gannon46 788 Posted May 8, 2015 are you on a high pop server or have a high ping or dsync not sure if those things are a factor but i'm just curious. I remember this used to happen a lot more in the past and you'd hear zeds in the woods and soda opening would scare the shit outta ya that's for sure i honestly haven't encountered it in awhile though i'm on a server with low ping and its not full usually which sucks but what can ya do. vfxtodd 125 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) Yea, I hear random sounds of ammo being combined, cans being opened, etc in the middle of nowhere. I also hear gates opening when I'm walking through a town or inside a building. DayZ is still alpha. But I do hope some day I won't hear these things unless someone is actually nearby. One thing I do hear when it's appropriate is foot steps. I've never heard walking unless someone was actually waking outside a building I was in, or walking nearby. pilgrim* 3514 Posted May 8, 2015 I hear people eating and splitting ammo when im in the middle of nowhere. i dont see anyone anywhere has this happened to anyone else? not people, dude - it' the rabbits they used to drink beer, count ammo, and groan .. check the forums (I aint kidding) They bad rabbits..Now I don't know if it's still the rabbits or just general when a server gets populated.. but a zombie growl right behind your neck when you're way out in a bush in nowhere - sure gets you alert, heh.
Nicko2580 398 Posted May 8, 2015 It's a bug. It's getting fixed soon (hopefully). Don't think it has anything to do with pop or ping.
Mookie (original) 799 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) Used to be that if someone on the same server as you had eaten human flesh, you'd get that scary cackling noise following you around everywhere in the dark. That was a fun feature. Edited May 8, 2015 by Mookie
LoveAffair 329 Posted May 8, 2015 I always hear those noises and they are a pain , It is starting to make me not look over my shoulder now because im so use to it. Actually 2 days ago a new one started where i can hear someone throwing up now.. I hope it gets fixed soon.
ebrim 998 Posted May 8, 2015 I think the only way it's related to population is that high pop servers have more chance of you hearing phantom sounds as there is a greater quantity of sounds happening overall.
Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted May 8, 2015 I used to happen a lot when you were higher up. If you were on a crane, a tower, etc you'd get noise from all over the server, including people talking across the server. I know they've addressed that. Also as mentioned "apparently" the rabbits were responsible for random noises including random zed noises when none were around. I think that's been addressed as well. However, the eating, drinking, and ammo splitting still happen randomly. Here's the link to the primary report of it on the bug tracker, it's about the 5th most voted up bug out there:http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=
Camisado2 83 Posted May 8, 2015 Random noises have been around since SA launched. In my experience the higher the pop, the more noises. I did actually hear a new one the other day. A clicking. Sounds very similar to when you click your tongue on the roof of your mouth
Schweinsteiger 107 Posted May 8, 2015 It's a bug. It's getting fixed soon (hopefully). Don't think it has anything to do with pop or ping. Sure does have something to do with a high server population. You just don't hear those sound glitches on low-pop servers. I haven't heard the devs say they were going to address the sound glitch bug anytime soon. Do you have a source where they said they would be fixing it soon? I've been server hopping low pop servers while this lootsplosion thing has been happening (mostly to find gear I've never seen in game before, just to try it out) and I still hear sounds. Even on servers with no other players.

Definitely increases with population for me.

I'll give you that. It's definitely more prevalent on high pop servers, but I've definitely heard it on empty servers too. It seems to be the cut off versions of the sounds on lower pop servers, where as high pop servers for me you get the complete eating or 'water bottle being filled' sounds.
