stinkenheim 249 Posted March 17, 2015 I know that's why we went there because we knew there would be some action... but this was just stupidSo you went there looking for action and post you got shot and killed... Fair enough you say you weren't bandits but if are well armed around places like beri or kami then people will assume you are there to shoot everyone and won't take a risk.Sounds like they did what the majority of players would have done... Also, did you have guns drawn?

sachad 1016 Posted March 17, 2015 I know that's why we went there because we knew there would be some action... but this was just stupid Well, you're both dead, so they still win. Excluding newspawns, here's only two kinds of people who hang around in Kamyshovo: Murderers and victims. To illustrate, I'm not typically one to open hostilities, but everyone I see running around Kamyshovo with a gun is an automatic hostile to me, and I will kill you if I get the chance. blowurselfup 54 Posted March 17, 2015 Remember this In DayZ, the killer gets to decide who is the bandit and who was the hero. Who was right and who was wrong

ColdAtrophy 1850 Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) I'm beginning to think this... I hate kos but I'm beginning to think it's the only way to survive! I got to that point where I started thinking that way a couple days ago. I tried to be friendly but I was approaching people the wrong way and making myself an easy target. I have since changed my mind after playing the game with a buddy for a few days and picking up tips from him. For now, at least until I get more experience, I move slowly, I use binoculars, and I avoid others like the plague. If I run into someone unexpectedly and I have no way to escape unhindered, I shoot to kill. Do not approach guys in full mil gear carrying two weapons. They are more likely to be looking for something to shoot. Avoid the main roads, use bushes and trees to your advantage, take the long way if it provides more cover, and dress the best you can for not making yourself an easily visible target. If you must go to a military loot area, be quick, careful, and don't try to loot every single location by yourself. The second your boots cross the threshold into NWAF, for example, a clock begins ticking. I would not suggest that a person, especially one new to the game, go anywhere near these large military bases without backup. Even then, it is likely that not everyone will walk out alive, especially on a public server. In my opinion, KoS is not the answer either. The secret lies in a good middle ground between the two. You have to understand the context of where you are, who is with you, what you might encounter, what you look like to another player, who is with you, and behave accordingly. HarryPotter (DayZ) 172 Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) Being seen is not the issue. I can loot dangerous places and hide and never be seen, but I actively seek out interaction and never shoot 1st, however this is resulting in my death nearly everytime. Single players seem to be fine it just really the large groups. Like I can track them but when I move in to say hello then I get Kos... this is why I'm now thinking I'm just gonna kill them instead of trying to interact...I've had a 'warm an fuzzy' approach to the game but I think I will put an end to this game style and start to be a c@nt Edited March 17, 2015 by HarryPotter
emuthreat 2837 Posted March 17, 2015 Met two friendly players in Kamishovo this past Sunday. Both times we were both fresh, fisrt guy was happy that I gave him my backpack and directed him to a decent melee weapon, he had places to be. The second guy was also directed to a backpack and food, and we ended up running all the way to NW to meet his friends. It's a goofy bunch of HS kids, but they seem okay, actually gonna hop on with them here in a moment. I'm starting to see a pattern here: when I am not a KOS bastardo, people are usually pretty cooperative. How was he supposed to know I had no bullets yet? "Hey! You there with the broom. Stop chasing me like that and I'll show you to some food. Would you like to see my pile of three-of-everything out in the woods?" That is how friends are made in DayZ. zeotrope 76 Posted March 18, 2015 Pick any full server and go to Kamy. Geared or not you are sure to be entertained. Everyone seems to act bizarrely. Fresh spawns will rush fully geared players. Noobs run about muttering incoherent ramblings in broken, low volume, gibberish. Squeakers gonna squeak. Campers gonna camp. Koser's gonna...well you get the idea. Kamyshovo is not the end of the world. But you can see it from there. Ride at your own risk.

xalienax 621 Posted March 18, 2015 -SNIP- In my opinion, KoS is not the answer either. The secret lies in a good middle ground between the two. You have to understand the context of where you are, who is with you, what you might encounter, what you look like to another player, who is with you, and behave accordingly. this. KOS doesn't solve your problem. KoS'rs die all the time too. instead be a Survivor. stop trying to group everyone into a good cam and a bad camp and realize that in the apocalypse the goal is to live for one more (virtual) day. Be smart, Be practical, and always be ready to adapt to the situation. I don't go to the beach looking to random D/M newspawns but by the same token if i have the drop on a kitted out guy and have a good weapon, sorry bro your s*it is mine! im an opportunist. im a survivor. to me 'winning' at dayZ = not dead yet

This should be in a survival guide :) ... But yes it's very tough trying to figure out who you are in chernarus , at one point I said to myself "fuck it I'll just be a koser it's so much easier" .. Well I realized yes it is easier but it's not as much fun as being a hero (or a sophisticated bandit). The real fun in this game comes from interaction so like ColdAtrophy said, it all comes down to finding a middle ground, only kill when it really comes down to it and don't put yourself in stupid situations and always take cover ... It takes time to figure out proper approaches to all types of scenarios but don't be deterred if you keep getting killed just keep trying and try to make progress at being stealthier and better each life !
