Buying new graphic card

Recommended Posts

I am planning to buy graphic card AMD Radeon R9 270 Turboduo Powercolor edition. I already have FX8320e proccessor. Anyone has that specs? Any ideas how much Fps will I get? Lets hope 30+ on normal-high settings with shadows on outside bigger towns. I know Dayz is unoptimized and its leaning on cpu, but i hope this upgrade will give me some fps because I have like 20-25 fps on high settings with my old card in woods. Also, im planning to crossfire my old card and new card together. Does dayz support that? Sorry for grammar,im using phone.

Minimum frame rate is heavily bound to the CPU. You don't list your current settings or current GPU, so I can't give you any more specific ideas about what to expect. There is a strong chance that your FPS won't change much at all. Unless you are currently using a GPU that would struggle to run Minecraft.

As far as I know, there are specific things one can do to get SLI/Crossfire working in DayZ by following some tutorials for making it work in Arma 2. The only information I could find was from early SA though, so it may be tweaks that used to work no longer do.

Thanks for reply. Sorry for missing information, I felt that two most important things would be CPU and GPU.

Cpu : Amd fx8320e 3.2 ghz( will soon be clocked to 4.0 ghz )

Gpu : radeon 7500 something ( card was made before Jesus Christ i know )

6gb of ram

windows 10 64 bit

As of settings, rendering and that stuff was low or disabled, textures were normal, filtering disabled, 1920x1080 resolution and objects were high or normal, all other stuff was low i think. :)

Objects on High or Normal is likely the primary cause of your currently low minimum frame rate and a new GPU can't help with that. However, you should be able to turn up or on a few other graphical settings that are GPU bound without a loss in frames when you get the new card. OC'ing you CPU may help you too.

In my experience, you will be able to increase the rendering quality with a faster GPU, but your FPS will remain largely unaffected.

How does game run at 4.0 Ghz? People say to me that I can turn on turbo mode for my PC so my proccessor that has 3.2 can have 4 Ghz. I am not sure is turning on turbo actually overclocking, Ill check it when I get back home on internet. Also, my CPU has 8 cores, and I know that DayZ uses 4 only, I'll try to find way to unpark other cores . One more thing, I am not so great with this IT stuff, but if I can upgrade from 3.2 to 4 Ghz, does every one of cores get like 0.1 Ghz or something ( 0.8 extra Ghz/8 cores )? So instead will my performance be better for like 0.4 Ghz ( because 0.1 ghz x 4cores that DayZ uses ) or for that full extra 0.8 Ghz after turning Turbo mode on? Hope you can understand. ;)

Yes yes yes turn on turbo. Its a feature of the cpu

You need a good cpu to run the game well. It doesnt need to be top of the line but Intels work better than AMD's. If you have a high-end graphic card it means you can run higher resolutions, better quality on objects, longer draw distances etc but it doesn't boost fps. As of right now its actually meaningless to invest in new hardware just for Dayz. The game isn't optimized yet and theres no telling how the end result will be affected by graphic cards or cpu's.  It seems like theres things in the game that practically eats frames and its just not logical.

Compared to a game like battlefield4 for example, you can run it with decent non top-of-the-line hardware at 60 fps, and when theres a lot of stuff happening your frames might drop to 50. And that game looks way way better than Dayz with a lot more happening onscreen at once. In Dayz you can run along happily on a road or in the forest with a few houses dotted here and there and get 60-70 fps, then go into a moderately-sized town and it drops to 25. then add some player interaction adn you're crawling along. I think this will be tweaked later and the situation will be more like in bf4.

Thats more than enough frames I need :)

I got used to play games around 28 FPS as I run Arma 3 singleplayer on 28 on everything medium high with rendering and shadows turned off. Just nobody answered my question, If i get additional 0.8 GHz on my CPU, will i feel diffrence? Or will it be somewhat smaller experience because DayZ uses 4 cores only and FX8320e has 8?

In its stock form- yeah... but overclocked? May run into stability problems.

I only speak from an intel background and some hardcore folding 24/7 (it's been awhile since I dabbled in it, I admit) and had most of my settings locked in for efficiency... but don't you figure turbo would cause instability in the overclock?

He's not overclocking if he wants it @ 4ghz. Thats the factory turbo speed which he was inquiring about reaching.
