infiltrator 275 Posted November 9, 2015 (edited) One of the problems with a game like this is the absence of grass cover over long distances. Not only does grass not provide any cover when you're in it, it also obstructs your own vision. Are there any plans regarding this? Perhaps some very low grass sprites can be redered across large distances with the new renderer? It doesn't have to look good, as long as provides vidual cover it serves a purpose. Bororm 1156 Posted November 10, 2015 I really hope they figure out something, for both grass and other foliage and discrepancies between player settings. It sucks not being able to trust any sort of concealment because you aren't actually sure how it's rendering for everyone else. For some reason I feel like I used to go prone a whole lot more in the mod without grass in my face being as much of a problem. I'm not entirely sure what the difference there is if any in the SA, but I find prone useless about 90% of the time for shooting in the SA for that reason.

ZomboWTF 527 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) well there ist the "sinking into terrain" effect if you are prone in tall grass or on the forrest floor, i remember a suggestion of rendering grass around a player, but not as visible green grass, but as an "overlay" over a players model which makes the player transparent, but only where he overlaps with the grass rendered around him, which was an awesome suggestion, though i've never actually seen it in action i can't really think of other stuff that would make this work, the easiest solution of course would be to make a player simply less opaque when he is hiding in grass that doesnt render anymore, but that seems to be a very crude and easily unbalanced mechanic Edited November 12, 2015 by Zombo
Calvin Candie 189 Posted November 12, 2015 How aboooout....they render the fucking grass at larger distance??? Old renderer could not do so, but since they are rewriting NEW renderer longer than it took Khaligula to write the Bible, maybe they find space and time to increase level of detail of grass at loooong distances. ImageCtrl 719 Posted November 14, 2015 It would be awesome to have no limits. Maybe in 10 years you see such games. As long as you not move and you wear camo, most will not notice you. ... because you aren't actually sure how it's rendering for everyone else.I guess after 10 hours you know how it renders for everyone else. Short range. Long range a bush should be ok.
Bororm 1156 Posted November 14, 2015 I guess after 10 hours you know how it renders for everyone else. I'm referring specifically to differences between settings. You can just assume everyone is playing with the lowest settings, sure. But since I don't, and never have, I honestly don't have a feel for the differences beyond the knowledge that the pine or bush I'm in is probably offering a good 30% less coverage than I think it is.

grimsonfart 49 Posted November 22, 2015 This game already has horrible optimization issues and you want the grass rendering upped? Not gonna happen, even with the new renderer i doubt they can do much about it since this is a thing in ALL games except for DayZ it's a problem.
Deathlove 2286 Posted November 23, 2015 Would be nice if grass actually gave players that immersion of not being seen from a distance.
roguetrooper 201 Posted November 23, 2015 (edited) Grass in the Arma series has always been just eye candy for single players. In multiplayer mode is does the opposite it does in RL: it just blocks your own view whereas you are visible to others (50+ meters). That's why I offer the option to turn off (forced) the grass for everyone in my Arma2/3 multiplayer maps. Edited November 23, 2015 by RogueTrooper
