A well timed trap.

So, I just started a new game in DayZ on a new server. I spawned outside of Cherno, got some basic gear, a Trumpet Rifle, basic stuff. Then I come across this small building with a front porch. It's absolutely filled to the brim with Military vests, boots, AKMs, pistols and the like. I figured it must have been a glitched spawn so I take what I can and set off, feeling confident with my new M9, AKM, Military vest and dismantled Trumpet in my Drybag. The next building I search, I find a Mine. Not an armed one, just one sitting on the floor. After inspecting it to see if it really was armed, I took it with me. But then I hatched an idea.

 

A wonderful, AWFUL idea.

 

I trot on back to the glitched loot spawn and make sure to stand right in the middle of the pile before planting the mine underneath an AKM and running away. Later on, I go to check the fire station, fall off some of the stairs climbing the tower and sprain my ankle somehow. After stopping to check the wiki on how to make a splint, I set off for the nearby forest to find some sticks, rags already in hand. As I climb the hill toward the trees, I hear a very distant explosion back from the town.

Hilarity ensued.

I tried to set my land mine inside "jail" building but it went beneath the floor and I could not activate it.

I just activated 2 mines at a helicopter crash site on experimental, and I am not gonna tell which it is...better be careful M4 hunters :)

I tried this same thing a couple weeks ago on .57... stashed it under a loot pile at one of the guard houses. We watched with anticipation as a guy practically moon walked across the platform where the mine was placed and nothing happened. He just carried on about his merry business. 

 

I read a thread shortly thereafter that mentioned a guy had stepped on a mine and got the message "you have been injured by a mine" but he'd suffered no injury. Not sure where it stands right now?

The interesting thing is that I do this all the time on Experimental... especially at police station loot explosions. Those will always, always have a mine somewhere in that mess... so I leave it there, armed of course. Lately due to being an absolute jerk I take any mines I find and then happily place them at chopper crashes because it's amusing to watch server hoppers blow themselves all to hell due to greed.

If you're referring to Survivor's landlime video, realize that he never activated the mine. Always keep an eye on the game messages while setting up a trap.

Hmmmm- I don't think so (but maybe?). Frick... this memory of mine.

Killed a guy in the police station of Berezino.

Stripped off all his gear and put a mine beneath the stuff.

Met another guy nearby who had almost nothing and befriended him.

Told him that there was a dead geared player in the police station and escorted him there.

Nice fireworks. :p

Yeah, that building and the police station are notorious for things dropped on the floor ending up out front next to the front door or something. They're a pain if you have to put something down.
