billyangstadt 272 Posted April 8, 2015 So, I've been playing on the UN First person server and I love it. As I was playing today, I see a message that says persistence is off until fixed. What includes "persistence"? Can I still place a tent to store loot? or does persistence being off stop all forms of storage?
Conrad_The_Comrade 577 Posted April 8, 2015 Basically without persistence being enabled, all the loot is restarted on server restart, and anything placed on the ground is removed. Not sure on the effect it has on vehicles

chokko 45 Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) with persistence OFF, the deployed tents will be gone also after a restart. with persistence ON, there are currently issues...some servers seem to maintain (persist) deployed tents after a restart some/most of the time...others are not at all. hence them 'being bugged'. and being wednesday "server maintenance day"...tents may be wiped anyway (unless packed up and held on a character) Edited April 8, 2015 by chokko
DemonGroover 8836 Posted April 8, 2015 Yep, atm the only gear safe from the restart is what you carry yourself.

Mookie (original) 799 Posted April 8, 2015 I'm not convinced by some of this apparent logic. With 0.55, persistence is 'mandatory' (I'm quoting) for all servers. As with most recent updates, the descriptors in the server names are often out of date. We do know that persistence is definitely not working with many servers (whatever their name says). My hunch is that a lot of clan servers have forced wipes on restart - which is a kind of 'persistence off'... But yes, whatever the case, do not count on any tents or otherwise 'persistent' items to be retained, other than what you are actually carrying. Perhaps too much to hope for any hotfix tomorrow? chokko 45 Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) My hunch is that a lot of clan servers have forced wipes on restart - which is a kind of persistence off... server renting companies (vilayer at least) have made persistence OFF an option again Due to the problems with persistence and the master/slave servers we have been given permission to enable the persistence tool again, you can now remove persistence from your server if you are having problems with loot. Herkyl Puuro 52 Posted April 8, 2015 Looks like some persistence issues are being solved... https://twitter.com/dayzdevteam/status/585788451150266369
Funkmaster Rick 373 Posted April 8, 2015 My hunch is that a lot of clan servers have forced wipes on restart - which is a kind of 'persistence off'...That is exactly why you should not play on clan servers, in general. With some research, it's highly possible to find clan servers run well by good folks - the UN-clan seem not to bone around, and I've been on a few others since the SA's release where you can expect fair play and a chance. Most of the clan servers I have personally played on are run more like the majority of servers back in the mod days, where admin abuse runs rampant. The SA hasn't given server owners as many options, but intentionally misleading server names and admin abuse are still rampant on the majority of clan servers - at least, the ones I've seen. Just make sure to research a clan before joining its server. Most times, a quick glance at their webpage will tell you if they're adult or not about their server habits.

albinoclock 45 Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) As of .55 persistence was switched on for all public servers and it had been announced that private servers would temporarily have the ability to switch it back off or reset it at will because loot wasn't respawning properly. Wednesday resets should be a thing of the past at this point according to the devs. This would mean that persistence on public servers is unlikely to be wiped in normal scenarios, as public admins no longer have access to persistency controls. Unfortunately there's still the possibility for bugs requiring unannounced global public persistency wipes, such as the one that came a couple days after the initial suggestion that we'd seen an end to the Wednesday wipes. I've also heard reports of tents not surviving resets on some servers. So basically you can make camps on public right now, but you shouldn't assume they'll stick around. You should probably test the server you're storing it on before you go dump all your stuff there, and you shouldn't assume that anything you leave lying around on the ground will last too long. That said, as of yesterday backpacks, protector cases, fireplaces, and tents were all persistent, as were their contents. Guns are also persistent, as are pumpkins (though they become invisible), possibly mags, and possibly other clothing or food items. Melee weapons, including the chain saw, do not seem to be persistent, nor do vests of any kind. So keep your swords, chain saws, and vests in your backpack. Also, tents are neat and all, but they're much more visible than a bag stashed between some out-of-the-way bushes. If you must make a camp with tents, I'd recommend you use it to distract from your best stored gear rather than hold it. I'd guess this will probably change with future iterations of item degradation. In the end, persistency is awesome but the most reliable way to store gear, especially now, is on a character. Personally, I've got multiple accounts for exactly that purpose. Save some guns for when you need them and help fund development, make a mule! Kirov (DayZ) 585 Posted April 8, 2015 Wednesday resets should be a thing of the past at this point according to the devs. Does that mean that the tents will soon actually become, you know, useful? That's great to hear! Up until now the tents were minus useful if you weren't sure about the wipe. No mate, I'm not gonna make a mule, the lack of anything resembling even a smallest base (persistent for many weeks) is one of my bigger problems with DayZ and I kinda expect the devs to take care of it. I still remember clocking 20+ hours from feedshack to feedshack to find my first tent in 0.47 or whatnot, only to find out it can't hold its Wednesdays. Oh, the pain.
