Mostly Harmless 28 Posted June 20, 2015 Thanks for the guide and the animal-info given! I saw a deer near 094/032 - the first one after a long time travelling, beautiful!
Thurman Merman 726 Posted June 20, 2015 They must intend for it to be like a trophy item of sorts. "Look! I was able to find a boar, skin it, and craft a useful item from it's rare carcass." I mean, it DOES have one more slot than the leather sack ;) Well, if it's supposed to be a trophy, make it better. Right now, arguably the Hunter's is better (larger capacity, with only slightly larger profile). Make the Boar'sPack 6x6 or have a vertical slot to carry an extra weapon. Or just make the whole thing like a giant protector case. I like it. I'll usually make one. But, I'm rarely gonna go out of my way to get it. It's usually quicker to get a Hunter's. Kirov (DayZ) 585 Posted June 20, 2015 Tatanko, you didn't say where you found your boar, I cant' find any for the love of God. I also checked that Rogovo area for foxes, spent there like an hour avoiding heli hunters, but this time to no avail.
Tatanko 5591 Posted June 20, 2015 A question a friend of mine asked me - do humans yield lard, guts or bones? :)They yield 4 steaks and a pile of 5 bones. Nothing more, I'm afraid. Well, if it's supposed to be a trophy, make it better. Right now, arguably the Hunter's is better (larger capacity, with only slightly larger profile). The improvised leather backpack with the boar pelt is kind of the top tier for the "I refuse to go into a town" crowd. Kirov (DayZ) 585 Posted June 22, 2015 I need yet to find my wildgame, but in the meantime I discovered a funny thing. You know how fireplaces heat up heatable stuff like pots, guts, etc.? Well, they also heat up steaks. And before the steak is all ruined, it gets warmed up and you can "pre-heat" it in the fire (10-15 sec.) and only then put it on your stick, shaving off 15 sec. of roasting, down to 45 sec. Because dayz. Also, does anybody know where ammo to SVD is? I was looking for that goddam fox South of Veresnik but I found only a Dragunov instead... Parazight 1599 Posted June 22, 2015 Ah, yes. Similar to the yard in Msta. Last I was there two days ago, it happened to be a goat and a chicken. As for the bones: I think you just want to start a bone collection :PIt might be possible that I have a problem. Me on the musty private hive.
Tatanko 5591 Posted June 22, 2015 Also, does anybody know where ammo to SVD is? I was looking for that goddam fox South of Veresnik but I found only a Dragunov instead...I have a lone box of 7.62x54R that I've been carrying around for a week in case I find an SVD, and I can't for the life of me remember where I found it. I have yet to visit any military locations in 0.57 Stable, so it had to have come from a wrecked truck or possibly one of the guard houses.

Tatanko 5591 Posted June 22, 2015 Try north of NW Airfield - I found a boar there near the treelines. I'm hearing a lot of good things about the northwest in 0.57. This is good. I'll probably spend some time there this evening to see what I can find. Hoping for a fox!
Kirov (DayZ) 585 Posted June 22, 2015 Today I took a car from Msta and drove Polana-Dubrovka-Krasnostav-Gvozdno-Devil's Castle. I stopped many times to roam around and scout the area with binoculars and my only trophy was a deer at 084,037 (W of Gvozdno, downhill from the roadturn). I think I would expect 6-8 animals on this route in previous patches. Soon I'll give a check to the forest N of the NWAF and then I'll retrace the usual heli hunt (normally it would give 8-10 animals as well). Do you think that animals share spawning points with similar chance? Like if I found a deer, is it going to be 'mostly deer' or the chance for boars is ca similar? It's hard to say with domestic animals, I think cows have a separate spawn check and probably chickens as well, but goats, sheep and pigs can be largely interchangeable. Dagwood 680 Posted June 22, 2015 Isn't the boar pack the same size as a taloon pack? It's my favorite backpack by far. I have been making do with the regular improvised pack so far, but in the past the boar pack gave me both enough space for everything and the low profile that makes your gear-status harder to guage at long distance. When I see the outline of a hunters pack from a distance , I know you are almost certainly packing heat. When I see an improvised pack in the same scenario, I can't know if you're geared and choosing low profile, or if you just chose that over an ugly taloon. Boarskin pack for life. Whyherro123 2283 Posted June 23, 2015 I hope that one day, animal furs and pelts will actually have a use. On the American Frontier, Deer pelts were often traded at Trading Posts for $1. This is where they got the nickname "bucks" for dollars. In many cases, in the backcountry away from the trading posts, the deerpelts were used as straight currency. Rabbit pelts are rather fragile, and therefore not conducive to making clothing from. However, they make excellent liners for cloaks and mantles. Same thing for squirrel.

Dagwood 680 Posted June 24, 2015 Anybody know how plausible it would be for us to craft something that could be used for making deer/boar calls? Or finding/creating some form of saltlick? All of these could be used for drawing in scarce, hard to find game like deer and wild boar. I'd imagine salt licks would take hours if not days to have an effect on deer in game, but I think setting one up around camp would be another cool "upgrade" survivors could choose to utilize. Using a shovel and a barrel or two of water could be used to create a mud hole for attracting wild pigs. I'm sure there are numerous other tricks that could be as well that I am ignorant of. My point is that it would be, in my opinion, a nice addition to the game if we could craft "attractions" for wild game that could increase our likelihood of finding game. Many hunters do this in real life because stalking game takes much more skill and patience.

FlimFlamm 509 Posted June 26, 2015 Great guide Tatanko! I would really love to see a mroe comprehensive map that shows animal spawn points. Some info in that regard: Mogilevka cow can be found at coordinates 070 100 There is a pig/goat/chicken spawn at vishnoye, coordinates 065 092 I tend to live at Zub and these two animals spawn points are my bread and butter for gathering leather in a reasonable amount of time, Very reliable.
Tatanko 5591 Posted June 26, 2015 Thanks! A comprehensive map will probably have to wait a version or two. With animal spawns being as sparse and inconsistent as they are right now, I don't think it would be possible for a map to be all that accurate. There are a few places, as you mentioned, where it's possible to find animals consistently (but mostly the domestic ones).
atempleton 123 Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) Confirmed: 2 wild boars can be found south of Pusta. There is a big clearing as you travel up the road to Pusta with a deer stand on either side and a valley next to the right. The boars spawn on the east side of the valley on the hillside, providing a perfect unobstructed shot.My pack of five hunter/survivors also whilst regrouping at a well in Pusta were visited upon by a lightly armed survivor. Upon realizing there were 5 of us he ran for dear life for 5 minutes. The stressed out meat was awfully tough upon consumption but food is food in Day Z. Kirov (DayZ) 585 Posted July 1, 2015 Do we know what we can expect when 0.58 stable hits steam? In terms of all things outdoorsman-oriented? I wonder if animals will be back. I think I read some statement by devs that animals will be as rare in the final release as regular loot.
Kirov (DayZ) 585 Posted August 6, 2015 A quick update: I killed a fox SW to the Black Mountain, somewhere in the vicinity of 098 037. So yet again the full array of animal trophies under my belt. :) Good hunting, lads!
atempleton 123 Posted August 6, 2015 I confirmed a fox spawn too. The mountain seperating Nizhnoye and Solnichny Factory, with two deer stands on it. They have twice for me spawned at the southern deer stand on the mountain, near Orlovets.
