DayZ Weapons - A Question?

Recommended Posts

This is just a question to those who may know.

In DayZ there is a huge variety of weaponry available and this is because it is a mod of a military simulator.

In real life what kind of weapons would one expect to find in homes, barns and barracks? I understand that Americans will have more variety than say Australians and Europeans because the only place you would ever find legal guns in Oz is at places like police stations, army bases and possibly farmhouses.

What i am getting at is what types of weapons can we realistically expect to find scattered around after an apocalypse situation?

A lot of homeowners or vehicle owners have pistols. I find it odd that I go into homes and find hunting rifles more often than Makarovs. I always imagined finding rape pistols in standalone. :D

Here in Scotland we are very very strict on weapons... though Farms would contain hunting riles like .22 and 12 Gauge Shotguns... special branches of Police would have Glock 17's and MP5's

Then you have the army with SA80-A2 Rifles, LA86LSW and GPMG's.....

To be honest that would be it, can tell you exactly where i would be going (and thankfully is close by) if the apocalypse would kick off.

Bar that i would have a hatchet.. a crowbar. Machette's (i know they are common as hell!) basically anything i can swing!

I actually own a Makarov (was a gift) and due to this game I sigh every time I see the gun. I also own a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun for home protection and my spouse's Father and Step-Father have over a dozen weapons apiece including scoped rifles and one Assault Rifle (I guess people get very picky on what you can call an Assault Rifle). In America you would find a variety of weapons in homes including some low grad semi auto military style Battle Rifles. Scoped rifles would be fairly common as would a variety of handguns in the states and we currently have more firearms than people in this country, so yes guns would be insanely common in a zombie apocalypse if it happened in the United States. Most countries have absurd stockpiles of weapons as well, former Soviet republics and Russia for example. The Middle East and Africa are overflowing with low grade weapons, then you have police stations and military bases that would also have a good amount of weapons regardless of where it took place.

There are certain countries where good low grade weapons would be far less common and that would be in Western European countries and Australia (not really sure how prevalent firearms are in Asian and South American countries though so I will not venture a guess there).

Being I am a minor (and ineligible for possessing weapons), I probably couldn't answer this question properly; but hell... I can try.

To be honest, the commonness of military grade weaponry in Day Z is leaning over the edge of complete ridiculousness. I never could understand why I could find M4's in the fire station. On the other end, I think lower tear weapons would be realistically much more common then they are as the game is now. I think (realistically) you would see more Winchester/double barrel show downs than anti material rifle sniping.

But maybe i'm just a prude, and people need their ultra powerful, practically infinitely ranged, vehicle butchering, As50s to make the game playable for them. which is fine and all, but i'm sure there are plenty of Call of Dut dut, and Battle Field 3 servers for them as well....

A huge amount, enough to survive the end of the world for sure...

Here in new zealand(hippie capaital o the world).. pistols are hard to get, yah need a special license and safe, and need to be a member of a club to own one... Rifles on the other hand are pretty common, military stle rifles also require a special license... however, an m4, without a bayonet lug, or flash suppressor, and a mag size no larger than 7 rnds dosnt class as a military style rifle.

So chinese knock off M14s are common as mud, as are ruger minis and ruger mini 30's, m4/m16's, g36 H&K;s etc... just with small mags. Hell yah can buy .50's on an A cat license.. 338s are comming into the market more so now also.(although expensive)

I live rural, going down my road you would be unlucky to find less than 6 rifles at any given house, mine included.

Thanks guys.

Here in Australia guns are very hard to come by (after some nutcase 15 years ago caused the government to buy back all weapons) unless you are a farmer or sports marksman. Even then i think you can only get certain types of guns.

Does anyone know of the types of weapons you would find in East Europe?

I think what i am getting at is DayZ Chernarus would be a vastly different scenario to DayZ Australia, which in turn would be a different experience to DayZ USA

Ohh barracks, i was 10 years infantry (before rockets day id say) and here(NZ) styers (AUG) are general issue weapon, with C9's (m249 same thing) as standard section gun, and gympy's (gpmg/m240 basically) as our general purpose fire support... these would be really common at military sites, with m24's, BMG's, CG 84's, 72;s etc being less common.

It would be the same the world over, the standard section world wide is probably running two guns now, so there would be 2 SAW's per 8 assualt rifles, so armies as a general rule have shed loads o guns ;) NVG's wouldnt be hard to find either.

Really? That is interesting. I thought NVG's were some kind of Special Ops thing.

The things you learn.

Dayz Oz- fighting back zeds with sharpened brooms and poky sticks

Dayz Us- sitting in a tank , tunes pumping, swilling beer blowing the fuck out of anything that moves while your mates hang off the side with nade launchers and flamethrowers. Bumper sticker on the back..My other tank is an A10.
