Armored, silent, ninja, stealth zombies + no loot = win?I

The rate at which you starve is not "fine." You can either have food be rare with a more realistic starvation mechanic, or you can keep the same system but have a lot more food. Like I said, I have played numerous characters across numerous hives. I played all the way inland, and I still found nothing that could help me get food. I found a can of food about every 10 minutes of searching, which helps nothing because food barely fills you. I found no hoes, no fertilizer, nothing to make a fishing pole, no guns to hunt with. Berry/apple picking is a gigantic waste of time and even if you do manage to fill up on them, you'll be starving again within 40 minutes.

If you think this is "crying" then you have no clue what you are talking about. Sometimes people manage to land on a server that hasn't been picked clean yet. That is not the case for the vast majority, who constantly land on servers where even remote towns are picked clean of any good loot.

Finally, all features are not "placeholders." If that was the case, then no progress would have been made at all towards the game. Each feature implemented has a very good chance of making it to the final game, even if they aren't good, if people don't voice their opinions and criticize them. The bias this forum has towards the game is abundantly clear. People here were basically stating, "This loot system is best working on yet! Everyone who doesn't agree is a CoD player who shouldn't be playing this game." The devs then stated that the central loot economy and loot system was broken. Ironically, forumnators are still defending the broken system.

Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make them "crybabies."

None of that is the case, and you are trying to use extremes of hypothetical arguments to better suit your own desires.  Players know that loot is messed up as devs have been spending the last week expressing across multiple forms of social media.

Most players who are "crying" do so thinking features are final upon first iteration.

And sorry to burst your bubble.  Everything is placeholder or a WIP until the game moves into a release candidate.

Most players are not defending the broken system for being broken, they are defending what they currently like about the system and the hardcore survival feel it has introduced, minus bugs that happened to pop up.

There were no "hypothetical" situations. I would have not posted this topic if all of it was hypothetical. This comes from experience as well as multiple others who I have talken too. Besides, this topic isn't mainly about the broken loot and hunger mechanics, its about the zombies. As I stated before, Zombies are supposed to get more numerous but easier to kill, making them a huge threat because they have numbers. Instead, they have been continually getting stronger, faster, and tougher. If these zombies were to be implemented into real hordes, they would be way OP, and nobody short of an army would be able to even survive them.

Also, "placeholder" isn't the right term. That suggests that everything is going to be replaced, but that's not the case. Everything is subject to change.

Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make them "crybabies."

I didn't call anybody a crybaby. I said they're crying - that is to say whining about the current state of DayZ. That they agree or disagree with me is irrelevant. I happen to believe that the level of loot in unlooted towns is near-perfect. I'll find a few cans of food and maybe a new backpack and some ammo, then I'll move on. The problem is that too many towns are completely cleared out.

The rate at which players starve is fine. The amount that food fills you up might not be, but the rate of starvation assuming players find no food whatsoever after they spawn is fine. You proposed a 2 1/2 hour time to starve rather than the current 20-30 minutes. That would be stupid.

As far as I'm aware, the loot system is not broken. Persistence on private hives isn't working properly (and as such has been disabled) and loot tables haven't been configured yet so we can find AK74s in houses and schoolbags in barracks, but that doesn't constitute 'broken', it constitutes 'unfinished'. As in Work in progress. As in placeholder. Everything in DayZ is subject to change.

People who tell others to play Call of Duty because they don't like the new loot system are idiots, as are those who say 'if you don't like it, leave'. People shouldn't be discouraged from offering constructive criticism, and they shouldn't be equated to CoD players or told to leave because they don't like some game feature.

Your frustration is understandable but, as the devs have said, the new loot system has only been partially implemented. I'd wait for 0.56 or until the loot system is more complete. I often wait a few version if there's a feature I don't like or if something doesn't work. When I come back I often find that feature has been smoothed out. That's no to say you shouldn't offer feedback, of course, but you should consider what the game will be like in a few months' time before you do so.

I think it's a pretty fun way to play, one time it was raining, and I was trying to balance hunger with apple picking and staying warm and dry.

The only problem I have is that I can see a tree full of apples that I can't pick. I would rather them provide even less fuel, but be more plentiful. If I need to fill up coat, vest, pants pockets and a bag, so be it, that is the compromise I'll take.

Standing in one place hoping and praying to 'found a thing' probably could use a bit of tweaking, but again I do like the overall mechanic.

Have you tried the berry bushes? I haven't played for about 2 - 3 months as 7Days is taking up my time but in 5 minutes I could have 12 berries and in another 5 at an apple tree maybe 4 - 6 apples. Easily enough to keep yourself alive until you have rope (I mean, you did make the stone knife and cut the ash stick right and find the feathers and sticks and made the arrows so you could hunt the deer right away once you found the rope?).

Sounds to me as though some people need to start treating this game for a survival game rather than a "gather weapons as quick as possible and go PVP". When you make your objective the same as the games, surviving, it's amazing how easy it is to do once you know what trees and bushes to look for.

Sorry, I got you an Gordo confused. It would be awesome if food filled you up atleast 3x the rate it does now. I wouldn't have a problem with the 30 minute starvation mechanic if that was the case. It's just that now, I eat 2 full cans of beans, and am back to extremely hungry in 2 minutes. A meal, at the very least, should satiate your character for 40 minutes be for he starts starving again.

I still think it would be nice to have 40 minute 24 hour days in DayZ. If that happens, then a character shouldn't starve for atleast a day.

Where are these statistics coming from anyway I keep seeing 70-75% of players hate this update yet I was never surveyed? Three quarters of your clan mate or friends didn't read the road map for the game devolpment maybe?

Berry and apple picking is very tedious now its like a 1 in 5 success rate and you cant spam it you have to play the whole animation so it takes a very long time

I have yet to actually get to energized just eating apples/berrys at best you can stay off the yellow hungry til the next town it becomes a pretty torturous effort spending 20 minutes in each town

foraging berries/apples

Wildlife hunting with a bow take somes skill now too IF you can sneak up close enough to a deer to get into range to take it out with a bow which IF you take it down raises the next concern you can eat 4 90% steak from red starving and it will only bring your hunger level to the neutral blank indicator

But strangely 3 human steaks can get your bright green granted this is all tested eating raw steaks as fire is now something only demi-gods possess which leads to yet another issue

cooking implements seem to be non existant

It is clear we are being forced to test survival right now which is not so much the drama for me i do not mind the harder survival

Zombies would be the biggest issue i would raise and not even the crazy ass bitch slapping they do

It is completely correct as previously post punching them is the most efficient way to dispatch them and i dont think that is anything to do with melee values or place holding it has always been like this

Everyone spent so much time arguing bullet physics and weapons ballistics for mah realism that everyone forgot smacking something in the head with a boat oar is far more leathal than a jab to the face and this is something that has never been addressed to my knowledge

It seemed the vocal community cared more about place holding ammunition being wrong and ruining there immersion because a russian round going into a nato weapon is absurd

as oppossed to a crowbar  being able to one shot a zombie/player

Now there is fuck all firearms i guess people might care about melee and its bizzaro system

just saying

Yes that's right! Until you can make the required items and gain the skill you will be eking out an existence - as one would except in a survival game, right?

I was only commenting on what I felt about apples. I agree that these things will be tweaked eventually, so I guess my point is moot, but I just posted here for the sake of discussion, I guess.

I'm not going to tell anyone how to play the game, but myself, I could care less about PVP and weapons. I just don't care for standing around too much.. anything but standing around is pretty okay with me.

True.... until you craft them leather pants from an animal you hunted and killed to find out they are only 2 slots

I'm certainly not enjoying the new zombies. I really like the stealth system but it's not 100% fool proof, you will occasionally still need to fight zombies.

Right now the zombies are taking 3 or 4 hits with a fireaxe to kill. The are also far too quick and can catch me when I'm sprinting flat out. Running from them is difficult and fighting them is difficult and the combination is really irritating. Lately the are silent too. Several times I have been crouched in a field looking through my inventory just to be suddenly attacked from behind by a zombie. No! that's too much.

Zombies need to be easier to kill with melee weapons, not just with fireaxes but with ALL of them. I read somewhere that it takes 21 head shots to kill them with a crowbar, fighting them with a baseball bat, knife, machete, wrench etc. is practically impossible. That is not realistic or good gameplay,

Obviously I would like to see them be slower too so that I can sprint away, I really don't like how they will follow me for a half a mile.

Traditionally zombie's biggest strength is volume and that's been true for every zombie film, game or zombie anything ever made. Weak but numerous, that's what they need to be. Not solo and tanks.

Does anyone actually read posts?

I said that it was difficult because they ran faster than you. I also said that they follow you for a half mile, which they do. Both those things are true. I didn't say they didn't lose intrest after a while, because they do.

It really does appear that half the people on this forum just have a knee-jerk reaction to any form of criticism against the game. It's not perfect, it's unfinished, jesus.

I agree with you on crit. Part. This place feels like after the debs make another 30 million in 15 years I'll still hear the alpha excuse.

But, the rest of your post is crap. Try staying hydrated for one, and using objects to break line of sight.

Oh and left shift is default sprint you might want to use that too.

Food problem is just search better, and zombies are op, yes, but the game is in alpha, and the game use the alpha and this forum to report issues, don't try to play a game is not finished, have fun and report the issues, not having fun? Ok wait for other update, read posts, reviews before buy anything.

Well unfortunately games have rules so at some point, if someone is doing something wrong that makes them lose the game, they'll need to be told how to play it ;)

Have you tried fighting them in door ways or narrow passages - running away cannot be an option in this game or it'll just turn into Benny Hill. I haven't played the new patch so I dunno what the zeds are like but usually, with new mechanics comes new ways to deal with them.

21 hits? Here we have the pointless weapon that never should have been developed. Wasted your coding time devs! When weapons become this useless nobody will pick them up and there is simply no way you're going to survive a few hard smacks on your head with a crowbar. Of course, it could be latency and you're lagging and not hitting their heads - at least the server doesn't think so.
