Killed a combat logger...

Recommended Posts

Uh oh, I just logged out, didn't see anyone, but I guess that makes me a "combat logger" just because I am not standing by and waiting around to be abused, according to some on these forums.

I wonder, how of these "combat loggers" actually just evaded these leet playas?  [/sarcasm on]Cause you know, there's no way anyone could evade me and my leet skillz, right?  Must have been a combat logger.[/sarcasm off]

Many have acknowledged that the player from the OP's story is not necessarily a combat logger, but we all know that logging in a frequented area, especially near a high value loot location, is taking quite the chance. But like you said, this guy likely wasn't a combat logger but there's no way to truly know. If he logged after seeing OP, then I'd say hes a combat logger - but there's no way to know this.

I'd also argue that neither shots nor words must be exchanged in order to refer to logging off as "combat logging" - I think it's more or less the term used to describe those who log to avoid any sort of interaction with another player once making visual or audible contact. (Ie: hearing another players footsteps outside a building and logging off.)

In fact the only times I've ever been blatantly combat logged on is after visual contact - the player sees me and immediately logs.

I see what you are saying but I believe we are broadening the definition to pretty much include anyone who just logs out.  I am completely against that.  We only know one side of the story, guy could have CTD'd, maybe his ping was too high and the server booted him or his power went out and along with it his internet (happened to me just yesterday, came back on in about 30 minutes and when I got back in I was way further down the road but otherwise ok).

I just think it is impossible to "combat log" if there hasn't been some kind of mutual "combat" using words, gestures or bullets between two (or more) players.

I'm only intending to broaden it to the point of including logging out to avoid any interaction because lets face it - no one logs to avoid a pleasant interaction, they log for fear of a violent interaction. Someone could CTD even when in a firefight so that is a factor in all situations, not just ones in which there is no combat. Like I said, I've never been literally combat logged on to my knowledge (during a firefight) - but I've been logged on in several occasions when other players see me (though not recently). This is avoiding confrontation to begin with and I believe it should be frowned on. If we're just arguing semantics then I can call it "confrontation logger" if that helps.  :P

Nonetheless I still agree that the guy from the first post was likely not a combat/confrontation logger.

There is a difference between combat logging and just logging out of the game.  If you are not actively engaged in a fight with said player, they are not combat logging.  From what the OP stated, he just wandered upon the player logging out.  That is not combat logging, congrats you killed a player logging out in a bad spot...

My first posting- I've got about 100 hours so far on standalone.

Can someone please tell me how I'm supposed to play the game?

Am I EVER allowed to log off? I mean, I have to pee really bad. The house is on fire. I haven't eaten in almost a week.

It sounds like if I don't kill everyone on the map before leaving then I'm ruining the game. Am I ruining the game? I really don't want to do that. But I do really want to go to the bathroom, call the fire department and maybe eat something.

i was disappoint but same time now i was felt like a big responsability on me to protect this person who dont have no power to defend himself against m4 bandits so i was run in the street and i see the players coming they shot in my area but miss so i was run on other side of street and was good decide because they was follow me in opposit way from my frend and they kill me but i think was enough time for my frend to be safe maybe was mistak to do it but in my heart is evrytime best way to help player who is ned and if i am die but he can survive i felyt proud

Combat Logging is whenever you exit the game to avoid combat. In other words, to avoid player interaction.

Load. Of. Shit.

Combat logging is when you're already in combat with another player and log off to avoid death.

Load. of double pooey!!!!!!!

Think of this.. I'll take it slow for ya.. "Combat... Logging.." again.. "COMBAT... LOGGING" Logging out: to leave, get away from, avoid, something that would happen if you were still in whatever you logged out from.  Combat: Whenever two or more people, go against each-other with the outcome of most commonly death.

If somebody logs out to get away from, or avoid something, and that something would be combat, then therefore Combat Logging is to log out to avoid the outcome of combat, weather it be if the combat has yet to start, about to start, or has already started.

Some days I wish I couldn't read!

Really think some of you need to step away from the keyboard.

Was he combat logging? Probably not, Who cares?

Did he deserve to die? Probably. Who cares?

Would I have done the same? For sure!

Would someone have done it to me? For sure!

There are some lessons to be learnt here:

1) If you log out, you may die.

2) Don't come here and tell us about trivial crap like this, you stir up the "emotional, got too much time on their hands and take the game far too seriously" type.

3) It's a game

I leave all the time when I need to piss/shit/take a phone call and I either leave my player hidden or I log in a semi-safe area with the knowledge that I may die. This is not combat logging.

If you see a player and intentionally log to avoid confrontation, this is combat logging.

Not super complicated.

Though I completely agree that combat logging is low, I feel wrong killing someone when you see them in that pose.

To Explain:

What if your getting shot at in the game, and all of a sudden you need to leave your house because you forgot to pick up your kids, or you need to be somewhere, or something happened etc...?

I wouldn't say "Play it safe," kill him because more than 90% of those situations the person is combat logging, I recommend "Playing it Safe" that this may be that ONE guy that needs to leave.

Its SUPER Difficult to make that determination when you get shot at and then the person tries to CLog out... Idk

I guess my point is is that it's not clear cut and dry the way some of you guys are talking about it.

If you forgot about your kids you deserve to be shot.

This...

this is why I posted to the forums, I will always kill a combat logger no matter what... but I felt conflicted on this kill.

he wasn't in direct confrontation with me, but he also denied me of an experience with him in what I feel is how the game should be played.

Don't matter you treat it as a hostile.

I agree there was two ways to take it, didn't know and was logging off for the night or did see you either way he's dead or is he?

Or we all could play care bears and sit in the open fire in electro and share the little teddy bears.........and pop and chips... oh wait no chips, how about cereal.
