Damn people got itchy trigger fingers.

Is this CodZ?

After being friendly for 14 characters i now kill on sight...not worth trying to be nice.

Realize this game came out post-PUBG. This game has been available for only a week now. A fresh player has no idea what etiquette even is. Give it time.

I actually agree with this. When these people that KOS actually get some help, they will become a neutral bandit.

Personally the first few days I was friendly, actually talked to most people and shared some good adventures. I think the only times you get that are when you are building your kit.

Half the fully geared people dont care and just shoot cuz they have spare ammo. Or that's how they play the game. No biggy, just it is what it is.

30% are friendlies turned bandit hunter, but are actually bandits. I'm part of multiple DayZ groups and I see so many posts of people claiming to be hunters that just say, "if I see you and you have a full kit, I'll shoot, no questions asked. Especially if you are at the spawn zones". Now this mentality is fine but you're justifying your trigger finger with saying, oh you're probably a bandit. This is wrong because a true hunter, with ettiqute, would watch them for 10 min. If they see the prey opening fire on everyone, well, that's the time to shoot. Plus if it's a 2v2 or 1v1 or whatever, and the person getting attacked won, then they would run up with a hot mic and offer to bandage, feed, or give water. Yes they hunt bandits, but they help too. Sometimes.

The remaining 20% are the full kits or fresh spawns who genuinely help, and only shoot if they get shot at. They offer food, water, whatever they can spare.

Because of the way this game works, you switch up roles to keep it fresh. And that's fine. Say you get killed by a sniper or whatever. When you spawn, you grab a gun and kill some people. Satisfy the bloodlust then you're back on the adventure.

Personally If you talk first, my guard is down, and I'll chill. But if you start talking like a bandit or like you wanna set me up, I'll dip. You follow, I fire. Then there are times I'm almost asking for someone to kill me, so I can start a new adventure. 10 days on this character, kitted many times, travelled all the east and west and central parts of the map/ cut through trees, I wanna start over. The fun for me is creating a story. That being said, if I'm going out, considering how i have 4 M4 mags, 4 AK mags, 5 cans of food and 2 bottles of water at all times, plus a spare ammo, I'm gonna dump as much of it as I can. Either in a gunfight or running away and just dropping what I can, hoping that they dont check the building or tree I'm in as they see me running.

Things will change. But if we were all friendly, we wouldnt shoot anything. The bandits and the KOS people ensure the game stays fun. That being said, considering as how with 1 or 2 chest shots, you're dunzo, if you get spotted first, odds are you're out. But not all the time. I've been hit with an ak bullet, bandaged, and unloaded a half mag of M4 into the guy chasing me that walked up the stairs with the gun down. But hey. 2 AKM shots to the chest on some decent armor, gotta be aware.

People will change or move on.

DayZ has been around in one form or another for 6 years plus.

This will never change.

I personally made the decision after making the above thread, that I would not KoS. And I've stuck to that for over 2,000 hours between the mod and SA.

^You all should really be reading the other sections of the forum as well as the Xbox section for a broader view of DayZ.

Talking first will always open you up to more diverse experiences, if that interests you. Never trust a stranger in a random encounter. Don't turn your back on them and try to keep a safe distance. Remember, even people you played with for hours could turn on you at a moments notice. Be aware of when people are using outside chat to bring in friends. But also know, there may be like minded people out there, people you can have adventures with for years to come.... but only if you talk first.

Stay frosty.

Currently the game doesn't give you a real purpose or any kind of End Game. So you can be the friendliest teddy bear on Chernarus, but once you get all geared up and realize you cannot build anything - you just lose purpose. Morality and imagination becomes an option only, instead of a being real and a crucial factor.

Add to that the server hopping problem that allows you to harvest any location, you can get fully geared in about an hour, and go on hunting players.

Once the servers will be stable, we will be able to play a stable and continuous game, then add bug fixes and missing animations, then get time moving (should be done ASAP/yesterday in my opinion) + get missing content + get night stuff working, and maybe then ...

I believe that resetting all players on the next stable update AND also when 1.0 comes out, would be nothing but fair.

Cannot agree more. I would love to get on a stable 'regular' server, set up shop in one of those flat block style buildings with tents and barrels and just be sniper overwatch. We can wish?

Server hopping is a problem, I believe you can get your character locked in a database for it, but even this isn't permanent, personally, I don't get why people do it, It kills the enjoyment.

Roll on further updates.

Well the other way to do it is to mimic exile mod. It's an arma 3 specific mod meant to be like dayz, but has so much more. Bases, planes, choppers, Humvees, tanks, trains, etc. So many guns it's crazy. I actually downloaded arma 3 all last night and installed the mods just to try it.

The difference is Arma 3 Exile actually encourages you to pvp heavily. Each spawn zone has a full kit for you. An smg/AR/Sniper, gear, food, water, backpacks, armor, etc. So you spend less time searching and more time in intense situations.

Personally with the roadmap for DayZ, I firmly believe it will turn out a halfway Exile Mod. Once bases, cars, and some more weapons get added, throw in disease, broken limbs, zombie infection, etc. We got the game that will slow down the bandits. Or, it turns everyone into a bandit. Which isnt necessarily a bad thing. But if everyone is a bandit, they gotta give you a kit at spawn in like the first 3 houses you search.

If by chance the DayZ road map includes a new map... oh man. Like what if they made the Arma Apex map, the jungle and fishing villages, but turned for DayZ... oh the possibilities.

I'd also like to see tougher zombies, not so much with health, but damage and infections and such. If they threw in a random horde, like were talking 200-400 zombies walking through cherno, solinichy, electro, airfield, whatever. It would get intense. 1 zombie spots you you got 200 zombies to escape.

The arma mods did a great job. And if we can get half the features from those, DayZ for xbox then eventually PS4 will be amazing and have an incredibly bright future.

i am completely on board for the zombie horde parts, I can imaging sitting up top up on the roof of a highrise building with zombies pouring along the streets, having to play your moves carefully and sit and 'wait it out' until the horde passes.

Not so sure about the whole exile thing with alot more loot, would kinda make dying less of a risk.. I like the current loot system, as damaged as it is. I think it could be a good extra mode, kinda like another option when choosing servers, so the guys who want to play this kind of mode have full access to it.

I'm excited for this game to take off, I probably won't be around to play it (re-locating to another country and leaving all my possessions behind) but I'll sure as hell be watching from twitch/youtube etc.

You make some excellent suggestions though! Hopefully the devs take note!

Well you gotta remember that's player made mods and not hosted on official. It was the first thing I noticed. Literally 5 min in, I had a full kit. 15 min, I had a full backpack and was working on finding fuel and tires for a car.

Maybe not so much on the loot drops, keep the loot as is, but make the hord. I've watched videos of intense moments of people fueling a car, they go to a store, the horde shows up, it gets agro, they have to board windows, climb to roofs, find ways to escape. They had to fall so they broke their legs, barely making it to the car.

That type of gameplay will add a much needed pve. But because of that the bandits have something to do. We build bases, raid, go on night ops. All of that.

Personally I'd like to see something like they did with vigor. Add in a few supply drops or objective missions. Like infiltrate airfield to get helicopter or something. Then you just see a massive 30 player fight for the heli, then cuz its night, the zombie horde comes in an wipes everyone, so everyone loses gear and no one gets heli.

The 1 smart soul waiting and overwatching in the guard tower swooped in. Fuels the heli, gets good gear, and bam. Back to base.

These types of fights are needed! It would be amazing.

Take the xbox and dayz. That's all you need :)

Mods are only a reaction of the community to a disappointment or lack of content in any game.

If DayZ will live up to our expectations - most of the Mods will not be needed by anyone. Of-course, there will always people who will look to improve/change their game-play with mods, it's only natural.

Plus, remember that BI is trying to get a fresh start for the game with a new engine, so a lot of the contents needs to be re-designed/re-animated/re-think'ed over.

You can take for example the new controller for the game, I believe this was done as a first step to make PC and Consoles interface and control look and feel the same.

I see where you are coming from but the arma series was a large success pre mod.

Same goes for fallout.

Same goes for skyrim.

Same goes for ark.

The devs sponsor mods. Mods allow people creativity to run without developing a game. I think it is quite the opposite. If a sponsored modder continues to make mods, that shows their love for the game and the desire to share what they believe to be worthwhile content.

If you don't believe me, I suggest checking out the DayZ Mod, which came from arma 2. Then look at some arma 3 mods and see what they are doing to the game. They bring it life.

Mods are healthy, especially dev sponsored mods. And also I'm not saying mod dayz, i thought they already have dayz mods or are working with community for modding. I'm saying take elements from the mod.

I love dayz, but if dayz stays as it is for 8 months, I'm gonna be bored.

They take solid mod ideas and make it dayz style, I'll continue to love and play. Hordes, bases, cars, guns, infections, leeches, swamp fever. The list goes on. The game we are playing now started out as a mod, just fyi. And if it really continues to grow, we have been talking about the possibility of its growth... simple elements we have noticed from other games, mods, whatever. But they all have 1 common feature. The arma 3 exile, the arms 2 dayz, days standalone, all are the same game, with different features. Some mods focus on night survival with scary monsters. Others quests. It's a world of imagination and people still play these mods, 6 years later

I am familiar with the history and evolution of DayZ. Did not play anything but DayZ.

Just saying that today DayZ is well recognized and have a huge fan base of players - the active players, new players and those who tasted it 5 years ago and are eager to play it on it's full version, depths and glory that it deserves. Nothing more ;)

What is this KOS of which you speak? I think I have heard of it once many many longtime ago. Is it bigger than a fish? Is it smaller than a grass-snake ? what is it.
When I seek it I cannot find it.   Must I do all this myself?    Where is the path to the KOS ?
Can I CHOOSE not to KOS?
Am I a Player? .. can I not KOS if I feel not to KOS ?   Where is rule that says I must KOS or I will be kicked from server?
Show me.

Sorry about the funny language in the last post, Bombarding - I guess you missed my point a little (no blame for that)  :

In DayZ I don't have to KOS or PVP unless I want to.

People are KOS to me because our group eats them :P Nothing like a huge group of like 7+ people running around laughing from brain disease with blood all over our hands wearing the Payday Wolf mask. Not much else to do in the game so we make our own fun lol

The way I see it was first few days it was everyone trying to help one another and after the grace period ended (3-4) days after launch it was help bambies out if there not a threat or get killed and looted, I usually ty the peaceful approach first but once a weapon is raised or there running at me with a weapon in hand it’s just the world’s language from there on out, specially in high loot/military areas

That's not true. What about games like 1993 DOOM. You couldn't really be disappointed about that game, there wasn't anything to compare it to. It was awesome and had awesome mods. Hell, what about Gary's MOD. Or insane things like Abobo's Big Adventure.

Here I agree with you Tarkules. At least for the majority of TES series.

Only if you hunt the beach with a dress and splitting axe. That's how us real cannibals do it.

Private servers. It's the only way.
