Kirov (DayZ) 585 Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) Started playing after some break and have certain questions for you, guys: 1) First thing first - after drinking gasoline by accident, I got sick and then got over, however I was getting the "I've got cramps in my stomach" messages for many many hours after. Then, I got dark-red 'sick' and a message 'I just soiled myself', which keeps repeating. I read somewhere that this is a prank of the server admin, but I used to play on that server (private) for a long time and nothing like that happened before. So, if I may ask - did anyone shit himself yet in 0.58? 2) Can you put steaks on a stick and grill it over fire? I don't seem able to do that. 3) Do I have to pack and move my barrel and tent to prolong their life, persistence-wise, or will simple 'handling' like putting stuff in do? 4) Where do you look for animals? I checked such surefire places like Bere and Msta and not a single cow there. I only managed to catch a rabbit. 5) Does anyone know exactly what kind of dyes do we have? So far I gather it is berries, bark (didn't work for me) and nails(?). 6) I love the new rare loot, but the stuff I'd like to find at last is: antibiotics, car plugs, map. Any luck finding them, guys? 7) My face started to melt when I removed a cooking pot from the fireplace in order to eat its content. Even a few steps back didn't help, I really had to run out of the house, but not before losing much blood. What's going on with cooking? 8) On a related note, I can't put pots and pan on a gas stove anymore, not within my backpack anyway. I can do that on the ground, but then cannot pack them up. Do you have the same? Thanks in advance! Edited September 10, 2015 by Kirov
Mookie (original) 799 Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) To answer some of these: 1. I'm pretty sure pooping is nothing more than a server admin MotD thing at the moment. Or is it? 2. Yes you can, but there's some skill to it. The stick in question is not one of the sticks you pick up from the ground, it's one of the branches you can cut from a tree. You move your steak on to it (don't actually have to sharpen it), sit in front of the fire, and the 'F' key should give you a 'pose stick towards fire' message. Try to get it directly over the fire, without melting your own face. It takes a minute or two to cook and will turn a deeper shade of brown when it does. You will not get any other indication than this. 3. Barrels have a pretty long persistence life - certainly more than a week or so. But it's a good idea to use and interact with them, rather than simply leaving them. 4. You can find herds of cows or deer either at ponds and watering holes, or at some point between them. but they are easily spooked and run fast, so use stealth. The whole thing's a bit buggy IME. Fightn Irish 74 Posted September 10, 2015 I got a message similar to yours one day, it went like: I have stomach cramps, I am touching cloth, I have soiled myself.
VahidkinG 192 Posted September 10, 2015 1. pooping is not a mechanic in the game, thanks god.2. i honestly didn't try yet, im stock to canned food for now, there are plenty of it out there.3. for now, YES, you need to take a tent or barrel in your hand and put it on the ground again in order to refresh it's timer. but their timer is 45 day long so you don't actually need to do it for now. till .59 which you can refresh their timer only with interacting with them.4. first of, animals are rare (or maybe uncommon) you will find them in herds. also they are most of the time running around, sometimes stock in a tree or rock in the woods.5. check dayztv.com for this.6. i didn't find or care for antibiotics till now. for glow plugs you need to search sheds with Vicinity open because those things are pretty hard to spot and also they are so rare. for maps you can find anywhere on the map but also rare.7 and 8 didn't try any cooking yet. Killawife 599 Posted September 10, 2015 I found a lot of deer and cows around Zeleogorsk yesterday. Some were frozen stiff and others running around without making a sound.
Mookie (original) 799 Posted September 10, 2015 I found a lot of deer and cows around Zeleogorsk yesterday. Some were frozen stiff and others running around without making a sound. They seem to like the pond between there and Sosnovka. Whenever I shoot them for their tasty meat, however, they just vanish. I don't mean they run away, they literally vanish in the blink of an eye.
Kirov (DayZ) 585 Posted September 10, 2015 Thanks for the replies. I still do have problems with bleaching/coloring, like, it doesn't work when it's supposed to. Disinfectant and clothse in, closed lid - what else? Do certain items block bleaching? The barrel doesn't have to be empty aside from clothes and agents, right? Because I keep more stuff there. Great to hear about the animals, they used to be my staple diet but hey, I'm happy it's gonna be an adventure in itself. Hopefully the devs cut the canned food soon. On to find some meat! Mookie: this bugged behaviour was there for as far as I remember. When an animal doesn't move at all, there's no point shooting it, there's nothing left. Come up with a melee if you're not sure. VahidkinG: there's no pooping per se, just the message about I'm soiling. At first I was dark-red 'sick' (like when you vomit or starve), then it disappeared but I still keep 'soiling' myself. One more thing - is it true what I read in some other topic that there are bugs on plants and you can spray them with disinfectants? That would be awesome but I can hardly believe it. It has to be empty. I think it then "locks" the barrel for 4-5 minutes until completed. At least, that's what it did when my buddy was completing his leather backpack. tux (DayZ) 325 Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) On the topic of persistence, nobody's seem to have gone in depth about this yet. Some developer (Hicks, I believe) said that they were working on a way to refresh an entire camp, opposed to requiring the need to interact with each individual object in order for it's cleanup timer to reset. This isn't that important with the current base-building system, as there are only really tents, barrels, and vehicles that make up the camp. Once barricades and those sand filled walls are introduced, interacting with every single one to prevent them from being cleaned up would be too tedious. EDIT: From the dayz subreddit on dyes: Edited September 10, 2015 by tux
Kirov (DayZ) 585 Posted September 10, 2015 Thanks for the infographic. It doesn't take into account bark and nails, is it because these are purely for leather? LOL, I run into a herd of cows and just wanted to congratulate the devs on how they react better (I didn't even get a kill) when the whole herd got stuck on a fence and then run around in circles as if coralled in invisible walls. Finished three of them with a stone knife (seems that cows got a lot more health points, too!). Yeah I know, WIP. ;)

When an animal doesn't move at all, there's no point shooting it, there's nothing left. Come up with a melee if you're not sure. Happens to me if they're moving or not... I suggest animals and hunting need some fixing before the packaged food is dialled down any further, or there are going to be a lot of people at the apple trees... Kirov (DayZ) 585 Posted September 11, 2015 Sad to hear that people still fall for the old trick of admin messages being mistaken for status indicators. I've played one private server, a Czech one called 'Patriot', for a long time. There was never any message like that there. On the top of that, for a joke the coincidence is amazing - they introduced their prank precisely when I was dying sick of gas poisoning. And I don't know if this is any indicator, but the message is in red, not white (does it really matter?). I still allow some room that this is a joke. My toon now experiences no adverse affects except for the self-soil message every half an hour. But if this is a joke, it got stale quite quickly. I believe I was right to assume that I don't play under a bunch of moronic admins with a pre-school sense of humour. But I see you're suggesting something to the contrary... ;)
Kirov (DayZ) 585 Posted September 11, 2015 I set up a base and it got super laggy after a while, then I watched wobo and realized that somebody else has a camp within 1km radius. Does anyone know if there is a way to find it using lagging as hint? I mean, is the lag related to distance or something?

Does anyone know if there is a way to find it using lagging as hint? I mean, is the lag related to distance or something? Hmm. Well if the lag occurs within a 1km distance, the method is probably to run from your camp in a determined direction until you definitely detect the lag ending. Then run back to your camp and do the same in a different direction, and so on. On the other hand just run around a bit with your eyes peeled...
Kirov (DayZ) 585 Posted September 13, 2015 "I just soiled myself" message at that server is legit, I asked a friend of mine to join and he doesn't receive any such info or any other 'jokes'. So maybe we've got ourselves another disease or something. Sometimes I see dark-red 'sick', sometimes I don't, I don't seem to lose blood but we'll only know for sure once I get to eat some antibiotics (they're simply not there). Mookie, it's ok, I found the other guy's camp. Now, I'm wondering what actually constitutes a camp. If I have a barrel under one tree and a few backpacks under another one nearby, is it one camp, two camps, or maybe as many as containers?
