Tempestt 4 Posted April 21, 2015 Yesterday, my friend and I were driving around when I noticed a group of unmarked buildings on my map. We were curious, so we drove there. It turned out to just be concrete and patterns laid out for buildings to be placed, but the way it was organized made it look like a military base, perhaps with several barracks. I was wondering if anyone else has been here, and what you think of it. If you want to go, it is about 2 km directly north of Sinistok. Do you think this will be a military base, or something else? Do you think its a good idea? The map I found it on was iZurvive.

Tempestt 4 Posted April 21, 2015 Ah, I can't believe I forgot about that. My apologies. I think I may have forgotten about that after the implementation of the Kamensk base. Since it is near the border have they confirmed whether it is a tradtional Chernarussian base or possibly a UN-owned base?

They didn't even comment on it at the time, they only marked it on the map. Someone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Tempestt 4 Posted April 21, 2015 I don't think having a Western-themed would actually be that bad an idea. Given the rarity of western items as well as the relatively ease of finding the crash sites as long as you have a truck directly after restart, as well as the relative safety of looting crash sites (Yes, we have all gotten jn gunfights in a crash site, but I personally have gotten in many more in an actual base), creating a base that spawned western loot would create another prison island-like hotspot. Also if the devs are looking to implement American vehicles then this would add a logcial reason for their presence, unlike the crashed helicopters, which I have no clue as to how they got shot down. The derelict hinds do make sense, however.
gibonez 3633 Posted April 21, 2015 Last thing the map needs is even more military spawn points. Map is extremely saturated as it is with military spawn points with multiple bases, and dynamic military spawn points. A reduction of the static military points would probably be better as it would put a higher value on the areas that are left.
Tempestt 4 Posted April 21, 2015 Well, they are obviously already adding this base, so making it an American or other UN country's (Germany or Austria? Still unclear as to where Chernarus is located...) wont really increase military spawns compared to having it spawn Russian gear. However, personally, I think the amount of loot per base should be decreased. And the areas you talk about are getting more attention now with central loot economy. For some odd reason, the pricate server I am on is still running the central loot economy system, never got rolled back. The less military bases there are, the more hostile interactions there are because of a "this is the only place I can get this" mentality. While the amount of military loot should, in my opinion be less, but the amount of spawns should not be less, which, in effect, makes the items rarer. S3V3N 1402 Posted April 21, 2015 I think this might be a bit like the base on Namalsk with a big radio dish or similar installations. It might even be some kind of spaceport and possibly one of the research sites where the original virus developed. (Ever since those old zombie movies the notion of the virus coming from space has been kinda accepted). This is a very big area in total. It will probably be a bit like the Tschernobyl area, probably dangerous in many ways and not a place you can camp in or stay in over a long period of time. But I mean, I expect there to be a full infrastructure of housing and military installations side by side. Maybe a power station too, since we don't really have those, yet (we have industrial buildings with chimneys). This could be one of the more exiting areas of the map! I guess that's why they keep it for last.
igor-vk 909 Posted April 21, 2015 Big military base doesn't have to mean lots of military loot. There is not much loot in northern (Kamensk) base. Maybe there will be vehicles
Herkyl Puuro 52 Posted April 21, 2015 In the real world most countries have many military bases, depots, storages and other military installations scattered around the map. I don't see why the game shouldn't reflect this, especially keeping in mind that you can clearly see there has been a crisis in Chernarus with military involment, so there should be bunch of guns and other gear lying around. Still, as the game is now, it's quite easy to find civilian firearms such as Mosin, carbine, Repeater, Blaze but too difficult to find shotguns and pistols, and ammo and especially clips and magazines for them. Shotguns and hunting rifles etc I'd like to see more common than assault rifles.
Tempestt 4 Posted April 21, 2015 Yeah, I definately think there should be some extra danger in said base especially if containing unicorn guns like the M4. If it is a lab maybe a more deadly strain of the pathogen was created and makes incredibly difficult zombies? I have no clue but I don't think they realistically implement nuclear radiation without covering at least half the map with it.
gibonez 3633 Posted April 22, 2015 In the real world most countries have many military bases, depots, storages and other military installations scattered around the map. Not to the extent that chenarus does. Military bases are spread out far and wide, in Chenarus we got like 6 bloody bases all within a tiny area its quite ridiculous. . Ideally there should be 1 or tops 2 military bases in Chenarus to not only give value to the military spawns but to increase the risk associated with them. Then supplement that with dynamic spawns like helicopters .

gibonez 3633 Posted April 22, 2015 Seems like everybody camps Veresnik base though. Maybe if they had better options it might spread those players out more? No thats the point. Less static military loot locations thus increased risk and higher value on said military equipment found there. It's not about spreading out players but about creating value in military gear.

Chernarus is a miniature from a bigger country anyway, in that ridiculously tiny area there are also plenty of "big cities", villages, airports, harbors and recently many holiday sites. To me six or even more bases relates to number of civilian installations on the map.

I assume what we are calling military bases are more like armories. Check out this map of MN my home state. Every red dot is an armory and the larger ones have a symbol showing even at this scale. Those symbols are covering up other smaller ones in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. All across my state are armories.

Before it was an armory, it was a school for young children. There's no rule stating that military bases must spawn gear. Or specifically, end game weapons. Additionally, you have to assume that loot spawn will be balanced at the time of release whether there are six bases or one hundred. The map you posted is exponentially larger than that of chenarus. It only further proves my point that for the size of the map we should see 1 or 2 static military spawn points tops. The map is only 86 square miles here is the closest land equivalent I can find at 91 square miles in the form of an island. That really brings it into perspective. Map you listed was 160k square miles compared to chenarus being only 86. I would struggle to find any land area within your map where more than 1 military base or depo is located within 86 square miles. Tempestt 4 Posted April 22, 2015 I live within 30 minutes of both a major Air Force base and Army base. The AF base I drive past almost every day, currently has probably around 20-30 C-17s, as well as a few C-5s at times. I often times see a couple of F-18s as well. And in DayZ, for example, I would consider NWAF and the Versenik/Vybor base as one entity, and I would hardly consider the Kamensk base as a base... Seems to be a vehicle repository of some sorts. I'll even skip the metro area where there are like 10 of them in about 20 square miles and go into rural MN. Chishom is about 45 miles from Grand Rapids by roads and there are THREE armories located in that distance. This is in rural MN where most of what is showing is really tiny towns, lake cabins, and such. Grand Rapids has a population of about 11,000 and it is the county seat as one of the largest cities in the county. Armories are not that uncommon where I am from. Fort Ripley near here is huge and is a training ground for National Guard. About 20 miles from that is Brainerd MN where there is an armory... Fort Ripley has tanks and everything you could want for gear and there is an armory 20 miles from it, not even the edge of the camp which is like 10 miles away, but from the gate of Fort Ripley on the hwy. Shall I point out Long Prairie and Sauk Center are about 20 miles in the opposite direction each with an armory?

B4GEL 175 Posted April 22, 2015 After that map of new areas was revealed someone discovered that there is a radar base (manned by the 532nd battalion of electronic warfare) at roughly that location in the real Chernarus. So we can assume that is what it will be in DayZ too.
Deathlove 2286 Posted April 22, 2015 Yeah, I definately think there should be some extra danger in said base especially if containing unicorn guns like the M4M4s and M16s are pretty standard weapons. Now if were talking about something like a Sigsauer XI that can switch between AK, NATO, and 300 blackout or even a mini gun than you have every right to call it whatever the hell fruity weapon you want. I still have yet to see a gun in game that can fire unicorn rounds and rainbow grenades.......
Tempestt 4 Posted April 22, 2015 Delaware, I'm guessing? ;)Nope, south of Seattle. As I grew up they were two separate bases, but now they have technically been merged into one. They aren't on the same property, really, but they are close. The army base is the only deployment zone west of the Rockies and is a pretty large one.
