Lethaltyrant 3 Posted October 9, 2014 Every time i play and get well geared, i get food, ammo, weapons, and clothes. My game ends with my screen going black and saying my leg is broken. I am guessing i am falling through the floor. This is a real buzz kill I get you will die but to the game messing up sucks. Is there a way to avoid this other than not going above ground level. Or is there a more stable server then others, can i do something to help on my end of the connection. Anything at all I enjoy playing but it makes me not want to play when that happens.

A habit most gamers form is to ignore a 0.5-1.5m drop from one level to another (because in most FPS games that's below the "fall damage" threshold"), which results in broken legs/death in DayZ. I think last time it happen to me i was standing still. and k3malb3y I understand it is an alpha (which its been alpha for a long time) I know bugs exist I am just trying to find a way to avoid this happening if i can. Lethaltyrant 3 Posted October 9, 2014 Did you by any chance walked over some rocks? No this only happens when i go on to 2nd floor of building or higher. Ground level i am fine, its only buildings and I could be standing still when it happens.
Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted October 9, 2014 Beware of going upstairs in fire stations and aircraft control towers. There's a known issue that can happen there because of the unique type of stairs where once you go up randomly your leg may break and/or you may die (as if you had fallen). Those types of stairs exist in a few other random obscure places but those are the ones where it's most common. My guess is this is likely what you experienced, something like one of these.

Lethaltyrant 3 Posted October 9, 2014 Every? Every single time? 100%?Not a 100% of the time but it sure feels like it. Maybe 60%. Mainly when i am well equipped, after spending hours finding stuff the game is like nope!!!

Lethaltyrant 3 Posted October 9, 2014 I cant remember if i was crouched ill make sure to avoid that as well. I am going to try again tonight and hope for the best. Are certain servers better than others?
Killawife 599 Posted October 9, 2014 This happens to me too quite a lot. It mostly happens in prison buildings, fire stations and Air traffic control towers. It did however happen to me on the hospital roof the other day too. Mostly I don't die right away, just break my legs and get ruined pants. I usually try to prepare for it but its still a very stupid bug.

Tyrianrage 39 Posted October 9, 2014 I wish i could at least survive i die instantly but thinking about it all these building you mentioned i have died in. But they have such good loot. How do you prepare for it?It's linked to server desync, I stopped getting this problem when I started joining servers with only 50-60 ping. Not 100% guaranteed, but it worked for me

I also ALWAYS carry a splint or morphine since this started happening.
Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted October 10, 2014 I cant remember if i was crouched ill make sure to avoid that as well. I am going to try again tonight and hope for the best. Are certain servers better than others? It's not really a server thing, it's a "type of stairs" thing. The aircraft control towers and fire stations have them, they also exist in a few other places, such as some cranes, ship wrecks, forget where else I've seen them. They all have the same known bug and risk, as I understand it something about their steepness and the client + server desync gets confused and it thinks you've fallen or something and boom broken leg and or death. Hoping someone who knows more about this can chime in and give us the correct information. Perhaps accolyte knows...
yazar8 584 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) Join a low ping server. Don't rush stairs. To avoid desync, switch your weapon and put it back time to time. This happened 3 times in total for me , I have 180 hours of gameplay. Khanarac 252 Posted October 10, 2014 I hear you, I just glitched through a balconyrailing and died, just by raising my weapon.
Judopunch 523 Posted October 12, 2014 Firestations and sometimes police stations are especially bad about this. If you have high amounts of lag it makes the problem worse. I would avoid the types of buildings that kill you when you have your gear until the navmesh gets tightened up. It is a known bug and I have had it before, when I have things i go slower in those types of buildings and avoid them if the server is laggy.
Mookie (original) 799 Posted October 13, 2014 Absolutely right Judo. I just don't go upstairs anymore. And it's not just the stairs - it can happen when you're walking or standing, or crouching on the floor. ATC tower, red roof barns, jail building and factory have all killed me in this way. The only building I'm reasonably confident in is the generic office building. Certainly seems like either navmesh, or desync, or both, but until I hear something's been done about it, I'm a ground floor guy only.
Killawife 599 Posted October 13, 2014 I died by walking on a ladder in the construction site. So add that to the list.
BeefBacon 1185 Posted October 13, 2014 Never ever had this happen to me. I walk when I go upstairs, so maybe that helps. It's out of habit since I've run off of roofs and that when running, so I walk to avoid that - even if the stairs are indoors.
dirrly 70 Posted October 13, 2014 Never ever had this happen to me. I walk when I go upstairs, so maybe that helps. Sorry, but no. It doesn't happen often, but it happens... also during walking, not running. But happened to me only at the fire station stairs, but already multiple times. And didn't kill me... 3x broken leg, 1x time pants, jacket, boots ruined with no reason. ;-)
