Get rid of all the sniper rifles

Recommended Posts

One the other hand, if somebody wants to re-establish order and society, he can't. The game lacks in tools to support that. Bandits, they only need bigger, badder guns. There are plenty. So eventually people are still forced down one route: Be a bandit.

That's not true at all. You just can't do it alone. If there would be enough people regularly playing on one server, they could very well establish themselves as some sort of 'law enforcement' and hunt down bandits. It's just that no one does because it's easier to be a bandit.

Meh, you don't get it. A guy with a sniper is obviously a cold-blood killer. I mean, nobody play with teams, right? Nobody cover anybody while doing a speedrun in NWAF / Stary / Devil castle.

Noooooo.

It is obvious everybody is a lone wolf & it is impossible to team up with people, how silly is that?

I hope that with your einstein IQ you can feel the irony in my post, teddy bear.

I personally kind of agree with OP. But I wouldnt want to get rid of them all. As an example I say get rid of NVGs, L85A2 AWS, rangefinders, AS50/M107 maybe even DMR. Why these ? Well because they are creating an unfair advantage, I know this game is not meant to be balanced but we could just get rid of some of these things and we would get rid of much bigger problems like server hopping snipers in ghillies with AS50/M107 because they wouldnt be able to shoot with "worse" rifles or they would have to engage from different locations, easier to get spotted from. I dont know if you get what Im trying to get to, but if you do, and you disagree go on reply politely. Thanks

Yeah as I have said in some other threads: There should be less guns and less ammo. I have no problem with military grade sniper rifles, but I do have a problem with everybody and their mother finding them and killing everybody for no reason.

Law enforcement with just players is not feasible in game. People have real life to worry about, and sabotaging is always easier than constructing. People need tools to rebuild cities, fortifications, and need AI to guard said settlements 24/7.

Yes, and then half of the items like flares, chemlights, etc would actually be useful. I don't even THINK about touching that stuff with all the NVG's running around (or playing at night for that matter, as much as I'd love to). Dealing with zombies and a crap flashlight is hard enough.. Players? Forget about it.. It's difficult enough to see as is, and the current way to use flashlights is stupid. I wouldnt mind so much if they just made it to where I could carry a sidearm AND flashlight at the same time. That's honestly not difficult, even in the real world. Just that ONE change would make things a little more appropriate I think.

Tell me what would I raid for when all of my buddies have NVG, AS50, Ghillie Suit, and whatnot?

I would shy away from AI. Theres a post somewhere talking about rocket's interview with FPSGuru. One of the discussion points was Rocket's intent to make creating outposts feasible and worthwhile. Hopefully this comes to fruition.

Be creative einstein. Hunt other camps, vehicles, whatever, you're a grown-up, i'm not going to do all the work for you...

ALL of your buddies have those things? Really?

Then you're either duping or you don't very many buddies.

My group of 6 have been looting for weeks. Everyone has hundreds of hours in-game. We have found 3 pairs of NVGs total, and lost one last night in a firefight.

This thread is a directionless mess. What problem are you trying to solve, exactly?

And how do you propose I play tactically and cover my friends while they loot highly dangerous, exposed areas?

There's a reason chopper crashes are in the middle of fields and not in forests, you know that right? To make them hard to loot safely?

Now I can use my DMR or AS50 and stay in the treeline to cover my brother while he loots.

In your world we would both have to run up there like a couple of idiots and get killed by one nubcake with a lee enfield crouching in the bushes.

Fuck that and fuck this thread.

Sorry to be harsh but it's a terrible suggestion with no rational backing that would undermine critical tactical elements of the game.

And this game will never, ever have AI "guards," ever. So lets not go down that road okay?

Ok, no A.I.. Then suggest something which doesn't require people to quit their daytime job to be a virtual cop.

Sure, would you be a sweetheart and phone Rocket and tell him to bring me a working stove, flour, milk, sugar, baking soda to Electro ASAP? Thanks a bunch.

Before I say anything I'm just going to say i'm not against the completer removal of sniper rifles, or any weapon for that matter.

You say that like the it is the only way to be safe in your proposed helicrash looting situation. You're probably right. The sniper rifle does fit into that scenario perfectly and taking it out would mean the un-necessary risk of your group. But why is that bad? Not being All powerful is better in my opinion. I think slowly entering an unknown area with a pistol and an axe and relying on my wits to get me through is much more adrenaline pumping and intense than hiding and shooting someone who doesn't even see me.

That video sums it up for me pretty well i think.

Right now everyone is too armed and too trigger happy. Guns should be a heavily sought after resource. I'm not saying people should all hold hands and skip, if someone has a gun that you want and are ready to kill for, fucking kill him! Do it! I don't care, if you think you need that gun enough to kill someone for it you should have that opportunity. Follow him, sneak up on him and axe his ass, or hold him up. I have no problem with people being bandits. I have a problem with people on hills sniping other people for no fucking reason whatsoever. That's not surviving. That's ruining the game.

Call of Cathulu which was used an example in the above video is a thrilling game despite of horrible graphics and physics(if any) because of limitaion of power.

I don't find snipers a problem. You say they sit outside of large popular areas and snipe people. Guess what, you are exactly right. They are sitting there and they'll get a couple of kills then troll o loll comes along with his trusty hatchet just a herp derping and spots retard thinking he's all invisible sitting in the woods and wacks that mofo to death.

These guys can't snipe from that many locations and crying about them is retarded. Claiming you've done it is even more retarded because if you have then you would know too many people like me are killing those snipers off for easy loot that they are becoming more rare by the day.

Wait a minute, if your saying your getting bored sniping with your buddies, then why the hell don't you just go out there with an Assault Rifle? Problem solved, this whole conversation is then evaded :S

Lets get rid of the guns altogether and... the "zombies", as you put it, too. Who likes dying? Not you, no.

Lets replace the "zombies" with ponies and replace the guns with cute accessories! That would be the perfect game for you wouldn't it?

Oh wait, that already exists:

http://www.hasbro.co...:en_MY&DUMPIT=0

Off you go.

Ugh, alright. Yes, you're very cute. Yes, you are very good at being an ass on the internet.

This realm13 kid, yes is kind of a bitch, but he raises a valid point. Snipers are used for one thing only, murdering people from a long distance. They are not for collecting supplies, they are not for defense. They are antii-realism in that nothing constructive from their use. They have expensive ammunition that wouldn't be used so willy nilly in a real zombie apocalypse.

Realm13 argues that snipers ruin the experience because when you get one, the game ends and it becomes a shooting gallery. This point is valid. Early game and the death of players is necessary. It evolves the player pool with the weaker, bitchier players abandoning this game.

But, no, the sarcasm is helpful and constructive. Also, the fuck do you mean by "'zombies' as you put it"? He means zombies. This is a zombie game. Sure, the zombies are speedy meth heads, but they're zombies nonetheless. It's called Day Zombie for flying fuck's sake.

All powerful? What the fuck?

Even if I am covering him, the odds are good that any prepared ambush is going to go off before I can do anything to stop it with my sniper rifle. Chances are good that I will be watching his corpse and waiting for his return, upwards of an hour spent motionless in the bushes.

That's "all powerful" to you?

You seem to have a very skewed perspective on both the effectiveness of sniper rifles and their applications in the game.

I think slowly entering an unknown area with a pistol and an axe and relying on my wits to get me through is much more adrenaline pumping and intense than hiding and shooting someone who doesn't even see me.

I would rather use my wits to safeguard an area from afar. Close proximity requires more wits? Your wits are better than my wits?

Effective sniping requires extreme amounts of patience, preparation and perserverence. You have to evaluate the terrain in an area to safely find a spot that gives you a sight picture without exposing you to fire. You have to plan escape routes. You have to know which direction likely attackers are going to come from and plan to respond. Most of all, you have to be vigilant, ever-aware, always scanning nearby hilltops and treelines for the slightest motion.

And when the fighting starts you have to track down targets from hundreds of meters away. Trying to spot a small puff of smoke or muzzle flash from the treeline that could be half-a-mile's distance.

Again, this notion you have that snipers just "go sit on a hill" is hogwash. It has no basis in reality.

I have no problem with people being bandits. I have a problem with people on hills sniping other people for no fucking reason whatsoever. That's not surviving. That's ruining the game.

That's also not really happening that often.

Unless you're trying to spam loot the airfields, in which case I have zero fucking sympathy for you, then you're not getting sniped that often. Not unless you're being incredibly careless and standing motionless in open fields or on tops of buildings.

I have played 600+ hours of this game and travel with 5 companions and we have lost two survivors to snipers. Total. In our entire time in the game.

People camp the airfields and occasionally Cherno/Elektro.

Stay away from those places, travel with disrection and remain unseen. You will not meet snipers.

If you do meet a sniper, use the available optics in the game to counter-snipe and your problem will go away quickly.

Trying to type up a response to his ridiculous paragraph but I can only come up with one word: bullshit.

Okay. Maybe a couple more words. Like "ridiculous bullshit."

Less than 12 hours ago my team was ambushed while looting a helicopter. 3 clan members jumped and killed my friend while he looted the chopper.

Thankfully we had an M107 and AS50 positioned nearby with sight picture on the chopper.

We waited patiently and when the bandits emerged to loot we took out 2 instantly and the other we chased off.

We acquired the bandits' loot and were also able to recover my friend's gear.

Without the sniper rifles, we would have been helpless to do anything but run out into the open guns blazing and hope for the best.

No preparation. No tactics. No planning. No patience. Just spray-and-pray Halo style. Fuck that, okay? Fuck that.

So, please, take your "one use and one use only" bullshit and blow it out your ass.

Again, I'm not crying because I got sniped by snipers in the woods. I have died at most once from that. All I'm saying is what

drseptapus have explained very well in the above post: empowering players too much in a horror game is a bad idea.

Amenesia is a great example of disempowering(is that word?) player in a horror game, and it works. Although maybe too extreme (for people who haven't played it, this game doesn't give you any means to fight your enemies), but it DOES make the game more scary, intensive, and adrenaline-pumping than most of action/horror game out there.

I love DayZ so I come to the suggestion board to express my idea. I'm not here to troll or whine. I could very much do that in the general forum. Whoever else loves DayZ should realize that before coming in here and insult (not targeted at the quoted poster btw).

Nope. Snipers are apart of the game and will not be taken out. And just to let you know, large calibre rifles are very loud and attract zombs from a long ways. People easily hear it to.
