Deathlove 2286 Posted May 30, 2015 Correct answer: YES. When you get hit by them or interact with them too much you can have a whole host of real world infections. What i was told or assume is your cant actually become one. You can get infected with other things but i would like to have the strong possibility to become one of them as well. It should always be a 50/50 chance to get a known disease or to get something like what they turn into.
Private Evans 1303 Posted May 30, 2015 (edited) It's not a virus... Here's the original intro found in the files of older versions of the mod ( thx to Fluxley for digging this out) DEAN HALL PRESENTS A USECFORCE PRODUCTION On 12 March 2013, a prion disease and spreads among the worlds population triggering a global pandemicThe disease causes proteins in the brain to be replaced with prions ceasing regular functionMost people progress to dementia and then death as the brain is replaced with ineffective sludge86% of the worlds population dieSome survive with the disease in a chronic state. Lacking regular brain function, they are scarely human. They are unable to communicate, driven by insatiable desire for violence, and attracted to the scent of those uninfectedSociety crumbles as the pandemic spreads rapidlyYou are one of the 2% who are not infected yet THIS IS YOUR STORY Edited May 30, 2015 by Private Evans
Deathlove 2286 Posted May 30, 2015 It's not a virus...well the good news is it says "Your are one of the 2% who are not infected yet.". Which leads me to believe you can still catch the same disease most of the locals have. Its just a matter of when they finally start putting that disease in. I still expect many of the other more common things you can catch still in the process
Bororm 1156 Posted May 30, 2015 They're zombies. Half the time the devs refer to them they're zombies too. They can be both, infected and zombies. Trying to shoehorn in a backstory was silly of them imo.
doctorbadsign 645 Posted May 30, 2015 They will always be zombies to me."Infected" makes it sound like you're playing a sexual health clinic simulator.
ultrashake 0 Posted May 30, 2015 "DON'T SAY THE ZED WORD" They're zombies. They're diseased necrotic looking creatures who can't speak and have the desire to eat human flesh.
☣BioHaze☣ 7337 Posted May 30, 2015 (edited) The degree to which they pursue cannibalism is debatable. In the mod they knelt and scooped invisible stuff off a dead or unconscious player but they do not try to bite by default like classic undead zombies. I think the major problem here is definitions. Zombie should be viewed as a loose term, a sort of lazy term (no offense, just a turn of phrase) that encompasses mindless shambling, scurrying, or running humans with little to no personality and limited cognitive abilities. As stated previously in this thread, I often use both terms, zombie, and infected, interchangeably in conversation just to try to make some distinction RE: DayZ zombies. I have no issue with people calling the infected zombies as long as they understand that they are not undead, cannot survive massive vital organ trauma, or loss of limbs, and do not require headshots. These zombies are still alive in every sense of the word. Until I fill 'em full of lead, blow 'em up, or burn 'em, that is. :murder: Edited May 30, 2015 by BioHaze
