Anyone remember the massive shitstorm concerning Mass Effect, the "HARDCORE ALIEN PORN SIMULATOR". which turned out to be like a 5 second clip of an inferred sexual encounter?

What do you think happens to DayZ "PRE-TEEN MUTILATION SIMULATION" ?

I just worry , if killing zombified youngsters in a game is totally off the cards, there may be a few dodgers looking to get their fix elswhere..... :o

I'm a father of two, 17yo boy and 12yo girl.

Im all for killing full grown zombies and douche bags in games, but I draw the line at killing kids. Zombie or not.

So it's a no from me, and I don't expect anyone to understand where I'm coming from unless they're a parent.

I don't think Rocket will want his game banned anywhere ( Australia ), so I don't think the whole "kid" zombie deal would be ideal. However, I do like your idea. Maybe you could have older, slower zombies, and younger ones are much faster and more powerful?

URgh I hate the idea of applying conventional censorship to this game.

The main problem here is that like any other media outlet, it is subject to competition, and sometimes that competition pays Lobby Companies to promote an idea that their opposing product is not good for x, y and z.

In the gaming industry, it seems to translate to ethical considerations on what should or should not be possible or seen in a game.

Personally i say fuck it. I think this game should be disgusting (and i really mean disgusting, even involving activities I wouldnt even participate in) in terms of sandbox potential. Id rant more on this but I feel noone would read, so ill see if anyone responds to this post first XD


I mean ffs, think of all the controversy GTA spurred up, not to mention Postal and Carmegeddon. All eventually surpassed that controversy and paved the way for a dozen other replicas.

It would be cool for DayZ to go uber grim, because as much controversy it might conjure (Or Hammerpoint interactive/ WarZ might lobby for), I think with such a strong community, and such an original concept, it will survive.

BRING ON THE DEAD KIDS!!! XD

Don't worry, I doubt it takes Rocket too much time to remove them for legal issues. Dead Island's logo was too violent for some country and they censored it for them.

I am for authenticism to an extent... and I think it's not authentic to not have female or even child zeds, both should be added but simply to enforce some ethical thinking about your actions and how it will influence you and the way others react to you killing zeds at all should have a negative impact on your humanity at least when you kill them for no reason (read: kill idle zeds) that penalty should definetly be much harsher for children and maybe harsher for killing the opposite sex.

Justification for zed killing penalties? Easy: What if some doctor were to find a cure for their infection/disease being able to fully reverse the effects of it and you killed like 1000 potential human beings with like 300 of them being kids wouldn't you in a real-life scenario think twice about doing so? I most certainly would and would not kill any zeds at all other than for self-defense reasons and even that wouldn't be easy because they didn't choose to engage me they just have to because their sickness makes them be commanded by their instincts. On the other hand this game is open and sure a lot of people wouldn't give a f*ck. Still mass murder should have a psychological effect on you/your character/for other to see/ psychopaths often suffer from mental illness maybe so should people with very low humanity? E.g. seeing zeds/other bandits that aren't there (a.k.a. paranoid hallucinations) causing you to shoot and giveaway your position putting yourself at risk for no apparent reason.

Even if I like the idea it might have pushed it a little bit too far still you guys get the idea.

I'm with 3rdParty on this one. The following DayZ has would allow it to survive any slew of bad press it could potentially receive. I know for a fact, if there were zombie children in game trying to murder your characters face off, and having to kill them to survive truly shook a persons morality and brought about emotional trauma IRL, then the addition was a success, because that's the kind of reaction this project SHOULD be creating.

Every interview I have seen with Rocket, when asked if he intends to make the game more accessible and fun, he plainly states, it was never intended to be fun.

Granted there would probably have to be an option to disable kinderzombies per server. But that should be at the discretion of individuals / admins, not a globally enforced ban on their inclusion.

Far worse things have been portrayed in other forms of art, and taking people further out of their comfort zone than they would expect is well within the scope of this project.

The problem

You want more horror and more terrifying emotions.

Rocket stated he wants the game to be brutal, to be cruel, to bring up all spans of emotions and make people understand somthing. But the means of achieving this can be very much versatile and adding children-zombies is not the best, not the most powerful and not the most desired feature, while it is a most controversial, ethically dangerous one and is at the edge of social taboo limits.

What else can be done to bring in more brutality and emotions?

Expand the zombie idea

  • Add more zombie types
  • add 20 to 60 years old ones
  • fat, slim, hunchbacked, tall and powerful, short and fat
  • make slim run stronger, strike quicker but less cause less damage, while fatter run slower but hit with a chance to knockdown
  • make female zombies who shriek so disgustingly high pitched that the blood runs cold
  • Make the younger ones, looking almost like teenagers and are dangerous and violent, not looking like children, but rather young and strong.
  • Implement zombie hunger - so that if a player is eaten by zombies then they get more stronger and more death makes that area more dangerous because of stronger zombies.
  • Reward players with finite amount of zombies, so that an area can be cleared out of zombies for at least some decent amount of time - that will boost social aspects and get an ability to CREATE safe zones.
  • Make wild zombies, who are forced to go searching for food in the forests scaring the sh*t out of lazy hunters feeling perfectly safe around fire.
  • Make facial animations for zombies, make their mouths open wide for terrifying shrieking or howling, make them look crazy and fearsome
  • Make them dangerous and not an easy prey.

Non-zombie aspects

  • Add bears and wolfes to forests which track players down and attack at night and feed upon boars and cows too and wolf hunting will be an honourable fight
  • add infected water if corpses are rotting nearby some lake
  • meat rotting so that you can't carry it forever and if you eat it you get ill
  • make it so that you can't switch servers to escape nights - will make flares and flashlights a treasure
  • make seasons with winter cold when you just catch cold and die without medicine and shelter, in burning hot summber you'll need more water, more food in winter
  • add rain seasons when no sun appears for a week and everyone is freezing even around fire
  • make food loot finite so that it only regenerates in an area in about a day or couple of hours - it will boost hunting
  • make foraging and poisonous types of mushrooms and berry
  • make more deseases and more physical states
  • make limb damage permanent if no proper timely treatment is given - so that once broken you receive some penalty on doing something - broken arm causes bad aiming, broken legs cause slower limping running and no sprinting, chest damage increases your chance to be killed instantly or get tired fast.
  • Make an ability to construct a monster truck with spiked bumpers and rusty plated windows, with some machine gun on the top or at the fromt window to crush zeds and show everyone your coolness
  • Make an ability to spray paint walls with custom logos (make the logos approved by moderators to reduce legal issues)
  • Make an ability to paint a car, a shirt or jacket with your custom picture.
  • Make a permanent username and link it to CD key. You have permadeath - make permapersonality. That has never been done in MMORPG! You will not only survive physically ingame, you will survive as a personality, you'll bring up your identity. You will be able to experience fame and infamy for your actions. Your name will get into DayZ history. Heroes will get fame, bandits will be feared more. Anonymosity will be eliminated and everyone will think twice, thrice, before commiting stupidity or betreyal, because they will get hunted. The history is nothing without names! DayZ is your stroy now, but yours only. Any bastard can change name to Dr. Wasteland and compromise the name of this honourable person. ADvantages are immence, immersion is tripled, suspence and brutality raised, the value for socializing is boosted.

This list can be expanded enormously further, you know it. Add at least this and everyone will forget the z-kids and never think of them. Zombie children will be nothing but a trifle compared to the amount of brutality and dificulty the features above could bring to the game. DayZ will be a phenomena without a stain of bad reputation in spite of it's brutality...

do you know why the GTA series dont have childrens included? It is because of the child abuse problem. If you dont want the standalone to be sued by some retarded women or children organizations, dont add them

GTA is more tounge in cheek. DayZ is all about emotions and if a game can make me feel uncomfortable killing enemies that would be... well, not awesome obviously but... I don't know, fitting? :)

My opinion is that you should feel horrified about what is happening in the game and child zombies would certainly horrify me!

A game that makes you really wonder about what you are doing philosophically is doing something right.

If it moves you somehow, it is doing something right.

If it makes you think about what is going, it is doing something right.

Take the Hunger Games. The whole thing is messed up. Dictatorship society. Children forced to kill one another for the pleasure of sadistic people. The moral decisions and ideas make the story great, not lend towards it`s destruction.

That is my view, feel free to disagree.

I don't exactly disagree with you. Yes, it would be more *ahem* realistic, but so would needing to repair and use a vehicle to transport parts for another vehicle. IRL I couldn't possibly carry around, let alone sprint around while carrying, say, a spare tire or rotor assembly for a helicopter. There's a couple of metric fucktons of stuff to add/modify for realism.

But rather than go down that particular road, let's focus on the children. "Won't somebody PLEASE think of the children?!" Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Do players want children added simply as yet another target to shoot at? Or do they think that we'll all get enough story/plot to build the involvement of the player to the point where we care about what happened BEFORE we start playing the game. Will we get a two hour movie that introduces us to these kids, will we see them as people, who had names, and hopes and dreams and all the other crap that makes us give a damn about other people? Would most of the players, especially those clamouring to be able to shoot child zombies, even watch it if we did get it?

Otherwise, they're just little monsters, like the big ones, but smaller. Do we really need that? Is it so important to force everyone to shoot child zeds? You know we'd have to. What else, run out of town every time you aggro one of them?

IMO, it's simply not necessary. The effort required to properly implement this would not be worth the benefits, and if it's just thrown in haphazardly, it will have a negative effect on the game.

We are just taking it differently. You are taking it logically and how it would affect the game.

I`m taking it as how it would be viewed by a minority, and how it would all appear in the context of story, whether it be the diary that has been mentioned by Rocket, fan fictions, or the one I plan to write in the standalone.

All points taken, yours are probably the more legit.

It would make it so you have to aim high n' low while fighting off a horde. Also in the standalone with all the improvements to the game this will definitely add to the game play!

i don’t get this discussion, this is a game and i don’t get why would someone be offended with infected kids...as someone allready said, it is not like we are going to shoot at real kids..

...that’s the problem, ppl are accusing music, games, and other arts of art (yes i think making a game is kind of art work), for bad thing that happens around us, but what was with all the bad stuff ppl did before games, what influenced them?

Just another way to get our minds of really important shity things that happens in the world, greedy bankers, brokers, corrupted politicians, mad dogs policeman’s, dirty priests, sensless wars, hunger, kidnapping kids for sexual slavery, murdering animals for their fur etc... it is not the art that makes us do bad things, it just the Human nature. And there will always be normal ppl and bad sick ppl..

We have monster kids in so many movies, games etc. Why should this be an issue for anyone, and now we have infected priests in the game, that could also offend some religious fanatics...

To all the "SAVE THE CHILDREN" people, not the ones who don't take themselves so seriously, but the up their own ass ones, who think they're doing something good by complaining about or simply or denying artistic freedom (Yes, it is)

In a game, where the world is diseased, the infected murder any and all survivors in sight and bandits kill survivors outright also. Would there not be infected children?

There are so many worse things going on (In Real Life), that shouting "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" at a game developer only shows your ignorance (*Flame shield up*)

Chabowsky, I don't speak about 0.1% of psychotic people in this world who just go shoot or stab everyone around after watching Batman or playing GTA. Gosh, everyone knows theyre maniacs.

I tried to explain, that younger people, young generation, ok, schoolboys or younger are exceptionally perceptive in emotional way and can learn thing they never knew without proper mature responsible thinking. I wont allow my son seeing or playing content which is rated beyond his age, and even if approved Ill check it first.

But the rest of parents don't give a damn about what their kids see and learn. And these poor teenagers who got used to violence depiction and ethic and moral carelessness... No, they wont go berserk or kill everyone. I never told that. Those kids you will see filming a car accident on a cell phone to upload to youtube and collect watchers with a title like "A shocking bloody accident! Wow!"... But wont think about calling an ambulance or rushing to help the wounded. Violence, even virtual, breeds cruelty.

Humans are useless weak creatures, but possess two phenomenal powers: power of thinking and ability to adapt. So when you see more violence - you get adapted, you harden, and violence becomes less striking. A person looses compassion and finally ignores any emotional stress. Such people get cruel and selfish. So we must use the first power of thinking BEFORE we do something stupid and then adapt to consequences.

Whatever ratings DayZ will have, oh c'mon, don't pretend, every freaking infant will be playing it, starting at age 12-14. Why the hell you want to risk and add such a controversial thing with such a huge possible bad influence? A child seeing violence towards other child will absorb this fact subconsciously, without any mature reasoning. No one will stress the dramatic message like in a movie. Just learns a model - they show killing zombe kids. Then its okay. And then these kids come here and teach me that its okay, and dare to collect lists of movies with violence or examples of same crap.

Whats wrong with you guyz? How can a sane person tell me "You gotta love all people of all ages or shut the fuck up". You just told me that everyone is equal irrelevant of the age. Are you mad? Whom do people save first in fire? Kids, then women and then elderly. No idea why? Because a child is the future, parenting is an immense emotional bound, an instinct to protect the future, the most beloved creature. And you tell it will scare us ingame very cool, yeah, bring it on, creepy. Its not scary, it's horrifyingly obscene, its not creepy, its cheap and crappy. I wont even install such garbage on my PC. For what reason can I possibly need to see things which counter my insticts. I'm not selfdestructive, thanks.

DayZ is unique and amazing game, but not for violence or brutality, it is about preserving life and surviving. It boosts instincts, but surviving with killing infected child is a very cruel and mean choice if we imagine real life. I wish neither me nor you face this choice. But, yes, consider me ubersensitive on that matter, I wont like to face it even in game.

I simply think it is uneccessary, I don't like the idea of zombie kids and can very well live without it and I really don't see why it would be such a great addition to the game. It's not like i wouldn't buy the game if they did include it though.

Sure you might say it'd only be realistic but the virus could be very well simply be leathal on children and even old people, due to their fragile/not so strong immune systems.

I just read your post, and it sounded to me like the wrong attitude to have. "it's fine to kill people, as long as they are not children." is not the message anyone should be spreading.

I'm not trying to promote violence against children and I'm not here to blame the parents of "those kids you will see filming a car accident" .

Censorship solves nothing (but I bet it makes a LOT of people a LOT of money), and I'm trying to make the example that defending one part of humanity while disregarding the plight of another is not right.

In the context of video games and media, slaughtering countless men and women for entertainment is fine, but to be put in a position where you must defend yourself against a murderous child is somehow unacceptable?

I understand that all parents want to protect their child from such fictional violence, in any form. The age ratings on media in ALL parts of the world are there for this very reason, and I'm not here to debate their application or effectiveness.

The simple fact is, violence has existed since long before videogames.

I've already made my point that to be put in that situation would make players feel uncomfortable and question their morality. In my mind that would be achieving the target/purpose of DayZ

Psychological disorders and violence are not mutually inclusive, and neither can be attributed to videogames or movies (unless you have some secret information I am not party to)

tl:dr -

People are responsible for their own actions, do not blame media.

Nobody deserves more/less sympathy than anyone else.

Zombie children would add to the Nightmare feeling of DayZ.

EDIT: DayZ would not lose anything by ommiting the inclusion of zombie children, but they would help add atmosphere.

No I don't want to see it, yes there would be zombie kids but this would just kill the stand alone's sales because we all know that the media would just chew the game up and spit it out saying it's, "A abomination", "A horrible thing to see in a game, even if it's a zombie game, know one in life could shoot a (say) 8 year-old child even if they are a zombie." and, "What was Mr.Hall thinking! shooting zombie kids that's just morally wrong." See my point?

Just for anyone doubting that infected babies would be added to a game, remember dead space, the necromorph babies of death, and that was accepted and enjoyable the little monsters needed putting out of their misery.
