Status on basic needs / loot / weather = survival

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,
I stopped playing about a year ago, after I was well equipped and had lots of supplies within days of playing. Far too much loot, few Zombies and no real weather meant nothing to survive. Only PvP was left, but kill for what ? Now I'd love to come back, so please allow me some simple, basic questions :

- Is food/water rare now that you have to go out hunting/fishing/killing and looting in the more dangerous towns ?
- ls weather (rain, storms, low temps) back that clothing/shelter is really needed ?
- Are Zeds back in numbers everywhere or only in the bigger cities ?

thank you

If you play on experimental. Pretty much.

If you play on stable. No.

My suggestion, Download the experimental branch and have a go. See if you like it.

Hey dude! I also took a long break from the game to see what else they could come out with!

On Exp, it feels like an entirely new game. . and it's amazing!

Food/Water/Resources are actually low enough to give you a run for your money if you get caught in the wilderness and are starving (Which happens relatively fast)

The weather will straight up kill you a few times before you learn to be wary of the cold and the rain. I was killed by Hypothermia maybe three times yesterday xD

And the Zeds are insane right now! If you fire a gun, expect to see 10+ Infected within the first few seconds, with many on the way. - They're just as fast as humans and do not stop chasing you until a veryyyy long time.

Definitely give this game a shot again and download the Exp :D It's ridiculously fun. If you want someone to run with, PM me.

Food will never be a problem until they do something with apple trees. Regardless of the loot, server pop or spawn place, I'm energized within 10 minutes of spawning, always. Even if the F spamming is removed, it will just prolong initial apple picking sequence. The number of apples per tree should be limited.

But yes, loot is super scarce, especially since all the exp servers are full/almost full all the time. Don't even bother looting coastal infrastructure, head inland.

I didn't experience any problems with cold, but maybe because I'm constantly on the run from zeds and wolves. Keep your eye out in the woods! Wolves are so much tougher than zeds.

I don't recommend shooting at zeds, but they go down in melee easily, although melee combat seems bugged and desynced like it never was. The old "click and wait until the game decides that you hit something" never applied more.

Vehicles are out, probably for the better.

Still, exp. 0.61 is so much better than 0.60. Give it a try!

Thank you all guys,

also just read new-player threads complaining about not finding food. That sounds good ! Hopefully weather will be miserable as well.

LOL, my kind of player. I'm still not miserable enough to fully enjoy dayz. Some people just get off of pain. ;)

Rain is now a pain in the ass. May be even too much, if you are in the open when raining you're gonna get cold, freezing and then die in just a matter of minutes. Not being able to create fireplaces inside houses makes it even worse. But at least I had an amazing night with my friends 2 days ago, when we were going from village to village and using houses with chimmeys to warm up. Probably we made about 5km in 2 hours, but it was fun xD

However I still find the game too much... binary. It's not that things are hard, but more like incredible easy until BUM you're dead. A character's life is usually: fine -> fine -> fine -> fine -> fine -> fine -> you are dead.

I would like it to be more survival, which includes having problems AND surviving them. Getting infected more usually but actually surviving that, getting shot but same, broke a bone from a 4m fall and having to limp for 15 minutes while waiting for the crafted splint to do its effect (right now you fall from 4m and bum -> you are dead.

Things like this would make it much more interesting.

Wildlife can have impact on survival. Much of it is being fixed right now, but wolves can be dangerous, weapons hard to get, ammo hard to get, food hard to find, and it is going to be a rough life.

It is not perfect by any means in Exp but they are working around the clock trying to fix it for Christmas. Hold in there guys, Brian himself has also taken to help get this pushed for stable.

and if you exploit that is a different topic, being worked on.
