freeman83 51 Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) Something like this with dayz?I like the receiver copy idea, I would play with my guns all day long ^^Yep their idea is great, but their are far simpler ways to do it. Instead of using a dome, omni directional tred mil and a projector, it could be done with just a vr headset (Oculus Rift) and motion sensor (Leap or Kinect 2.0). Instead of gesture recognition, my idea was that through the motion sensor your in game avatar would mimic your every movement like a mirror, With the low latency and high fidelity of the new generation of motion sensors coming out this is achievable. Zeppa 562 Posted September 10, 2012 True, but with that you still have to use something else to move your char than your body. But It would be nice tho if you could just wave for ppl or give the middle finger :D
Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) So first, the Occulus is just a concept, there is the 3Dvisor from emagin that is already out and does the same thing . for head tracking, trackIR is an exellent technology, very precise and accurate (they both already work for arma) and for a custom setup they have the optitrack solution i believe. It would also bring an interesting reality, most of the DayZ players are not fit to jog across chernarus on a simulator :)But back on topic, "receiver style" weapon handling. OrLoK 16185 Posted September 10, 2012 Hello thereafter spending some time with Receiver (thank's OP!) I have now come to the conclusion that all FPS's need this mechanic. At first it's cumbersome and almost irritating, but now I can't do without it.I used to have a 1911 and although that is long gone, now I can relive having it in game (shame we cant field strip it), worth investing a fiverRgdsLoK

B)I'm glad you tried it and liked it. Even if you didnt like it i respect the fact that you made that leap to check it out instead of being immediately dissmisive like some people are around here. Beans for you! Edited September 10, 2012 by freeman83
OrLoK 16185 Posted September 11, 2012 Hello thereI love the game, the youtube vids just don't do it justice. For £3.60UK it's a bargain. And the new updates are groovy too.I'm thinking about knocking up some weapon models for it as the game seems to use FBX files through UNITY.I can understand peoples reticence to this kind of mechanic and indeed I also thought that way. But now I have been bitten by the bug and it really adds to the realism, for the first time in years, I almost feel like i'm holding and operating a real weapon. But, it's the animations etc that make it superb and as DAYZ/Arma stands I don't know if its possible. Just adding a bunch of keys to press to load ones weapon at the moment would be painful.A damn interesting idea though, I'd love to see it ingame.RgdsLoK

colekern 1364 Posted September 12, 2012 The current controls would have to have massive amounts of fat trimmed.

enforcer1975 1111 Posted March 2, 2013 Something like this with dayz?I like the receiver copy idea, I would play with my guns all day long ^^How will you simulate beeing bitten?? Having some guys with dogs around you perhaps? :DSomeone is modding this in for Arma 2. Looks interesting.. Altough it's interesting ppl might get confused really quick with too many steps in between. One thing i don't like is the fact that you know how many rounds are in a magazine by looking inside, you can't see all the way down so imo it's a downer in that simulation, the ACE solution was quite good using weight as a measurement ( i could assume how many bullets i have in the magazine by up to +-2 rounds ). BIS should model the guns right so if you look at your gun you should be able to see what fire mode you have selected just as an example of many...
amazed 17 Posted July 4, 2013 Hello thereI would like something similar to this in game. But i'm a tech realism freak. It may not be for everyone. The only thing i don't like is the dreadful youtube reviewer. (I also don't like him dry firing that 45)RgdsLoKI am a sucker for realism in 'games' (this is serious god damn it!) as well and last time I checked DayZ is supposed to cater to a very specific group of people that like their games brutal, unrelentless and unforgiving. In short they are expecting a hardcore gaming experience. So with that in mind I absolutely think that realistic gun part mechanics beyond 'press R to reload' should be part of the game. Make it a server switch so server admins have the choice if you must, but do implement this. Here is a more concise clip demonstrating the receiver gun part mechanics:
OrLoK 16185 Posted July 4, 2013 Hello thereJust a quick heads up, if you take a peek at the date of the last post before yours you'll see its very old. What we prefer one does is start a new thread on the topic if the threads a few months old.I do agree though that having a gun in game should have more to it than point and click or press R.RgdsLoK
