Frost20 20 Posted November 5, 2014 Its hard to have respect for a game developer who clearly doesn't give a crap about its tester experience, but here's my drop in the wishbucket (as that seems what everyone else is doing on these forums) Add a version that cuts the map down to 1/30 of its current size so i can actually "test" this game with other players, or better yet, find my friends. As it stands the map is only 5% viable and the rest is just a big waste of time.
Conrad_The_Comrade 577 Posted November 5, 2014 Well, I'm sorry to disappoint, but Chernarus isn't shrinking. It's supposed to be a giant apocalyptic wasteland. If you can't manage finding your friends by following the coastline, I'm sorry but no one is to blame but you. Good luck and keep warm :)
Kirby12352 67 Posted November 5, 2014 I personally prefer the map to be large. Having it cut down to 1/30 of its size sounds like it'd be a big bloodbath. Honestly I don't find it that hard to find other players to test stuff with. Finding friends can be a bit difficult, but it isn't as hard when you know where to find specific map locations. I can see a smaller map maybe being helpful for testing stuff out, but people would get shot constantly and it'd just end up being a big COD-style last man standing situation.

What are you even doing? Killing the one-two zombies that run at you sometimes which go through walls, lag around, ect?Running along the road for 30 mins?Opening 100 houses hoping to find something that you may never use anyways? I actually enjoy the game when i meet other players but that happens once like every 3 hours
-Gews- 7443 Posted November 5, 2014 40 players confined to a 2.7 km square... sounds like a nightmare. Sounds like DayZ: Utes in fact. Modding time...

Happy hunting! You dont think i've tried this?Look at my post count, you think im some sort of blotto with no brain? Of course ill find a few individuals, rarely. And as much as i like 1 on 1 encounters im usually met with a mute. Is this one of those forums where any idea is shot down without counterargument? If it is feel free to take my white flag. I honestly dont even care that much any more.
Geckofrog7 1168 Posted November 5, 2014 (edited) Ahahahahahaha no. The point of this game is to be a huge open world for you to survive in. You're not meant to be shooting people very often. Unless you've made that your goal in this game, in which case, knock yourself out..but you're not gonna get much action out of it. And even for testing purposes until we have vehicles, no. We're here to test until the game is released..not necessarily have fun. (though of course you can do both with the right mindset.) I actually enjoy the game when i meet other players but that happens once like every 3 hours Sounds like you've just been having bad luck. I normally play on 40 player servers, and I meet someone usually every hour to an hour and a half. The map is meant to be a big, apocalyptic wasteland with a very small population of survivors, not some confined COD arena where you find a new player every 5 seconds. If I were stuck with 40 people in a small as heck 2.7 km square, people would respawn, and be sniped by the people who are camping the only loot locations. At least in COD you start with weaponry. In DayZ, you start with a shirt, jeans, shoes, and a flashlight. Finding loot on high-pop servers would be almost impossible, and server-hopping would be at an all time high, due to desperate people going on servers with no people online, trying to get some sort of weapon so they'd at least stand a chance. There would also be rampant new spawns with nothing to lose, so they run into the loot locations punching everyone in the head. To be honest it sounds like you'd be more content with COD zombie mode, where you get a good weapon in 5 minutes and your friends respawn five feet away from you. Plus, there's no buggy zombies in COD, because COD games aren't in early access like DayZ is, which you're clearly warned about every time you boot up DayZ. If you cannot survive in this game right now you may need to look into your hobby choice and reconsider. Seriously. The alpha isn't a game yet. It's gonna be a lot harder further on, but our main job right now is to test stuff for bugs. Of course it's gonna be more boring right now..but that's why it's not considered a full game yet. Sounds like taking a break from SA might be a good idea, maybe go play the Mod for a little while until vehicles are in. Nothing wrong with that. I actually made a bet with myself that you would reply with the same old "its alpha" response. Thanks for reminding me, again, see my posts? By the way- how about shrinking the boundries so there isnt so much useless map area while we test the game?

By the way- how about shrinking the boundries so there isnt so much useless map area while we test the game? I understand your frustration with "alpher" responses, but in this case, it really is true. We can't just cut off most of the map to test it..the map is one of the biggest things we're testing. How fun would it be, say, if they went through with this, and walking inside any house on the part of the map that they left out caused you to fall through the floor and die? I didn't scream "ALPHER!!1" to excuse a flaw in the game, I was quoting it because that's out job as testers. We're not necessarily supposed to be having tons of fun. (also sorry about my first reply, that looks rather douchey now that I look at it. knee jerk reaction.) Edited November 5, 2014 by Geckofrog7
bfisher 561 Posted November 5, 2014 "alpha" has little to nothing to do with it. It's supposed to be a giant, sparsely populated map. That's not going to change. Think back to films like I Am Legend / Omega Man, Book of Eli, Mad Max 2, The Road. The opening scenes of 28 Days Later or when Rick Grimes wakes up in the hospital in Season 1, Episode 1 of The Walking Dead. That's you in this game. You're supposed to wake up on the shore of this weird post-Soviet state with no idea how you got there. And the only thing you should find is wilderness and abandoned towns. Oh yeah, there's also supposed to be thousands of crazed zombies trying to eat your brains. If you're lucky maybe you meet a couple of survivors and are forced to work together to survive an onslaught of zombies or not starve to death. And maybe you kill each other when it becomes more convenient to do so. Except with no real zombie threat and the risk of starvation or dehydration so low, it's basically just walking around an abandoned countryside until you encounter another player and try to kill each other.
DemonGroover 8836 Posted November 5, 2014 You make a good point (you didn't have to post so aggressively though).Perhaps at some stage the devs will want to test out servers with high pop in a particular zone. Maybe once the player and zombie counts are increased.
svisketyggeren 662 Posted November 5, 2014 (edited) Look at my post count, you think im some sort of blotto with no brain?lolz U want to "test" the game so badly, or is that u only wanna meet up with ur friends easier? If its the latter then there is really no point in ur post...cos the map will be expanded, not shrunk. Ofc u could with ur amazing post count, maybe come up with some ideas as to how we easier could meet up with friends...that dosent involve shrinking the map hehe Edited November 5, 2014 by svisketyggeren

meat pie 632 Posted November 5, 2014 I find it easy to test with not many people around. If they had a small map loot would be picked over and I would not be able to test guns and things.

insaniac.94 20 Posted November 5, 2014 Gopsy does not think this is good idea. This alpha is meant for testing actual game so what would point be of reducing size of alpha if game is going to be this size already?
hombrecz 832 Posted November 5, 2014 Ok So what is there to survive against currently? If you cannot survive in this game right now you may need to look into your hobby choice and reconsider. Seriously. Man game is currently FAR from being finished as you surely are well aware yourself right? So why should they butcher the map size? They need to test the game as a whole, how it works, not make it into some demented COD arena with Nuke Town size map. If you crave death match, then try to stick to Berezino, Cherno or Elektro. I believe you will find people there most of the time.
