Win32

Recommended Posts

EDIT: Apparently some people are having trouble to understand a question, so here are some facts...

1) I Know WinXP isn't supported by DayZ

2) I Know it is an old OS

3) My main computer is Win7

4) My old WinXP ran DayZ much faster

5) Even though the minimum specs state WinV as the minimum, DayZ used to run on WinXP as well

6) I am not angry because this happened

7) I am not asking the devs to support WinXp

8) I play DayZ on my Win7

9) I know WinXP has too many security flaws, but I know how to protect my computer and I'm virus free with everything I need (except for DayZ now)

10) I use this old computer for work (some programs run better here), but I also have some games installed here

11) I do have a copy of Win95 as well...no need to brag about it

12) The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim, Max Payne 3, ArmA3, Thief, The Sims 4 and NBA 2k14 still run on WinXp altough none of them support WinXp (Don't belive everything you read and experiment on your own)

13) Thanks to Kichilron, the only one capable of answering my question

So...apparently I cannot play DayZ anymore :( is because I have WinXP?

have you tried the "Verify integrity of Game Cache" option? other than that delete dayz and Re-Install might fix the issue

-I am afraid to change-

It never officially supported it.

Minimum requirements have always been:

CPU: Intel Dual-Core 2.4 GHz or AMD Dual-Core Athlon 2.5 GHz CPU Speed: Info RAM: 2 GB OS: Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7 SP1 Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT or AMD Radeon HD 3830 or Intel HD Graphics 4000 with 512 MB VRAM Sound Card: Yes Free Disk Space: 10 GB

Not sure why you would expect a 2015 peice of software to support a 15 year old operating system.

Incase you're not aware:

Official support for Windows XP was supposed to end 2007!

I can not stretch this enough - not only is it heavily outdated - it's a massive security-issue!

I do not care about official support, I already know that...my PC is Win7, but this one is XP and I've been playing a lot of hours here before... knowing that even it is said that it doesn't work on XP...it does, now it doesn't...all I'm asking is if that is the reason. Nothing else. Please read and stick to that

We ALL know that is never was supported, that doesn't change the fact that DayZ runs better my old XP than my gamer Win7...I want to know if that is the reason...that's all. Why is so hard to read the question?

Well if the min. requirements have stated that it was never supported I think that would answer your questions. Time to upgrade bud!

First of all: calm down.

Second of all: yes, that's the reason.

It was possible to launch up until now, but it has been removed with 0.53 as far as I'm aware. If you know it has never been supported it's not really a thing to accuse us of not thinking of the obvious.

Either,

yes it is a massive conspiracy that boheimia has to influence your choice of O/S (most likely due to pressure from Microsoft)

-or-

They are taking advantage of features the newer operating systems provide.

Personally i would choose the former since it makes so much sense.

I used Win XP up until the last DayZ patch and haven't had a virus or malware for years. I installed Win 7 to play DayZ and boom... new malware I have to take care of almost immediately. Also, DayZ performance took a hit from it.

If they decided tommorrow that they would support Win XP, I would reinstall it regardless of any memory concerns.

getting yourself infected is not a matter of OS you use, it's a matter of choice, what to click on, and what to stay clear of.

the worst security issue always sits infront of the screen.

i know that, because i'm one of those who have to clean up the mess people do to their computers day after day.

Installing Win 7 didn't miraculously make me make any more sketchy clicks, so not sure what your point is. And yes many times it is a matter of what OS you use, unless you are the alien mothership in independence day. Not many people use XP anymore which is the reason why people aren't developing much malware specifically for it anymore, all the casual PC users now have Win 7. On top of that Win XP has been patched and refined for a decade, it is a simpler operating system with less holes and vulnerabilities, so regardless of any support it is still more secure than Win 7. In fact, they were still releasing security updates as of the time that I installed Win 7, which wasn't very long ago.

Look harder, I wasn't the only person who used XP or XP compatibility to run DayZ faster. DayZ doesn't need that much memory to run smoothly, not even close to the max amount a 32 bit Win XP OS can provide. My DayZ ran on windows XP with crap system specs faster than a lot of people with new $1000 computers, I often found myself helping others optimize their rediculously OP systems for DayZ while playing on a tin can.

the point is... you need to click on the malware. it doesn't miraculously start itself, some part of user interaction has to be involved.

anyways, infecting your windows machine right after a fresh install, can't remember i've seen that in my 15 years in business. my hats of to you.

and using windows xp as a malware protection is an interesting approach, have my beans for the good laugh xD

My system wasn't infected with malware, I took care of it before that. Also, yes malware can "miraculously start itself".

Malware usually comes bundled with other programs not by itself, nobody goes and clicks on malware itself, no wonder you are always cleaning up your moms computer. Unless you do nothing but use wikipedia then you are bound to get malware at some point without any protection. After a decade of using windows xp perfectly fine without any malware, amazingly enough with the same protection I used on windows xp malware rears its ugly head. I know what it was bundled with, and downloading the same thing on a win xp machine doesn't give you any malware amazingly enough.

Don't let wimmins, chibens, or old people use your computer, remember there's lots of free porn but no such thing as "more free porn" and you can stay virus free raw-dogging the internet.

Why is thread even a thing? It was stated a while back that this game will not be supported on it anymore.

Keep in mind, some of us run new OSes, me personally running Win8.1, However, I used to run in compatibility with WinXP for FPS increase.

Windows XP (as well as any other unmaintained code) is a public nuisance and it should not be connected to the Internet. Have a look at http://map.ipviking.com/ from time to time and look at all of the zombie PCs participating in DDOS and other attacks. Allowing this code to have Internet access is not simply about you and your careful/carelessness. It puts all of us at risk.

Running the latest OS does not make you immune to the bad guys, but leaving the back door wide open, with milk and cookies sitting on the counter is extremely irresponsible.

Come on you lazy developers, DayZ doesn't run on my copy of Windows 95. This is complete crap; I shouldn't be expected to update my OS every twenty years, you guys should accommodate me as I paid for your product!
