Red_Ensign 990 Posted August 20, 2016 (edited) I've been finding yellow cases everywhere the last few days, so I've started dropping care packages for respawns at water pumps a respawn would probably pass. right now I'm just throwing in a water bottle and 4 slots of food. but I was thinking maybe there's something else a respawn might need more. like maybe a storage vest and a rope and a burlap sack? etc etc so the question is: if you've just respawned and you find a yellow case at a well, what would you hope would be in there? (no, I'm not putting in 6 stacks of .308) Edited August 20, 2016 by Red_Ensign

Tigermonk 140 Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) 6 slot care package. good idea! my pick? 1 stone knife 1 bottle of water* 2 cans of food 1 burlap 1 rope** *=the water bottle is not really that necessary since you can run towards a pump with relative ease.. and apple trees are still around so.. hydration isn't the issue here. why? 6 slots of must have survival gear. the rest can be crafted with relative ease. 1 stone knife: cuts branches for a spear/improv fishing rod or fire starting cuts bark for firestarting (combine bark and sticks for fire plow idea) can be attached to a long stick to make a spear (if you find some duct tape which is easy enough if you know where to look) cuts up shirts into rags/burlap strips skins animals ONLY TAKES 1 SLOT 2 cans of beans for your energy (since peaches are no longer king :( ) (again not really necessary because apple trees are a thing) 1 burlap sack for obvious use (improvised backpack) **=1 rope again not really needed.. because if you know anything about dayz (about 100 hours playtime) you'd know how to make an improvised rope which again can be done with some good old fashion scavenging and a stone knife.. but if I was a complete beginner at this game... and had NO clue where I was or what I was doing.. those would be the ideal things I'd like to find. nice idea man +1 (currently going towards 600 hours myself..) (no, I'm not putting in 6 stacks of .308) Aha! I thought that might be you - found one in the main street in Stary yesterday. I ate the powdered milk and replaced it with a silenced Glock with a mag and some rounds that I'd found in the police station...

Worst case scenario, you get taken advantage of and get a nemesis to hunt down. Because sometimes, a nice-idea man can help you find all of those things for yourself, thus breaking the poverty cycle by ending the welfare state. I would leave pot-cooked lard x2, animal guts, 10 bones, and rope. Edited August 21, 2016 by emuthreat

You said a stone knife could be affixed to the end of a spear, which I have never seen or heard of yet. >>"can be attached to a long stick to make a spear (if you find some duct tape which is easy enough if you know where to look)" Nice try... : )

No need for cordage. Which ...... to be entirely honest, is bumfuck stupid. If you crafted the spear with the stone knife, it would be a great "newbie" weapon, as it doesn't take any resources you can't get on your own. With bone required, that means you need to kill an animal or a person, and have the tools needed to skin/quarter the corpse ...... which means you already have an effective melee weapon. http://rs215.pbsrc.com/albums/cc280/bleurgh_bucket/facepalm.jpg~c200 That pic pretty much sums up with my opinion of most of the crafting design conditions Day Z has made so far. A simple spear should be craftable with just a stick. Break off the end, or rub it on the ground, and sharpen the tip Make an "improvised spear" with a stone knife and a stick Make an "Improved spear" with a knife and a stick. Of course, the spear is a particularly shitty weapon anyways, so who would bother? The stone knife it and of itself is a better weapon. As for the "care package", throw in a burlap sack, some rope, a stone knife, and a bottle of water. That, in and of itself, will allow the freshspawn to carry and craft almost anything they need.
