gannon46 788 Posted April 23, 2015 nice vid you play like i do sir i don't like to use maps or wiki i like to play and make mistakes as well. i seen you used the trumpet i really fell in love with that gun when the loot was lacking its quite and is really good for looting towns when trying to stay stealthy. keep up the good work good vid.
tiadashi 262 Posted April 23, 2015 Nice video 8) - I liked the scarcity as well, it added allot to the game for me
The Gent 20 Posted April 23, 2015 I really enjoyed this video - liked and subbed, look forward to seeing more from you. I disagree slightly with some of the general themes you were getting at there, though - the example you used with ruining the meat, if we're talking survival-simulator, then of course, IRL you wouldn't throw the meat onto the flaming logs and hope for the best. One has to make logical leaps in assuming what the game mechanics may be. If I were in that situation IRL, probably the route I'd go is stab a stick through the meat and cook it like that...that is not currently a game mechanic (though I have heard it's coming). There are lots of little things like that which work both ways - for example, something you're probably unaware of if you avoid the devblogs etc, I wouldn't have thought that the game would allow you to fill up all liquid containers with all types of liquid - it would be a safe bet to say that the game mechanics would mean water bottles are for water only and fuel cans can only carry fuel, but no, they can use both. I too love the powerful zombies and I'm a fan of the loot system - it's not particularly scarce any more, but it's harder to survive which is the right way to go. I'm with you that most of the userbase treats this game like COD: Beans Edition, but I would honestly be bored to tears if there was no multi-player aspect to the game...at least in its current state. I love playing the hero character, I love getting one over on bandits in those heart-wrenching adrenaline-fuelled firefights, but it's not what I look for, I just let it happen organically, making it all the more rewarding. Anyway //rant, look forward to the rest of your stuff, man.
BeefBacon 1185 Posted April 23, 2015 Yeah, I really enjoyed the scarce loot. I actually made a video about it. I started recording with the intention of showing how I starved to death in protest against the lack of loot. As I played I found that I was actually able to survive, and after a while I managed to find some pretty decent gear. It was the most fun I'd had in DayZ. The devs say they want a hard game, so I have faith that they'll come up with something challenging - some sweet spot between never finding anything and being energized within 15 minutes of spawning. Anyway //rant, look forward to the rest of your stuff, man. Believe me, my favourite part of the game is player interaction and combat. It's so damn exciting. Extreme detail isn't necessary in a survival simulator - it's not a cooking simulator. In a game you have to take a kind of shorthand. It just needs to simulate the stress of finding food and preparing it with the possibility of failure at every step... failure meaning that you might starve. Killawife 599 Posted April 25, 2015 I liked your video and commentary very much but I do feel that there is one thing your missing that I noticed with the 0.55 "famine" patch. When you encountered it you had a mediumgeared character already. this allowed you to hunt, forage, grow things and survive. It was hard but exciting. This is exactly how it was for me with my geared characters that i had from earlier and it was quite nice. The best part about loot in that that patch was that you could find anything anywhere. Not very realistic but fun. Now, Imagine starting a brand new character in this loot economy. Theres no food, almost no loot at all anywhere near where you spawn. People arent very helpful as they are also starving so nobody gives you anything but grief. If you manage to pick enough apples and berries to get inland you notice that theres no loot there either. Its all gathered in some lootgasm somewhere on the map. If you find it you're home free, if you don't, you die. Not very realistic and not very fun. If everybody started out with survivalist gear to begin with it might work but they don't, so it doesn't. The people that left the game didn't do it because the game became difficult, they left because it became impossible. Hopefully the faults with persistance will be fixed eventually and then the difficulty can be tweaked. Maybe even the mod community will make different mods that cater to different types of playstyle and then everybody can be happy.

You're totally correct that have a little gear to start made all the difference. I think it would be fair to start character with a few basic items, perhaps randomly selected with very low loot. I have a theory that players have been strongly conditioned to kill on sight up to this point. With extremely low loot it would be in their best interest to cooperate a little more, trade, even beg to passerby. I've shown that people are willing to do this in previous videos. I think it would probably take weeks for players to de-habituate and start to realise that more often that not, working together will increase their chances of survival. It wouldn't eliminate PVP, and I would NEVER want that, it's the most exciting part of the game. But it's so much more exciting when you have more at stake than a 1 hour old character with an assault rifle.
