Using the wallet to identify players/hackers

Recommended Posts

dayz-0-49-leaked-wallet-model1.jpg

I am not sure what the Dev's intentions for the wallet is yet, But I think it should be spawned on a player everytime they start a new game. Make it so that it doesn't use any item slots, it can't be dropped & it cant be stolen by other players.... BUT it can be inspected, revealing the identity of the player. This can serve 2 purposes

1. We all have an actual identity in game, so that you don't have to check someones pulse to find out their name, you can check their id instead which would seem more realistic.

2. Some players & hackers change their names whenever they want in the menu, mainly if they want to shake off a bad reputation, but I think it should be compulsary that all ID's display your unique Steam name or Game user id that is locked into your purchase of Dayz. This way, if you encounter and kill a hacker & have the fraps footage to back it up, you can then report the player to the dev team so he can get a global ban for it, but only in these instances where you have concrete proof, that you caught him hacking or with hacked gear, would make it much easier to identify players, even if they change their dayz name it won't help them.

I think you can press F12 to take a steam screenshot & it would be perfect if when you inspect the ID with gamer details in the same shot as the hacked mags so it would be an open shut case of guilt

I don't like the idea of it showing a UID.  That's a bit too big-brother for me.  I personally don't want anyone to know my steam name because that opens doors for harassment.

but the current system makes it impossible to identify players who hack, having an actual way to report them officially would be a big benefit, Saying you don't agree with big brother watching over you, tells me you have something to hide. Don't know if you are aware or not, but if you jump into a dayz game with other players in, you can actually go into steam and see who you recently played with, all those people in that server will show up in your steam "recently played with" list, if one of those players is a hacker, wouldn't it be nice to know WHICH one from seeing his ID?

I think the OP is a great idea - anything to reduce/eradicate hackers.  The comment on not wanting others to know your steam ID is nonsense too as if you get shit from someone you can just block/report them.  The social element of online multiplayer gaming is huge and this could also help curb douchbags been douchebags for the sake of it and may help promote a more sociable game.

I'm all about helping catch kids who cheat, but singling them out isn't going to do much.  It's just going to take time to refine the anti-cheat measures.  There's nothing we can do but be patient.  The addition of features and engine tweaks are going to make the game more vulnerable until it's finally in the state they need it.  Catching cheaters NOW isn't going to do much when there's new holes in security every update.

Of course it does. By catching people that are currently cheating, we can punish them, which in turn puts people off the idea of cheating in the first place.

1. Game is released

2. People develop cheats

3. Developers plug holes and improve anticheat detection

4. People develop new undetected cheats

5. Developers plug holes and improve anticheat detection

6. Return to 4

That's pretty much the circle of life in all games. There will always be cheaters and there will always be undetected cheats. The developers just need to stay on top of catching them.

but at the moment there is very little chance of reporting someone.

"uh, I got attacked by a hacker, i fired 20 rounds and he glitched out the way, I don't know his username but he played on a server by gamer deluxe.co.uk. Can you ban him please?"

Like I said, you can see who was in a server with you by checking your recently played with list in steam, not only can you have a better chance of reporting hackers and glitchers, but you can also befriend and add steam players to your friends list if you meet someone you end up getting on with.

The only hard hackers to catch out are the ones that glitch out the way when you shoot them, because you wont get close enough to check their name or id, but there seems to be more than enough hackers that die with duped gear and hacked mags. "oh hello steam name Demitry1985 ."

1. Game is released

Are you talking about the final release? Or the alpha state we're in now?   I'm not trying to disparage the idea of stopping cheaters, I'm just saying it's not an immediate process that's going to be fixed by simply knowing who someone is and taking a picture of their Steam ID.  How can you know which cheats they were using? Where did they get them?

by putting them on a battle eye watch list or something, I'm not sure how it works, but if they haven't done anything wrong, then nothing will get detected. If its been reported that they are glitching or in possession of scripted mags, then boom Global ban next time they connect

Anything beyond internal testing. Once a game is released to the public it's a pretty safe bet to assume that someone, somewhere has developed an undetected cheat for it. Whether they're released to the public or kept within the super-secret inner-circle of cheaters to keep them undetected is another story though.

In answer to your other questions - you can't. In fact I'd wager that a lot of so called cheaters are wrongly accused legitimate players. I've been accused of cheating in other games countless times and I can assure you that I've never cheater. I was merely replying to your statement "Catching cheaters NOW isn't going to do much when there's new holes in every security update." because I don't agree with it.

You can't ban for glitching or possessing hacker-spawned items as both, however unlikely, can be done unintentionally.

We can only ban for undeniable evidence sch as anticheat detection or screenshots/video showing ESP cheats.

I wonder if the wallet will have a little ID card like a license with your picture on it. That'd be neat.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Your name in DayZ is separate from your Steam name. You can change it at the main menu.

Op wants the steam name to be displayed, not the in game name (in case they are different).

But you can change steam name too.

Quick Question, how do you intend on obtaining the hacker's wallet? :l

by inspecting it like you can with any item in game, you dont have to take an item to do that

I don't know how to get rid of all hackers, but I do know how to get rid of most hackers.

Just change the game into two separate clients; one for Russia, and one for everywhere else.

But it's a hacker. You can't inspect an item that you can't get to.

Nice Idea Not Sure if So Open and Shut though When you Find Hacked Ammo Sometimes a Newbie Might Have Picked up off a Dead Player or Dropped Gear

Or a Hacker Could Just Plant then Screen Cap To Report and Troll Others

Cant Realy Be Solved Unless Can Be Certain of the Source,Sadly

And I Like IDea for Identification tho :D

... As Long as when they Respawn Wallet Doesnt Say "Unknown Entity" Hate Not Knowing Who Just tried to murder Me

yesterday on the same server i saw BE kicking 2 cheaters

On day number 2 from the release of 0.49 my first death was from an hacker that was flying above my head and teleporting.

The current system do not work

I get killed on an alpha game? So please, till will be finished i want the steam name of who killed me, then i'm free to report whatever i want.

I'm 100% sure that once the Steam name is displayed and we are sure that it was an hacker, we can also check out his inventory on steam and take a look if he is one of those guys that have hundreds of same items that can be won only over years.

So then they cheat to get them, sell them and purchase games, And if they get banned from a game they PURCHASE another copy of it and give it as a GIFT to another fake account.

Do you know how many of them made this with DOTA 2? By opening "Chests" items with hacked keys and then selling the items inside for free! They got money by cheating, and so then they purchase games over and over and over.

That's so easy!

Once those guys can be spot then would be awesome to delete out their account!

...And it's so sad that Steam does not check out these guys....
