I think having a powergrid to light up towns would be great' date=' but make it challenging to complete. This would add teamwork elements on both the survivor/bandit sides, and would give some reprieve to the night issues people have, just stick to towns.

But every benefit comes with danger, zombies are attracted to both the power stations, and the now lit up towns. Maybe have random horde spawners that go towards lit up towns, increase zombie spawns in lit up towns, increase sight range of zombies in lit up towns, just add tons of dangers to it.

I agree on those parameters for zombies.

This is also suppose to go side by side with Player runs town: http://www.dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=6976 so some of the things will not always happen ;)

I do like the idea of zombies being attract to lit up towns very much throw, if players have seized a town, they should still have that danger factor.

This would be a very demanding task therefor it is a good task that requires teamwork; getting the lights back on would benefit everyone and that is a reward in itself.

me too, it seems to be quite supported by the community, i've even had a forum admin message me about it being a good idea ;) but no dev's have talked about it, at least not here :(

I found a generator the other day which spawned in a apartment block.

This idea is awesome, as long as it doesn't become overly complexed. It would be fun to head into a town and light it up, put barbedwire up around it and defending it from zombies.

I've herd rumor that it was in game, but it's not functional.

And I hope it doesn't become to complicated too :P

Your idea need some huge work. Your time template is completly screwed and unrealistic. Nobody will baby sit a generator or anything every hours. You would need the whole server filled with the same clan... completly unrealistic goals.

Balance it out.

I said in the disclaimer, all numbers and what not are placeholders, the finial choice is up to the dev.

instead of saying its bad and adding just balance it out, please add more detailed and convincing ideas to the thread to help it progress and become a good game feature.

Would like a feature similar to barbed wire, if placed at the door of a building, prevents zeds from going thru it and nobody can spawn inside, but a get warning notice to try another server or be spawned outside the building. Keeping the power station safe for all imo

i thought of an item you might need for this

Electrical cables

add this with the existing toolbox and jerry can and you are set ?

maybe scrap metal and spark plugs or engine parts

as for save places or guarding the area

if the time slot for usage is limited, you just need a few people maybe just one sniper/marksman with a m4sd or winchester to ward off the incoming zombies

cables are used to transfer and or repair the generators one time use for cables when repairing and multi use for hooking up things (all battery powered items incl. gps and maybe car battery ?)

no problem =p I think it stopped a lot of the arguments against it in it's tracks lol, I don't have a problem with constructive criticism but that was ridiculous .

I didn't really know what to put in the requirements so i kinda just guessed with spark plugs and shit lol

I guess cables could be used for it =p

I was thinking about making the zombies just be lured to the generator/power plant rather then attack it.

the maintenance mechanic will break it on it's own, the zombies will just make it harder to repair it.

Say, if the power plant is on and no one is near, more zombies spawn there.

if players are there zombies spawn on the out skirts of it and walk towards the plant.

would love to see this +1 from me it would realy motivate me to organize some sort of gouverment and an active radio station would make this even better making some kind of wastland musik radio like u had in fallout having scouts and bandit hunters out there wich get informed by radio just some toughts on how to use th new gained power

I think there should be some sort of mini objective to activate the power grid (needing teamwork) and some sort of reward

I like the idea except for the "reward" part.

I think putting light up is its own reward. Groups could synchronize movement and light up the city right when its time to fire on some bandits.

brilliant idea. imagine you and your clan are walking down a street and suddenly the whole place lights up and gunshots are coming from all directions. even being on the receiving end of that would be pretty fun.

Thanks ;) seems a lot of people do think it is.

Having lights coming on/off being a unkown factor would be a huge. add a lot of dept to the game.

Itd be sick if there were like volcano/earthquake/tsunami/some other early warning alarm system in some the towns.

You know the typical horn blow before stock footage of the london blitz or before things become really dark and murky in Silent Hill.

I dunno, i think it could possibly add an extra element to this.

May not be useful for suprise ambushes. But if a group has set up a base and overwhelming majority against you, itd be good way to have that base overrun with zeds so a small group of you can mop up the aftermath XD

I've suggested a heavy mist witch would effect gameplay.

but I don't know how possible a earthquake and others would be. I mean if the map started shaking, players would prob die from glitching threw the map and shit

throw the heavy mist I suggested, could be added to this. I'll work on a new thread topic on the subject.
