Tent mechanics - please clarify

I had a camp disappear off my home server and chalked it up to a bad server restart. I logged back in today and my tents are back but all my stuff is gone. Not only that but two additional empty tents have spawned in the same place.

Ok so I have put up two tents, Both in differnt locations on the map. When i pitched the first one I put a m16 in and some ammo plus medical supplies and and food, At this time there were many other players on the server with me, As I then went to my second location Pitched the tent done the same thing as the first.

Now here is my question. When I went back to tent number 1, all the gear had gone, at the time i had put it down to maybe some one found it and looted it in the time it took me to, by the time i had reached the first tent to find it was empty there was no longer any one in the server with me, and when i went back to the second tent, the same thing had happened, all the gear was gone.

The server didnt restart, Both tents were saved, and i had Logged out for a 10 minute period before logging back into the game again.

Is Standard with tents for them to do this in shuch a short period of time?

My tents are saving correctly atm.

I'm not sure how they work, but whenever I place a tent, I never place any valuable gear in it, untill next server restart. I'll either leave it empty or place a can of food or a pile of wood in it.

Tents can change after server resets, so it's best to wait for one server reset before placing items in them.

I have had a tent and car be swallowd up. When i went to the respawn of the car it was MIA. I personally think hacker just spend all day ruining people HOURS AND HOURS of work.

did you log out in a short time from one of them? sometimes it takes a lot to save your char..i don't know when exactly you logged out..both seems strange! there was enough stuff to say a solo player could not take everything away?

Ours are saving grandly finally. Pitch, wait a couple of minutes then put gear in, wait a few more minutes then save. So far we have saved tents in a tree trunk base, across a small rock wall, in the open, side by side to each other and on a slope. They are working..like a tent :)

Only tent that did not save items was on a slope, under a tree and partly in a rock, obviously a bad combo.

thanks for that.

I think its just a few bugs, Ill just have to get used to the system, i more wanted to check that this wasnt a common occurance otherwise it would just make tents worthless for me.

just checked my base and mine did not save about 3 days worth of just looking for gear.... nice.. gg rocket... this is BS not having all that work save because you can't get your head out of your ass and actually fix the simple yet very very needed stuff.

Seems to be random but they save eventually. As a general rule, put an item you don't mind losing in your tent and wait for a restart. If it's still there after restart, the tent's good to go.

Even if it's not still there, it will probably still work. Tents seem to reset occasionally after the first restart, but then they work fine regardless.

From my personal experience anyway. The best way to mitigate loss is to have multiple tents :D.

I only play for an hour in the evening (GMT) on European low pop servers.

When I come back 24 hours later, I have no idea whether the server has been restarted during that period.

So how do you guys know that a server has been restarted?

How do you know how often a server is restarted?

I know about: http://dayzmonitor.com, but a list of the last dozen restarts doesn't really help.

Thanks.

One thing is for sure, if you try to place it in a tree expect to die.

Guilty as charged...

It was the first time I have ever found a tent. Found it inside somebody else's tent. Took the tent and some food, ran off, and was establishing my first ever base a few clicks away. At least that was what I planned. Trying to be clever and conceal the tent by pegging it in between a group of trees. Half a minute later I'm crawling around with broken legs swearing.

Now it's either crawling for at lest an hour and a half to the nearest hospital, or restarting.

AAaarghh!

Check back after server restart. Sometimes they dissapear until server restart. That or somebody destroyed your tent.

Tents can't be destroyed permanently - you can flat tents but they will appear in good shape after server restart...
