Arma 2's mechanics make dayz lame

Recommended Posts

You didn't purchase it, you won't change the engine the mod is on, and (as I told you before) you won't change the one the standalone is on.

Arma 2 is one of the most counter intuitive shooters I have ever played..

No wonder, considering the fact that ARMA2 is a simulation, not a shooter. Could another engine serve DayZ standalone better? Sure, if you can find/develop one. Did the ARMA2 engine enable a rather unique mod like DayZ in the first place? Yes, since most other engines are fit for completely different games.

Seriously why are we even playing, when we can't bunny hop or dolphine dive at all?

Luckily we still have .50 cals and thermal L85A or COD kids would probably have to go elsewhere :-(.

Dafuq? ARMA II's mechanics make DayZ. Without the former there wouldn't be the latter.

Not sure if trolling or just stupid. <_<

This is not a twitch shooter it's a military simulator. Gameplay wise, it hasn't changed since operation flashpoint 11 years ago. It's part of what the BIS fans like. You could have tried Arma2Free if you wanted to get a feel of the game.

  • Soldiers do not jump around on the battlefield so arma doesn't allow to jump at all.
  • You cannot move indoor easily with an assault rifle raised hence why arma actually simulate your gun hitting the surrounding.
  • This isn't a run and gun game so it make sense that vaulting and ladder climbing isn't exactly the focus here.
  • Until arma2 you couldn't reload while moving, which was realistic, but probably annoying.

If rocket picked arma as a base for his mod it's that he felt it was the path of least resistance, a game where most of what he wants in it is already there.

When I first tried arma, I was like: "WTF IS THIS SHI~". The controls are CONFUSING to a newbie. However, once I got used to them, I'm quite satisfied with how the game works. It's something quite different than I'm used to, and I have no problem learning new things. I would hate for this to change.

This community has become so poisonous that speaking out against a clearly outdated engine invites fantastic levels of fanboy rage.

OP is clueless most of thing he has problem with are not because of engine limitation. It's already confirmed VR engine (arma engine) is going to be used in standalone. In standalone they are going to change controls, make new animations, add melee attack that is actually melee attack. Dayz is limited just because they don't adjust the engine but just mod the game. For people who thinks that VR engine is only for Arma go check Carrier Command: Gaea Mission its strategy game build on VR2 (Arma 1 engine)

Sooooo true. This place is like the dark ages. You speak out against something even in the most minor of ways and you get torched at the stake.

What do you hope to achieve through "speaking out" though?

You want to see fanboy rage?, go over to Bistudio forums and see for yourself. It has taken them around a year to accept the fact that Arma 3 is going to have ragdoll. Some of the Fanboy retards didnt want it and preffered the crappy death anims. they thought it was an unnecassary gimmic. lol

Dayz' issues are not the hackers, the bandits or the fact that its in alpha, its issues are that it is an Arma 2 mod. Too bad this game wasnt made with the half life engine....left for dead anyone? The game would instantly be better.

lmao, yes a game with no iron sights and no leaning, and no prone would be WAY better... good news... L4D is already available and it's built on the HL engine... bye!

I guess it's just that tiny, small glimmer of hope we have that someday, the devs may look down upon us and maybe acknowledge our existence. And only if we are the luckiest of the lucky, may they possibly actually listen to our pleas and cries of agony and change something in our favor.

Whereas with you, being pessimistic, say "NO HOPE!"

I think your being to kind, some people have no imagination and cannot visualise how much better the improvements could make the game. They would rather hang on to their mummys titty because thats what they know and they fear the unkown.

The only other game engine I'd like to see used would be grand theft auto... but I'd want all the survival aspects kept and more realism added to the gameplay... which would be A LOT of work.

Only reason I say this is cause this game set in a more urban environment with more vehicles and no easy escape to "the forest just outside town" to ditch zombie aggro would make it even more terrifying.

Realistic actually.

You will not change the engine the mod is on, and as I keep telling you, the standalone engine is most likely chosen too.

But you keep on stomping your feet in your mistaken effort to change the engine.

In retrospect, I agree that playing the game like left 4 dead isnt the answer. I just wish the controls were a little more user friendly.

I played arma 2 for about an hour and half and absolutely hated it. Not my kind of game. But, Dayz is very cool and I am enjoying it, minus the controls.

So basically, what you're saying is if I put my own money into purchasing a game, and it turns out to be a total POS, I am not entitled to even speak of what should be done about it? Just be like "OH, well then, they sure fuck'd me!"

You have the right to complain, but not on the damn mod forums man.
