when you find a vehicle, will you be required to fill it with gas first or will it be ready when it spawns? 

i dont want to celebrate that i found one and then be out of gas  and then search the entire map for a jerry can 0_o

We were lucky enough to find two trucks between the 3 of us last night. It still lags quite a bit when you're a passenger but I think I edited most of it out. Two trucks in a convoy through Chernarus is pretty sweet.

Aye these trucks are darn rare to find, on a server which is mostly empty most of the day me and my buddy searched nearly any city where it could have one and it's not there. Cause walking from A to B can take a long time and then especially if it rains for 10 minutes then stops and then 2 seconds later it rains again for 15 seconds and then stops, which doesn't really give you much time to wring out your clothes and warm up, unless you're in a building nearly the entire time you play the game. I am quite interested to try one of these lardasses out :P

Vehicles is the feature I'm most looking forward to.  I've accepted the fact that I die a lot due to bugs and lack of skill, but the walk to get geared back up is really getting boring.  Even just a bike would be great.

 

I avoid interacting with players when I'm geared because I don't want to spend the next two hours running around trying to gear myself again,

So, today i wanted to try a social experiment. To fill the gas tank in V3S truck to the top and to travel around the Chernarus. My start was Pustoshka and my goal supposed to be Kamenka. This is my story:

 

I was waiting for 12:00 restart (13:00 CET) on Septic server so i can start my V3S because i was already at Pustoška, with 5 spawn points. Not long after i went back i have found a truck and i already had jerry can that i was dragging in my mountain backpack for days. So i traveled from Pustoška to Vybor and went north west to Toploniki for a safer tank refill since i wasn't feeling safe at Vybor gas station. I love how the north is changing. Before i entered Severograd i lifted the hood so i can use it as a shield if anyone wanted to kill me from the front. I wasn't that surprised that nobody attacked me in Severograd but few minutes after, at the entrance of Svergino a bandit started shooting at me with a pump action shotgun and the 2nd bandit was doing the same but in Svetlojarsk. Low fps and narrow road stopped me from escaping fast from him so i had to take the rail route and i wasn't very satisfied since he was catching up to me pretty easy so i cut through the forest and descended into the ocean (sea) Yes, an exploit - in the name of the experiment. A came back to the shore at Berezino and instantly i had 3 bandits running toward me all fully geared and without any communication they opened fire at me. With great success i have escaped them and the only casualty was an innocent bambi laying on the tarmac. At the end of Berezino there was 2 bambies that tried to take over the truck, but...you know, i moved on. Before Elektro where was 3 more bambie encounters and in Elektro 3 bambies at one spot and a bandit that started shooting at me. Some of them managed to close the hood i was feeling pretty vulnerable so i had to use a first chance to stop a truck and to open up a hood again. After Electro i saw a corpse laying in the middle of the road, with the position to conclude that he committed suicide (i don't know the reason) My experiment unfortunately came to an end at Prigorodki when i saw a lucky bambie that was chasing me not knowing that my PC is about to give up (or DayZ gave up). I've lost session and DayZ crashed. If only i've passed a message to that human, that the show must go on, and to finish it at Kamenka. Well, another time maybe.

Haha, nice. But does the hood really protect you from bullets? When somebody shoots at the vehicle can they damage it?

It does protects you from frontal attacks, it's confirmed :) 

 

Well, you can blow tires but you can drive quite normal after that. It's still basic implementation of vehicles, later they will add all sorts of stuff.

People are waiting for vehicles for ages, now you make them and then hide them?? What's the point? Make at least one (preferably more) available in each town so we can have fun with them without having to look for them for hours

Oh god! We should probably spawn with M4's as well huh? Maybe stop server hoping and play the game like it is intended.

 

WARNING: (For new players) Make sure the vehicle is completely stopped before getting into it. Also it is highly recommended you don't try to get into passenger side when the vehicle is on slopes.

The VS3 has a hatch for a pintle mounted MG above the passenger seat. A 12.7mm or an aoutomatic gernade launcher for the guy riding shotgun would make climbing a hill less scary.

Yes and no. Those are just carry-overs from the ArmA engine, you'll find the same thing in the ArmA config.

The thread has been hovering near the top and the front of the Announcements and Information section. It's been so for awhile, due to the desire for any new info on vehicles.

Yes, there are better places to find that info, but people are going to check this thread out eventually. I have still been checking this thread out myself in my info searches, just in case someone mentions something interesting or new here. 

Other people are also going to come across this thread and read it, regardless of its age. And I at least wanted to provide a reasonable explanation to that specific question.

People are going to notice those commands in the control menu, because it's kind of a mess at the moment, and they'll most likely be confused for the reason for those options if they haven't played Arma 2 or 3, or aren't used to a game in an alpha state, particularly one that has carried many of its assets over from a previous engine.
