Is This A Mechanic Or A Bug? Bone Condition Death...

Recommended Posts

Just work in progress sqf/fsm taken out of context. Nothing is final nor finished at this phase.

SQF is the scripting language the game uses. SQF is depreciated and used for prototyping. Designers get the script functions working as it is much easier to play around with a script (no need to recompile etc) then they are handed off to the programming team for engine development.

FSM = Finite State Machine. Basically a model of states and transitions between them.

If you play with a clan/friends (or even by yourself) and are well geared but have been through a lot of battles you may as well drop all your gear straight after a server restart then suicide and race back to collect it.

Even if that was part of the game.....avoiding getting injured to often will make you live longer, not that different from real life.. i have some very nasty injuries from when i was younger, and even that they are heal now.. is still feel them when is cold, or when i do specific things.

This is interesting. I've had my char a good while now. 7 Hits to the chest with a pipe wrench did him in... That's really not a lot of tolerance.

what ?? are you saying that 7 hits to the chest with a pipe wrench shouldn't kill you ?? i hope not, because i could easily shatter your rib cage driving your ribs into your lungs causing you to die quite horribly with a pipe wrench the size of the one in game(and thats counting the first couple strikes you would defend with your arms and having them shattered.

Damn seriously the game as it stands is very forgiving of injuries and super easy to heal , but then it is a game i dont expect it to make it take months to recover from broken legs etc or everyone would just suicide after the first inury ..

Why would it have anything to do with bones.

It just seems to me that every time you take damage your overall health "bar" or blood count is lowered. So when you heal back to full health you start off lower than a fresh spawn because the fresh spawn would have never gotten any injuries.

I don't know but what you just said didn't make any sense to me - Watch the video again?

If you knew anything you would know agathor has tested this and the blood and health levels stay the same, that is why he is calling this the bone status as it can not be classed as one of the others because they do not change, please watch the video first before commenting.

I think this is supposed to regenerate. Maybe its broken maybe its incomplete. The medical system needs some work anyways.

Punishing people for surviving longer - which this is not because you need to be hit, meaning you actually get punished for being hit more often - would be a stupid concept. Also balancing high/low gear is not done via such things but by the effort involved.

I have an idea, implement milk to the game, add some cows, boil milk, drink it and start fixing your bones, haha!

We need  a Dev to clear this up, apparently there is a feature like this in the game and there is no way to recover your bone status.

Very nice work indeed, these results are sort of depressing for a long term surviver, endure for long period of time and eventually you may die due to the spine breaking, this will change how i play - will not mess around with zombies - shoot on site instead of attempting mele.  And no... i dont think this type of system should be in place, grizzled vets that survive for long periods of time should be rewarded, not punished, this will make us hermits even more freaked out and take less chances.

Thanks for the info and keep up the good work!

In a ROW, I'll totally agree with you. In that case it should be two. Not once you've healed back fully, to the games standards. Not even to include military equipment and gear. Is there a difference then? You could hit me with a pipe wrench well over 7 times in my vest in a row and I'd be hurting, maybe some cracked ribs, MAYBE, but I'd certainly be alive. Besides, your argument is based only on a pipe wrench. Fists? Baton? What's the threshold there? Most bones heal back stronger than ever in real life. My problem is the threshold IS low and it NEVER regenerates. Which is exactly why it's a work in progress. 1,860 posts. Very respectable, but don't try to call me out on my opinion when you're only thinking with one track. So relax. Critiques are what make the game better.

I'll need to test this myself to make sure it's not full of crap. Could explain why I get different results in live ballistics tests.

when you break a bone and it heals, because of the way the body's healling process works, the affected area of bone actually becomes stronger not weaker, for example I broke my arm as a kid, the bone on my left arm (the one I broke) is noticably thicker in the area of the healed fracture when compared to the same area of my right arm.

If anything in dayz, if you sustain a fracture and successfully treat and heal it you should get bonus bone points for that part of the body, allowing you to sustain extra damage there in future.

It's natures way.

Well after reading the OP letter I got so depressed I suicided my char last night by loggin into a 40 man server - running from NWA to the westernmost firestation in Elektro I climbed the tower with my mind set on jumping from the rooftop and so I noticed a few bambis running around confused.

Then I was just about to jump and someone nicked me in the head from afar.

At least the thought of my AKM + 3 drums and around 100 extra rounds + 3 grenades and 1 flashbanger + my first and only heli chrash loot (cr527feeder m4 mags sight for FNX) and 2xtopbottomGorka and fireset and of course pickaxe and hatchet etc. raining down on these poor newborns was quite intriguing. Note this gear was collected from loggin on low populated serves and exploring.

Anyway untill Bone Conditoning Death is changed to something more feasible I will end my exploring of the boundaries of Chernarus and concentrate on straight forward hardboiled melee combat taking all chances for the laugh of it so 40+ servers here I come.

This comes from a long time fan of the mod and untill now a quite satisfied customer of the SA.

Definitely seems like a WIP part of the health and medical system. I wouldn't like for it to stay as it is, however the idea that your injuries kind of stay with you and mold throughout your life is kind of interesting. Imagine how surviving plenty of gunshots and fractures would affect you in a survival situation. With the procedural textures becoming a possibility in the new renderer scars and such might be kinda cool. Personally I think it'd be cool if it created animation changes (after a few leg fractures your gait is a little jacked up or something) but that's kind of a pipe dream methinks.

Oh

My

God .

Agathor has shed light on our ignorant dispositions may we thank him with a thousand deaths cAused by pvp because were so afraid of being spine-breaking-one-shotted by zombies ! No come on you guys in 800 hours of play I've only experienced a one "one hit kill" by a zombie and that character wasn't even alive for Long .. Just listen to all the posts in this thread of bone boys and smash stating that it's still a work in progress and unless you've been affected by this more than 5 times I wouldn't worry .. Live long playAs and don't let the man and his "informational" videos scare you as ALL Of these mechanics will change soon enough making most of these videos an irrelevant blast from the past :0 !rocklobster.

I did the same. Dropped all my gear on a persistent server. Got back about 36 hours later and my backpack was still there. My akm, vest, trousers etc had all disappeared though.

I'd love if there was a message about spine injuries and some treatment similar to broken arms etc

Howdy,

are we allowed to paste here DayZ SA decompiled source code bits,
to validate/disregard Wobo's findings, in a light of complete silence from DayZ programmers, and general issue importance?

Brian's twit about WIP doesn't count, for obvious reason.

(Could post my credentials, if needed.)

No, I don't think it's fair, however I don't think it should be removed, their should just be a way to help fight this deterioration.

One method could be that you slowly regenerate spinal bone value if you are at full blood and full health. That way it would suddenly become turned around again: the longer you survive, the more spinal bone value you have (until you reach max of course).

It's so very unlikely that this is meant as a punishment. I marvel sometimes at people's willingness to put on the mantle of a victim. As Hicks pointed out (and what was always more likely) it's just an unfinished mechanic in process.

I think its interesting you really got 55-/+ hits from a zed and your a dead man regardless of time span between hits. I reckon i'm already on 20+. Certainly no more stand up fights with zeds anymore.

And what about all the gates and doors that send you flying when you open them? they affecting this hidden stat too?
