles outside of the map will be reset to their spawn points. This prevens hoarding of vehicles and off map camps.

I just go on Skalisty Island and server hop until I find one. I've experienced so much in this game a chopper is the only thing that interests me. Tbh I would use it to pick up freshspawns and transport them to whereever.

While you are sitting there fixing up the Chopper people doing the exact same thing could be server hopping to your position. If you want to save it you could always find another main rotary assembly and break the one on the helicopter when you park it so anyone who finds it will have to go searching for a part before take off, but then you run the risk of the person just destroying the heli so you can not have it either.

You could land it on a roof of a building in a small low traffic Northern town, like Petro or Gvozdno, but once again players unable to get to it might just destroy the helicopter for the fun of it. Whatever you do try not to park it in the Northern part of the map since that is where most of us check for vehicles being hidden.

Man.. and I thought snipers were bad people. that is just plain nasty. My condolences. I've never bothered nor found a chopper myself but I already know it can be difficult to find it even when server hopping. not to mention about getting it fixed aswell.

Well, that was a hacker for sure. Others have suggested well run private hives but at the same time a well run private hive usually has a core group that most likely has the chopper already. I usually accept that the Chopper will be stolen or destroyed and just try to have as much fun as possible while I still have the thing. Nothing better than a chopper battle with two crews, but you could still drive around griefing people or helping them (whatever suits your play style). My favorite thing to do in a helicopter is cause people to combat log, you fly up on someone and see zombies everywhere and as soon as they hear you hovering over or even killing a few infected there is a good chance all the zombies will suddenly disappear.

TL;DR yea that was a hacker, also have fun while you have it.

I managed to find another one while server hopping. (To Dallas: Me too, but I have nothing else to do than find choppers. I never log out in combat though.) This one I fixed, I took some parts from a nearby tent, but I had to server hop to find the rest.

When I once got it, I just flew around the map for a while, looking for stuff and just generally sightseeing. It was almost morning, I had stayed up all night fixing the damn thing. So I decided to land on the hotel on Chernarus, save it, then log out. Next morning it is GONE...

I mean, there is no way to get up there while on foot, I checked, it is only possible with chopper. Still it's gone. I checked around the hotel, around Chernarus and could not see a crashed chopper. So my advice is; If you want a chopper, you better have the most exciting time of your life while you have it, because the next morning it's gone.

TL;DR Found chopper, fixed it, flew around the map, landed on hotel on Cherno, log out, next morning is GONE...fucking GONE.

Also, I only seem to find choppers at the worst times. When I'm not at home because of school, my internet shuts down at midnight. Guess when we find choppers? Anywhere from 10pm to 11:30pm.

How you keep a chopper:

You don't

thats basically it

why?

1) People get a HUGE marker n the screens side when being near a chopper at daytime, for like 1km radius you see it even through terrain and trees

2) people really want choppers

3) you can pack everything you need to repair a chopper into a cojote backpack

4) Even if you par choppers on a spot hard o get to (top of a building, island etc.) people can still shoot it to explosion

this is actually untrue. We took your chopper and landed it on the hotel roof ourselves. Now you are bent because you have no way back up there.

Buddy, first rule of DayZ is - Do not get attached to any of your gear! - whether it's a coyote backpack, your favourite gun or a helicopter because sooner or later you will lose it.

Of course you could do what many others have done and get your own server, then you'll never lose anything ever again, at least not for long.

You can't hide anything in this game. At all. Ever. Anything of value will be taken within a couple hours most of the time. It'll be lucky to last that long on a public server.
